The food is exceptionally good, service is superb and very reasonable prices
Almost like being a Bistrot, the chef clearly has a handle on these dishes. It was a lovely meal.
Gabi does a great job with safe restaurant service during the pandemic. They have outside seating that, with the wide sidewalk, is set back from the street. Broad Street at this point is 6 lanes wide with no street parking, though, so in the evening it is very noisy with speeding cars and periodic ATVs. I wouldn't recommend eating outside. Counterintuitively, it might be quieter during the day with a greater volume making traffic move slower.
Inside the tables are widely spaced and the restaurant is big so there is plenty of room. There were about a half-dozen couples eating inside and the restaurant could have held more. The staff is all masked and some also had face shields. They are taking health safety very seriously. Service was very attentive.
The menu is pared down a little and the prices are increased a little, I assume both as a result of the pandemic. Practical changes--they have to make enough money to stay in business. There still are a good number of menu choices: 6 appetizers, 5 entrees, plus salads/sandwiches. On Wednesdays they have also have a pre fixe menu with a couple choices of appetizers and entrees from the Bistro La Minette for those missing it.
On to what we ate. We had the Seafood Escabeche (a cooked seafood medley, served cold) and Forest Tartine (intensely flavored roasted mushrooms and leeks on grilled bread, topped with a fried egg, and served on a bed of arugula). The tartine alone would have been enough for a lunch. Both appetizers were excellent and the serving size was generous.
For entrees we had the Coq Au Vin and Duck Leg Confit. The Coq Au Vin was in an intensely flavored sauce that stood up to a glass of Syrah. It was excellent and, again, a generous portion. The Duck Leg Confit was very good and the meat was very tender as one would expect. However, it was the one dish that we didn't describe with superlatives.
First and foremost, Christopher was an excellent server. He was very courteous, respectful, and articulate. Quiet night (covid?), but a very pleasant atmosphere. We were seated in the back, it was nice and warm, and given plenty of 'social distance' from other diners.
We had excellent appetizers (french cheese plate & Brussell sprouts), drinks, a wonderful steak, and incredible scallops. The portions were satisfying, not overwhelming, and we walked out discussing the next time we will be coming back to Gabi!
Excellent food, and the waitress was very accommodating. Service was impeccable. All in all, a very pleasant experience. I rated noise level as low, because with widely spaced tables and relatively few customers due to COVID, there was little noise generated. Hard to compare to normal times. The ambience seemed less good than in normal times, again because in this big space with high ceilings (good in terms of pandemic safety), it lacked something of a warm and comfortable atmosphere. Let's hope this will end sometime soon!
We were the only diners in the restaurant, after a couple across the dining room finished and left. The restaurant recently re-oped to indoor dining, and it was with great attentiveness that we were served. The food is excellent here -- classic French bistro fare that rivals Paris. I had the classic steak frites and my fiance had coq au vin -- both just pure deliciousness. We love this place.
We had to go one more time before it gets too cold to eat outside.
> the special appetizer was mussels in cream sauce on a baguette - perfect!
> the duck confit was great as always (it's my partner's favorite dish)
> the special trout stuffed with lemon was really tasty but a bit too small for me
Service: first class, attentive but not hovering.
Bar: very small wine list but enough choices to satisfy most requirements.
The food was really great! Sitting outside next to Broad street it was a little loud, but the food and service were great
Amazing experience from start to finish. Our server, Felicia, was professional, friendly and extremely helpful in helping us navigate the experience. We sat outside on Broad Street and enjoyed the ambience of the city. The food was classic French bistrot and the wine choices were terrific. We will definitely return. Hopefully, the restaurant can get some heat lamps so that people can die and safely outside as the weather becomes cold.
Wonderful food and great service. Would highly recommend. Peach kir was delicious
The meal was excellent; the service was impeccable. The waiters were very pleasant and accommodating. I was sorry to see so few people in the restaurant. I know people are concerned about covid, but the restaurant has taken many precautions and the tables are very widely spaced. More importantly, with very high ceilings, the volume of space (not of sound!) allows for more rapid and effective dispersion of viral particles. Infection depends on the viral load a person gets, and in a space like Gabi's the potential is much less than in a smaller volume space.
We will certainly be back.
Server Christopher was attentive, but not prominent, helpful and extremely friendly. The food was delicious, even on the limited menu, and the atmosphere (we dined indoors) was chic...kind of Art Deco. Homemade sorbet was incroyable.
Ate outside on broad street and was very loud and distracting which I understand isn’t necessarily the heir faults but it took away the peaceful dinner. A homeless man walked right up to multiple tables and it took staff a few mins to come out and do something. The food was decent but overpriced.
What a wonderful dining experience. We felt special because we were so well taken care of by Chef Kenny and his team. From safety (Covid precautions) to the drinks, the food and service, everything was top notch and high-class!
We couldn’t give a higher recommendation to Gabi! Just a special experience from start to finish! Excellent value for the city as well!
Happy hour - great $3 cocktails!
We went for the Wednesday Bistro La Minette special. It was a wonderful evening - the cocktails were excellent, the service was very attentive, the food was excellent. The parking, right next door, was very easy and inexpensive. We will be back for more of Bistro La Minette's wonderful food at Gabi. So glad to hace them open again for indoor dining.
