Quality ingredients, tasty preparation, and innovative beverages!!
Last minute decision based on recommendation and was perfect atmosphere. The roasted cauliflower and meatballs as appetizers were great.
My friend and I went to G expecting a similar experience as other Mike Isabella restaurants. However, the restaurant is better suited as a lunch spot to have a casual sit-in meal versus a social dinner. I had the spaghetti and meatballs which were very average.
Good place for a quick bite to eat, not the best place to go for dinner, however
Great and unique food/flavors. Personable service and good portions. Great wine list of relative unknowns but solid taste and price-points. Very cool vibe, safe neighborhood, extremely clean! Kudos on your success Mike from before Top Chef and to date! Best wishes!
Went there with friends after Saturday happy hour, so got there at 8:30. Not to busy and go seated right away. Our service was quick and efficient. We ordered a few appetizers that came quickly and were great (broccolini with garlic and cauliflower with romanescu). Entrees were also really good: cavatelli with bolognese and ravioli with short ribs.
Excellent selection of beers (both Peroni and Moretti), wines, cocktails etc.
Highly recommend as a neighborhood gem!
The burger was great. However, the carbonara pasta was overcooked and too obviously reheated. Too salty also. Not horribly so, but enough so that while in don't regret visiting, I won't be coming back, or at least not for pasta.
We had the Sunday gravy dinner. It was delicious, abundant and nicely presented. Just sorry it took me so long to go try this. Our server was very personable and attentive.
Not worth the price in my opinion. Little above average Italian food.
Loved the menu and atmosphere.
The service allowed my husband and I to spend some time together just chatting.
Our team needed a good meal after a long day's work in Arlington. This was an excellent choice. Easy access off Metro Line, friendly staff, great wine, and tasty food, all re-energized the team. We had 4 individuals with varied food preference, and were all excited by the menu. We had no issues finding 4 apps, and 4 entrees to share across the table. Nothing went unfinished. The great wine selection made it easy find a couple of bottles we all enjoyed very much as well. The server, and front of house manager were friendly and engaging. Dessert was quite tasty and capped off an awesome meal that we were all talking about the next day.
The restaurant was smaller, but has a ambience and charm that provided the quiet location we were looking for to unwind. Would definitely recommend the restaurant, and look forward to the next visit to DC, and to G!
It was ok not like his other concepts
This turned out to be a great find. G specializes in sandwiches and Italian food and we decided upon the Italian food for a late Valentine's Day dinner. My date (wife) and I chose the same appetizer and main course, kale salad and lamb shoulder ravioli. The kale ceasar was fresh with delicious homemade dressing. The ravioli was succulent with a lamb ragu that was earthy and tasty. We both loved it. We enjoyed different desserts. I had the apple cinnamon cobbler and she had the chocolate mousse. The cobbler was light, crumbly and not too sweet. I would recommend this place to anyone looking for good Italian food in a relatively quiet place. It was nice to be able to talk without yelling above the music. Well done, G!
I didn’t think anyone could mess up pasta until I came to this place. Aside from the charcuterie, everything was overly salty. Great wine. Doubt I would give it another shot because there is so much more to try in the area.
The $35 restaurant week menu was copious and tasty. We had trouble finding the shrimp in the shrimp pasta.
food was good. however they should have alerted us of how much hot pepper was there in the food.
Good food and laidback ambiance.
Chef preset menu picks for 6 of us
Great Italian fare and good value for money. The cauliflower antipasti, Bianco pizza and ricotta cavatelli are recommended !
Delicious Brussels sprouts.
Nice serving sizes
We came in from the suburbs on a snowy Saturday night and I am glad we did. The valet parking was terrific so we got off to a great start. Once we arrived we were immediately seated at a cozy but comfortable table. The food was great--fabulous starters and great house made pastas. the wine list was very reasonably priced and our server Jamie was very welcoming and knowledgeable about the menu. The manager stopped by to top off our wine glasses and to tell us more about the restaurant. As a result, we'll be back soon for Sunday Gravy! Can't wait.
G by Mike Isabella is always a good experience. The chicken and couscous soup! The meatballs! Food is always consistently good...and the service is too!
Service was perfect. Meal was incredible. Parents still raving about every course! The tasting menu + wine pairing is the best bargain in DC!
Sorry to see the level of dining has changed. The food is still delicious but it doesn’t have a special occasion feel to it. But it’s still a great neighborhood place. The prix fix is still available but no where near the level it used to be.
One of my favorites. G is always great. Service is always great. The ingredients for a nice dining experience. Try the chicken and couscous soup. Broth has deep smokey lemony undertones. Have never had anything but great food at G. And the prices are reasonable enough to be a go to for any occasion.
