This was my second visit to the restaurant and it was a fabulous as the first visit. The ambiance of the sun room was fabulous. The food was cooked and seasoned to perfection. This is my new favorite restaurant!
Those 5 stars did not come without hard work! The attention to detail and level of excellence of every aspect of this establishment is superb! This is definitely one of our new spots!
Brought my wife here for Mother’s Day and a first time dining experience. The ambiance was amazing and very intimate but not necessarily in a romantic way. The staff was very personable and attentive. The food was delicious and so were the drinks! I definitely recommend this restaurant regardless of the occasion.
Although the Chef and the hostess had the best of intentions, our recent experience attending what was supposed to be the Sunday Brunch was extremely disappointing. First we had to wait an hour for service! We stayed at the table for 1 hour with just water. I had brought guests with the intention to be a great sendoff. We arrived at 1:36 which was later than our 1:15 pm. reservations but the restaurant only had a few guests. Each order of tea took at east 15 minutes and it was served without sugar, already mixed. The female waitress seemed afraid to talk and would hear our orders and leave, never to return until we stopped her. Twice I had to go to the kitchen and my guest one time to figure out what was going on. Note the sisters did offer a discount for the meal stating that the kitchen was closing down when we arrived. Closing time was 3:00 and if that were the case, they should have said so, we would have gone off and be willing to try it another time. It was a wonderful location and ambiance but horrible service and well below par food. The omelet was really just scrambled eggs. They ran out of biscuits (didn't tell us) and just brought us white bread!!Really for Brunch. No buffet because they did not have enough reservations. Shouldn't you have just said this at the beginning so we could exercise our options? The shrimp and grits were passable but our guests did not enjoy their meals. They did not get all items they ordered. We had delayed eating all day for this meal and instead got something less than a diner would offer. They did tell us they were recently from Italy and started this business in March. Our suggestion is to emphasize 3 things...improve the food, improve the menu, and certainly at least train the new female waitress to attend to her customers and display some personality. In other words customer service!!
The food was very good. It’s one of the best patios Decyde out on a eat dinner in the city. You should give it a try. I had the lamb and it was fabulous.
My second time visiting G.Alston’s. Always pleasantly surprised.
Waiter was amazingly incompetent as he was ignorant of the menu without his I-pad. To be the “fine dining” restaurant that you aspire to be, the wait staff needs to know the menu inside & out. Front of house staff seemed to lack even the most basic training, as the bartender lacked the knowledge of how to make a classic cocktail as a Manhattan. Where were the cherries?
Food was poorly cooked and portions did not justify the price point. Needless to say, I won’t be returning.
Thought there would be a menu as posted on the restaurant’s website but it was actually a buffet with a set price only. The food was good and so were the sangrias! The service was fairly slow considering it was only for drinks and to collect empty plates.

I wanted to give this restaurant an "A", but I could not. The restaurant states that it is fine dining, false advertisement. The Sunday Brunch, the presentation was nice, but the food was horrible. I LOVE, LOVE chicken, I was so disappointed the chicken was not well cooked, I could the blood and the meat was pink. I complained to my waiter about the dissatisfaction. I thought the chef or the owner would have apologized, again disappointed. I did not have an outstanding experience. Thanks
I was excited when I saw the Grand Opening event posted on Facebook. I immediately clicked "going." A friend saw my status, contacted me and we decided G. Alston would be a great place to dine and catch up.
The week before the date of our reservation was Black Restaurant Week - of which G. Alston was a participant. I purposely didn't patronize G. Alston that week because I wanted the full experience of the Grand Opening. I visited their online menu and decided I would have salmon for dinner and pecan pie for desert. Let's go!!!!!
Placing my actual order at the restaurant proved trying because they were still using their limited menu from Black Restaurant Week, which had neither salmon nor pecan pie. I ended up with baked chicken and white cake. If I remove my disappointment and give an honest assessment - the meal was good. Chicken was moist, potatoes were great and the green beans were seasoned perfectly!!!
There were also issues with billing, but it took only a little while to rectify.
For our troubles, the GM gave me and my guest 30% coupons for our next visit. I will definitely give them another try and (hopefully) get a chance to update this review to show that they got the "kinks" out.
#SOMUCHTOLOVE This was my second visit in a week's time. I was disappointed the full menu was not available because I brought out of town guests. I got the BoHo burger on both occassions, asked for med both times, it was well both times. Fortunately, its such a good flavor profile..and its juicy...I got over it. My guests said their entrees were were good (chicken) I think my burger sat waiting for their plates. Cocktails taste good, not enough alcohol. I live in the area and look forward to this being my SPOT but I'm going to let them get more practice to perfect the dining experience with service, location, ambience, flavors, recipe execution and getting it to the table as the Chef intended.
Attended for Memphis Black Restaurant Week on the fixed price menu. Was worth $25 a person for the 3 course dinner meal. They also offered thier menu which has unusual dishes which I look for.
There is a small room with a cozy fireplace I would return to dine in..we were in the largest room of 3.
I dined her in a Friday evening as a part of MBRW. It was delicious. The service was wonderful. The atmosphere is quite nice. I'd definitely recommend it.
In an attempt to make the best food choice, we did a quick survey of our neighboring tables. Everyone was highly satisfied with their meal choice. It did not help in the decision making. Lol That trend continued at my table as well. Highly satisfied!
Everyone in our party enjoyed their selection form the menu. The portion sizes were more than ample because most of the party requested containers to take their uneaten portions. The restaurant’s ambiance will definitely have us coming back.

