We offer several different seating choices including a long bar with peninsulas for groups of up to six, standard seating in the dining room, high tops, a semi-private table for large parties up to 16, and a chef’s table that will seat 10 comfortably. We do accept reservations, but always save room for walk-ins, procrastinators, our neighbors, and anyone who might wander in.
Extremely slow service on a empty Saturday. Brunch arrived before our drinks. I saw lots of employees just standing around. And only one vegetarian option.
Amazing food, great and interesting wine, beautiful restaurant, and the best service (Jesse!) I’ve had in a long time. 10/10 in my opinion.
I went with a group of girls and we ordered a little bit of everything off the menu - our server coursed the food for us perfectly and responded quickly when we loved a dish and ordered more. Made a group dinner easy, fun, and delicious. Highly recommend.
Comfortable dining location. Great Brunch. Server, Jessica, was outstanding. We will absolutely be back again. Will try it for dinner next time.
Overall, this was a fantastic dining experience. The service was great, and we really enjoyed the ambiance. The Nashville hot oysters were amazing. We split two small and two “betwixt” dishes, and we found that to be the perfect amount of food for two people. We would definitely return.
Great food. Great service. Love the ambience. Never had a bad experience here.
Food was great! Our server was even better. Will definitely come back for dinner next!
Everything is so great but the portion is not big as we expected.
Very nice! Service especially terrific. Great beer selection.
Delicious food - really inventive and unusual combinations. Great casual ambience and nice wine list.
Such a fun happy hour...unique and delish. The staff all seemed to take pride in the place. Just so good all around. Had a refreshing blackcurrant cider while my companion had the happy hour cocktail. Had both Nashville hot options...the oysters were terrific and the schnitzel sammich was so satisfying. Sturgeon was lux and zingy to the last bite and the burrata with sweet peachy tomato jam made for a perfect dessert. Can’t wait to go back.
Interesting restaurant serving German-inspired fresh food in a modern atmosphere. Service was excellent; our water never ran out and our waiter was a real character!
What a wonderful surprise this place was. Innovative menu, knowledgeable and fun waiter, attentive wait staff and fun ambiance!
Great place, every one is super friendly, good food great beer and wine
Awesome happy hour .. cool (& tasty) menu
It was a great night out. The wait staff was awesome food was fantastic.
We sat next to horribly loud guests, which isn’t the restaurants fault. However, it took about 20 min to get a drink which happened twice. And about 30 min between courses. I probably wouldn’t recommend or go back, but it was fine.
We went to Funkenhausen for my birthday. We had a fabulous time. Our Server, John Casto is the best. He is so knowledgeable about not only the food but the wine and beer list as well. He takes his time to explain everything in detail, and really made our experience special. I highly recommend requesting him if you go, he went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time.
A fresh and fun dining experience! The food, the atmosphere and the wait staff are all great. I will definitely recommend and come back!
Four of us ate a Funkenhausen for the first time. We ordered a variety of items, mostly small plates but also one large plate. Honestly, the large plate serving size (Scottish Salmon) wasn't much different from the smaller plates. The salmon and the Sturgeon Pastrami were good but not exceptional, but everything else (Haus salad, broccolini, potato salad, pretzel, spare ribs, burratta) was delicious. The service was great and the wine recommendations were spot on. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant.
I really enjoyed brunch here. I loved the crispy potatoes I stole off my husband's plate. My companions liked their Nashville hot schnitzel sandwich and ham biscuit. I had mushroom, truffles, and egg over grits. I thought the mushrooms while cooked well were a tad too salty but the greens that had the truffle vinaigrette on it was great. I just made sure to have a combination of everything in each bite to balance the salty mushrooms. They have a kids menu with simpler food choices. My son went with two eggs & bacon. I was impressed with the amount of bacon he received. There may have been 4 or 5 slices! Eggs were fried ok. I think the kitchen for a kid's meal wanted to make sure the egg was cooked enough so the whites were a tad bit rubbery. Waitress was pleasant and attentive. Waters were kept filled. I really recommend try brunch here.
Excellent food!! Our server was perfect. We loved the atmosphere and vibe. We will be back for the amazing pastry and the food.
Great meal on the sidewalk. Nice wines, beer and food is an interesting mix of southern and German.
This is the best restaurant in Chicago, hands down. The experience is electric and the food is to die for. You will not regret eating here for any occasion I promise!
The food is really good. The service is also very fast.
Second time coming to Funkenhausen, and loved it just the same. You can’t go wrong here, everything on the menu is amazing in its own way. Give this place a try, you won’t be disappointed!
Great food and a clever concept. Go with friends. Great atmosphere for conversation.
I love this place. Between the friendly staff and the delicious food, it's a must go spot. We ordered lots of plates to share - so we could try a bit of everything. The White BBQ Sauce Ribs are out of this world
Very impressive, creative food and wonderful beer list. Can't wait to go back.
We ate brunch at Funkenhausen on a Sunday morning. It was delicious! There are many selections to choose from--traditional dishes like pancakes to schnitzel. Our waitress, Jessica, made the dining experience so much fun and enjoyable! The music volume could be lowered but we LOVED the tunes!
They changed the menu and removed one of my fav dish from the menu :( overall still very good food
Everything was good, plenty of room to hang out, and easy to chat with person in front of. Will be back to try cocktails!
We were looking forward to trying Funkenhausen. The food was good not great.
This is one of my favorite places in Chicago currently. Incredibly inventive and interesting menu (especially the Sturgeon Pastrami), and the ribs are incredible.
Awesome place! Menu was fun and unique. Vibe was very chill in the restaurant. Server gave us great recommendations and kitchen was able to easily accommodate food allergies within our group. Can't wait to go back!
Creative food - came here for brunch and it was fabulous! Would definitely come again. And the service was outstanding!
Good experience with brunch. The two of us were hungry, so we shared the Smoked Fish, the Mushroom, Truffle, and Egg, and the Buttermilk Pancake. The MTE and Pancake were both excellent. The Smoked Fish was good (pretzel was great), but my only complaint is that the portion of lox/fish was pretty small. Excellent service and atmosphere. I would return and recommend to others.
I wanted to love Funkenhausen - I love German food and the space is gorgeous. However, the food was very disappointing and our service was horrible. We had to ask for basics (salt/pepper, silverware) multiple times and didn't consistently get it. Won't be back unless I hear they've turned their act around.
Interesting well executed menu.
