I have to preface this by saying that we went right before restaurants and bars were closed due to Covid-19. We were able to get a reservation just before going to eat, and this is probably the reason. I went with my 2 20-something sons to meet my brother-in-law. The decor is trendy, upbeat, and the layout is great! My boys loved the foot, especially the ribs and the chicken. The beer special was great and the variety of all the dishes and drinks was just enough- not overwhelming. I would go back for the atmosphere more than for the food, bot overall, it was enjoyable!
Flippin’ fabulous. Go!!
first time diner, the food is special. trust the wait staff, they are quite good. will certainly be back.
The food was great, the beer boots delicious, and the server attentive. How nice to find a great restaurant like this one!
Mushroom, truffle, and egg with a side of the house sausage is a delightful treat to start a Sunday. The poached egg with the truffle and mushrooms bring out joy, which makes chefs smile when they see the ingredients. This is naturally enjoyed with a white Pinot Noir from Nahe, Germany, as it amplifies the flavors. Delectable!
I only wish you had snitzel that wasn't so spicy. Give people a choice. I am coming back in the evening soon
Highly recommend this place for groups of four and above. It's a fun place to share several dishes. The selections are eclectic, fun and well prepared. This past visit was my second time and I'll be back.
Food was fabulous
The restaurant is so aesthetically pleasing and beautifully decorated. Right from the beginning, two hostess’s greeted us and sat us at our table. Then, our server was easygoing and kind. They gave us a complimentary ticket for a mimosa and served us coffee right away too. I grabbed their salad with smoked salmon and although it was saltier than what I like, it was still delicious. Overall, I loved the place, the service, and food.
Exciting, menu with unique menu items. Everything is a flavor bomb.
Great food and service!
Was a bit underwhelmed unfortunately. Conceptually the food was better than the actual delivery . The ham and biscuit sandwich was dry and mostly consisted of the biscuit. The truffle grits seemed to be missing the truffle and lacked definition. The grits were reheated which led to a firmer consistency. The Nutella on the Nutella pancakes lacked any flavor and was too salty. It was more of a colored over whipped cream. Our food arrived very quickly which would lead one to believe the food was over prepped and then only validated by the lack of flavor and freshness.
Excellent food, great service, whole 30 friendly, baby friendly. I would def return for dinner. Brunch res, order the charred broccolini—you won’t be disappointed.
Nice spin on the German Bierhaus. Exceptional execution on food and service.
Great beer hall vibe, loved the vaulted ceilings and open space with the giant steins of delicious beer! We'll be back soon.
Loved the food and the atmosphere. I would recommend to anyone looking for something new and a bit different
Overall, a pleasant experience. The food and drinks were great. We tried a multitude of dishes and only one felt underwhelming. Service was good considering a busy night. Only negative comment was regarding seating. We were seated at a table near the window facing the street. This created a cold draft on a cold night. Hard to fault them, but still worth noting.
Generally speaking, the food was good. Pretzel way extremely dry, the dipping sauces saved it. Thought it was strange that there was no pork schnitzel on the menu.
Great food, fast service, nice atmosphere. Really interesting combinations of flavors that I haven't seen anywhere else
The food was all outstanding. We were ready to order 2/3 of the menu and wanted to try the remaining 1/3 on our next visit. We definitely want to come back for the Nashville hot schnitzel.
Our server John was very personable, OCD, and perfectly attentive! We loved our experience! Will definitely recommend your restaurant
Food is always good; not really a value for restaurant week.
From the ambience and the service, to the food and the drinks—really, the experience as a whole—the team at Funkenhausen absolutely knocked everything out of the park. 7 stars out of 5.
Everything was perfect!
Went for Restaurant Week! Great meal, great service.
Visited during Restaurant Week for brunch and loved the food! The PBJ doughnut was delicious, and the Mushroom, Truffle, and Egg made me put Funkenhausen on my list of must visit again restaurants. Great experience, and a very cute restaurant inside!
My sister and I went for brunch. We had a wonderful experience! We loved the French toast pretzel and breakfast Spätzle dish! The décor is modern with traditional German flair throughout. The wait staff is attentive and friendly. We will be back for the PBJ doughnut which was out of this world!
I noted it was my fiancé’s birthday in our reservation but no one acknowledged it. That was disappointing. The food and service was great as always.
I really loved this place. The food was excellent (definitely get into those Nashville hot oysters) and Jessie, our server, was awesome. I will absolutely go back.
Fantastic service and the food was phenomenal. Definitely will be back
Love the imaginative take on the classic German food!
Went for brunch with my girlfriends during Restaurant Week and had a great time! Will for sure try this place again. Super cute interior with a fun menu.
Engaging service, unique dishes, and great beer. What more could you want?
Friendly service and a nice restaurant. Food however was not great. Went for brunch and did not love the truffle grits with mushrooms. Cheaper ordering a la carte the same items that were on special for restaurant week which was pretty annoying.
We came as part of Chicago Restaurant Week and we will definitely be back.
Great restaurant week deal, will be back
Great brunch... among the best in the city
The maple pudding is great. Definitely order it.
The restaurant is very loud. As in, we could not hear the server describe the specials loud.