Had reservations for Valentine's Day through open table but no where was it mentioned that they are running $75 4 course menu of only steaks n fish . I don't eat both. Plus why if I am warranted to spend $150 I should be informed.
Bad bad service !!
Arrived for 7:15 reservations seated immediately. It took about 10 minutes before our waiter comes to the table. He takes our order returns with water....8:20 were still waiting for our food. Told the manager we’d bring waiting an hour and his response was “ would you like to cancel your order?” Not let me check on your order or even offer an appetizer while we waited. We left with no intentions on going back.
Rolls not delivered until requested, wine menu limited, steak ordered rare was cold, Brussels sprouts with bacon almost inedible, tables for two very small, parking horrendous
I am beyond disappointed. Selected G Alston for my birthday dinner after reading an article in Memphis magazine. The evening got off to a terrible start when I order sparkling wine and what we were served had been open for days as it was completely flat. I ordered the Sous Vide Lamb with rosemary and lavender for my entrée. I was served grilled lamb with no flavor. The chops were incredibly thin and served atop a massive pile of overcooked risotto. My wife's salmon was cooked well but lacked any seasoning. The one bright spot to the evening is that since the restaurant has a very limited wine list they allow you to bring your own wine for a very reasonable $12 corkage fee so at least I did enjoy a good bottle of burgundy.
The food was OK. We eat out 2 to 3 times a week. Thought the value was not there. 2 entree's, no appetizer, no salad, 2 drinks, 85.00. To advertise as fine dinning you would think the wait staff would pick up empty plates and glasses. Hope this place makes it, but they have to get their act together.
Will definitely be going back for brunch. The fried mac n cheese and shrimp something (it was fried to) was awesome. I don't eat fried food but I had to taste them. They were simply delicious.
We enjoyed the food and friendly service. The gumbo was excellent, with complex flavor but without resorting to being too spicy. The entrees were also very good, and the servings were generous. We'll be back.
Arrived at 9:55a for a 10a brunch reservation. Food arrived at 10:35.

I would not return or recommend. The pictures of the food and interior do not accurately reflect the reality. The presentation of the food could not be more misleading.
Too many brunch choices in the Memphis area to waste time and money on such a over priced FAUX fine dining experience. Don’t waste your time or money.

After reading the reviews for G Alston, I was really excited about sharing a new, excellent dining experience with friends. We miss Cafe Fontana but looked forward to this cuisine. The Mac n Cheese hush puppies were outstanding. The rest of the meal - just average. We had to send the waiter back 3x to get knives for 2 filets and lamb. He was non-attentive and left dirty dishes on the table. We had to ask to have them removed. The catfish was a small piece of meat but tasty - lamb was small too. The bread pudding was chilled and avg (even though we asked to have it heated) and the cobbler was mainly crust - very little blueberries and peaches. The filet was good but not the "cuts like butter" description - even though it did have a partially melted butter on top. I would like to try this restaurant again because I am hoping I caught the service and food on an off night but it will be a while. The ambiance was really nice and the host was gracious. I believe the wine menu will increase in time because of the recent license to sell alcohol.
Great atmosphere! Service was excellent. Expect a wait time for food to be cooked to to order and perfection. The attentive service and delicious bread makes the worth it all