I had antipasti and pasta and was satisfied; they were willing to make slight modifications for vegetarians.
We went to G by Mike Isabella for restaurant week. Although we were underimpressed with the outside of the building, the food, service and quality made up for any misgivings we might have had. We loved the food. I ordered the restaurant week menu while my husband ordered off the menu and neither one of us were disappointed. Portions were large enough to share especially my husband's Greek salad. A little off the beaten path, but worth of drive.
Terrific, authentic food that is well prepared and presented. The servers are attentive but unobtrusive. This is an excellent spot and a good value.
We went for restaurant week and the service was honestly terrible. We took our time with appetizers and the first course and the waiter kept trying to take our plates though there was clearly still food on them and half of the restaurant was empty. When the main course did come out it was clear that they had made our entrees when we first ordered because they were offensively cold. I was also given the wrong kind of wine. And for dessert my tiramisu was frozen and the cookies literally crumbled at our touch.
I've never so much as left a review on open table but I have to warn others not to come expecting an amazing restaurant week experience. Come for sandwiches at a small bar. Don't come for the ambiance or service.
Outstanding food, service, and casual ambiance. The menu offerings were unique, and covered a fairly wide spectrum. I do not recall any significant meat dishes but we were not looking for that and the seafood items looked enticing. I had the old fashioned spaghetti and it was wonderful. Others in our party had a variety of pasta, seafood, and salads, and all were quite happy with their choices. We're looking forward to returning at the first opportunity.
I love the place. Good food for a great price.
bad experience on restaurant week. A/C was broken. apps served for party of 4 same amount served for party of 2 in next table. 1st plate pasta+lamb was too spicy. 2nd plate was tasteless steak that looked like a kebob on a bed of corn (!!!). tiramisu and pound cake desserts were awful. did not taste like how they were supposed to taste. this place has gone down. it used to be very good.
The menu was very limited unless you were interested in appetizers. Maybe this should be a tapas type restaurant. The menu on line did not come close to the menu online. The table where they sat us near the front door was extremely dark. If it were not for the street lighting outside we wouldn't have been able to see. Parking was very difficult. Luckily there was valet at $15. Our server was fine. I'm going to guess this is a relatively new restaurant but at this time I cannot recommend going there.
Always excited to try another Top Chef Restaurant. Here in DC, so tried G by Mike Isabella. Nice little G Happy Hour at bar. Staff highly recommended the arancini which was wonderful on happy hour menu. The Giardino Bianco Pizzaccia was deep dish style with artichoke, mushrooms garlic and mozzarella! Everything was fantastic!
Mixed bag here. Dinner on a visit from Seattle, 3 of us. Food we had was mostly excellent (rocket salad, cauliflower, chicken parmesN sandwich and lamb gyro). However, daughter's kale salad was way overdressed - absolutely soggy - so while the salmon was delicious, the overall dish was disappointing. Service was okay - took a while for drinks to arrive. Beer and gin & tonic were both good, if a bit pricy for the non-brand g&t - but we were served the worst mojito we've ever had. Very loud, but our biggest complaint is that the restaurant was sweltering. Guests all around us were fanning themselves and talking about how hot the restaurant was - and we all did the same at our table. Overall - some seriously good food, but the noise, spotty drinks and service, and HOT restaurant means I would not recommend it.
Great service good food, nice time overall. Would definitely go back
Although there a lot of empty tables we had a good time and the food was good. Would recommend for casual dining.
The Sunday Gravy was delicious but the service was off. We were almost finished with first course before the wine was served and then 5 or 6 dishes were served at the same time, a bit overwhelming and not the best experience. We were overcharged on the bill by almost $100 worth of cocktails we did not have and desserts which were included in the meal. The waiter corrected the bill. I am a huge fan of Kapnos next door, G's service was not up to Mike Isabella's standards in his other fine restaurants.
I went for the Sampling menu and wine pairing and was pretty disappointed. I have gone to Mike Isabellas other restaurant for the sampling and wine pairing (Graffiato) and the experience was far superior -- considering we paid the same price ($$).
The server just plopped the food in front of us and scurried away without telling us anything about the dish, which is supposed to be part of the food sampling experience. The Meat from the meat and cheese starter was essentially deli meat. The pea tortellini was sour and unpleasant. The baked ziti was cheesy, but the pasta was destroyed into unrecognizable shrapnel. The Salmon had a nice flavor, but paired with an inappropriate wine. The dessert was a blondie (?!) or tiramisu pudding cup... I would not recommend wasting your money here. If the meal was 1/3 the price, then I still would not go back.
The team at G really needs to step it up.