Second time to Gabi since outdoor dining was permitted.
Food, simple wine list, service and street ambience make a great evening. Excellent in every respect except for one factor outside their control--street noise from motorcycles & a few hot rodders.
This is my favorite neighborhood restaurant. The staff is amazing and the food never disappoints.
I feel well taken care of whether I’m picking up food to go, dining alone, having happy hour with my girlfriends, or on a date.
I love it
Food was excellent, as it had been on my one prior visit - very creative dishes, with unusual combination of ingredients and sauces - would definitely go back or recommend it!
The food, service and ambiance was New Jersey diner quality. The escargot was the only dish my friends and I enjoyed. Everything else was disappointing.
Great food courteous service
I would recommend Gabby. This was my second time there the first one was two days before the dreaded lockdown. It's a great find a French bistro where the food is very good I think many restaurants because of the space limitations has had to reduce their staff and as a result the menu is slightly smaller than what appears on the website but the choices are good .
The friends was with me is a mashed potatoes aficionado and said it was the best mashed potatoes he's ever had in his life. I love French food and there are not many places in the city that has it.
Still miss bistro laMinate, but found Gabi to very much like it :-):-)"Excellent food service, and ambiance.
The food, space and service was excellent. Best steak frites I've ever had. Philly's best fries, by far! And a nice cheese board. Very reasonable wines.
Food was very good, didn’t take too long to come out. Nice location, and service was great
Server definitely stole the show. Overall the restaurant is good but just hit missing out on a home run. It could be because of COVID and having to shorten the minute. I will be interested to see how things are after COVID
Very nice waitstaff. Enjoyed our meal.
Can’t wait to come back, seeing the restaurant and staff when they are at full capacity will be the true test (only reason why I didn’t give 5 stars)
Restaurant week offerings were somewhat limiting but the execution was spot on (something that is often iffy during restaurant week). Thanks Chef!!
It was restaurant week during my visit to Gabi. So there was only the Restaurant week menu. Appetizer we order French onion, which was good and cheesy. The pork pate was two different kind of pate which were Ok individual but if you combine the two it tasted better. Entree we order Lemon Scallops with side of Caramelized potatoes and Pork Cassoulet side of Ratatouille. The lemon Scallops were ok not excited. Caramelize potatoes were kind like potatoes boiled with some herbs which kind of missed the seasoning. Pork cassoulet was very unseasoned dish, need some salt and tomatoe paste. The Ratatouille was good.
For dessert we got creme bruleee and summer parfait. Creme bruleee was done very well, not to sweet, just the right amount of creamy texture. Summer parfait was also done very well. Perfect balance of sweet and fruit.
Delicious food and very friendly staff! Would definitely recommend!
Went for restaurant week, amazing food and selection. Kind of upsetting that they ran out of some food and drinks at a point but it is what it is. would definitely recommend.
Very knowledgeable, friendly and efficient staff. Food was excellent.
I always get the burger. It’s one of the best in the city
Gabi was a perfect choice for our date night dinner. We got the escargot, scallops, and burger, which were all super flavorful without being too heavy or overpowering. The burger had a fried egg which I thought was unusual for dinner but it was nevertheless amazing, with that perfect balance of sweet, salty, and umami. It’s in my top 5 burgers of all time! The scallops were a great dish as well, with the chopped up vegetables balancing out the scallops in saltiness and texture. Highly recommend Gabi to anyone looking for a memorable, solid French dinner experience without breaking the bank.
Wonderful every time! Nothing that we requested was too much trouble! For Food, we split a house salad which they prepared on 2 plates which was a hearty portion. Both of us ordered the Duck Leg with orange sauce, one with mashed and the other with ragatoulle—both great choices! The caramel ice cream for dessert was a full 12 ounces and added a tasty ending to our meal.
My boyfriend and I went for dinner to celebrate his work accomplishments. Overall an amazing restaurant! I absolutely would’ve given 5-stars if we’d had gone when there was indoor dining, the restaurant looked so beautiful and romantic inside! Unfortunately, being on Broad in the summer comes with the obnoxious motorcycle brigades. The food was phenomenal and our server was so attentive and friendly, but it was difficult to have a conversation with 5-10 bikes zooming by every few minutes. We will definitely be back once COVID settles down and we can enjoy our meal inside.
It was amazing! We went for their happy hour. Service was amazing and their outdoor dining is beautiful.
The waiting staff were charming and made my date and I laugh. It began to drizzle halfway through our meal, and the staff was quick to provide us an umbrella and tend to our needs. Food came quickly and was presented beautifully. The bread served + pickles and assorted vegetables were the perfect touch. The value you get here is incredible. Good tasting, good looking food for under $20 a person. Excellent date night. Due to COVID, we could only eat outdoors. I would wait for indoor seating before coming back, as Broad Street has been noisy due to dirt bike riders.
Great experience! It's a nice blend of laid back and good service, especially during these pandemic times. The food is good, even if my steak was overcooked (still amazing though). Nice generous pours for drinks. Just a note that because of location (right on Broad), it can get loud with traffic. It didn't bother me, but may for others.
Very great service, delicious drinks and food!! Thank you!
