We went for a pre theater dinner and they did a great job with the timing.
Would go back again especially for the Brussels sprouts
The food was great, however, the menu was very misleading which lead to our bill being a lot higher than we expected. My feedback would be to clarify the IPA/Lager served with the Happiest Meal and when someone orders it, clarify the beer selection. Overall, the food was good, but miscommunication and confusion left me unsatisfied.
Excellent market trio - highlights were the tots, cargo rice, and beets. Recommended to all my coworkers for an awesome lunch. Will definitely be coming back!
Chose fundamental DTLA for a work dinner (just coworkers) and was a little apprehensive about the small-ish menu as I wasn’t familiar with the groups culinary tastes. I didn’t have to worry.... everyone found something to be excited about and we all completely enjoyed every bite!
We wanted a bottle each of red & white wine and had fantastic overview of the wine list and descriptions of the options we were leaning towards.
Highly recommend this restaurant if you’re in downtown Los Angeles.
Great brunch. We decided to come here before taking our daughter to the airport following Thxgvg . The menu was just long enough to provide creative twists on old favorites. for example I had the Eggs Benedict on Cornbread -- impeccably prepared and just different enough to add new flavors to a traditional entrée. at our table we had an Avocado toast with poached egg, an amazing egg sandwich and 2 orders of French toast (looked great when our neighbor ordered it!!). The drinks menu and wine list are every bit as creative. I started with a glass of Austrian "Orange: wine a Meinklang Graupert and then had a glass of Gamay from Domaine Thillardon. Both delightful (especially the Meinklang Graupert!!). Foodies will love the creativity. The restaurant is small, but bright and modern in its openness. We chose to sit inside as the morning was a little chilly. I can't wait to come back and try the restaurant's other offerings as well as visit their restaurant on Westwood in west Los Angeles.
The breakfast burrito, with its crunchy tater tots, is OUTRAGEOUS! I want another one now, please!!! Their sides, like the roasted cauliflower, are delicious, and the service is always good.
Service was excellent - we showed up with extra people and they were very pleasant about it and made the seating work during a busy lunch rush. Food tasty too!
Our food was delicious! And the service was great. The short rib papparadelle was amazing
The parking was not convenient as they have no valet on a very busy street and it is unclear where you can park, used the restaurant next door valet. The food was quite good was impresed with the fig salad. The fried chicken is good. the service was friendly.
So good! Out waiter was very attentive, the service was quick and the food was good. Waiter gave us good recommendations on the sides: the tots and the cauliflower. Got the burrito and avocado toast as well. Waiter was helpful in helping us plan the portions for two people, though in the end we decided to order more so we had extra to take home.
Love the ambience and decors here. Always up to par!
We came in for a tasting for a possible catering option for our Corporate Christmas party. Everything was really delicious and the staff was very prompt, helpful. They provided us with a few extra samples. Overall the experience eating here was great. We would definitely come back for another visit.
Amazing food , took my family for brunch on a Sunday! Chilaquiles were amazing . Loved the atmosphere
Service and food were incredible, would highly recommend
Thank you for accommodating our requests. Service by Nick was outstanding!
I have been a regular at Fundamental L.A. from the beginning and wanted to try their new downtown place. the menu is terrific, they have a great cocktail list and the food was really nice. I would go gain
Love coming here when I want a quality meal and quick dining experience. Chicken salad is light and delicious. Burger is most and chicken torta is seasoned. Service can be a bit slow at times while on your lunch break.
First time eating at Fundamental, but definitely not my last. The 7th and Grand area is packed with good restaurant options so I hadn't made it to here before, but it came up on Open Table and I was looking for a new place to have a business lunch and it turned out to be a great choice.
We said inside although there is also outdoor seating on the patio. The menu upon first glance is pretty simple, breakfast items (including a breakfast burrito served all day, one of their signatures i'm told), sandwiches, and salads, plus some optional pre-made sides from their deli takeout case.
I'm currently on a 12-week meat and veggies program, so I had a kale caesar with grilled chicken and the tomato bisque, my lunch mate had the avocado toast, and we shared a side of the Brussel sprouts. Everything tasted delicious, very fresh and flavorful.
I am definitely planning to come back once I incorporate carbs back into my diet, because every sandwich I saw come out of the kitchen looked better than the last, and they all looked amazing. If they taste even half as good as they looked it will be worth the return trip to try them out.
I had lunch a few days prior at Bottega Louie a few doors down, which is great food but way too noisy to have an actual conversation in. Fundamental had the perfect laidback, cozy atmosphere to have a relaxing and enjoyable business lunch.
Tasty food and cocktails. Loved the tuna tostada and bone marrow dishes. Very friendly and attentive service.
For a Friday night, it was very quiet but the food was excellent and so was the service. It seems to be more of a breakfast and lunch place but I have to say the dinner fare was quite tasty.
Came here for brunch. The servers were nice but it was a very small menu.
Great service. The high top chairs are a little uncomfortable but everything else was nice.
The food menu is not extensive, but there is something for most tastes. We shared fried chicken sandwich, short rib pasta, and brussel sprouts, all were delicious!! The staff was very helpful. We would definitely go back the next time we are in LA.
I dined here for lunch during Dine LA Restaurant Week. The sandwich I had was just okay. The crust of the bread was really hard. I was not able to eat it. I ended up removing all of the crust and just ate the middle part of the bread. If a different bread was used, I would have liked it. The hostess was not very competent. I had made a reservation through Open Table. I told her as I walked in that I have a reservation. She seated us. One hour later, I received an email from Open Table saying "sorry, we missed you." I had to talk to the hostess to informed her that we had just finished eating and that we are here.
Brunch on Sunday for $15 can’t be beat. Avocado toast was phenomenal, as was chicken salad sandwich. Great sides. Wait staff was very accommodating on ingredient adjustments. No complaints at all.
Went for Sunday brunch, egg dishes are quite limited so if that’s what you are after, look elsewhere. Their house made toast is delicious. So are the breakfast potatoes and they did a great job with my scrambled eggs. The Bloody Mary was extremely bland, however.
Literally the best French toast I’ve ever had. Texture was perfect. Taste was perfect. Unbelievable.
The chilaquilas were also outstanding.
I’d be remiss not to mention that it was the worst Bloody Mary I’ve ever had... not sure what happened there; it was 9am on Saturday so maybe the bartender wasn’t there yet or something but ya... awful.
Great food, service, and ambiance
Food was delicious. We both enjoyed burger Brussels sprouts and potato salad and cookies. Great deal this week with DineLA but we will be back when it’s over. Also ordered 4 sandwiches to go for Hollywood bowl and were all scrumptious. Our friends loved them.
Went with a party of four. Server forgot about one person’s whole order. First forgot the drink, then told us that the entree was out after 10 mins, then forgot the side, and got the wrong dessert. Other than that the food was great! I’m sure it was just a one time error or an off day, so I will definitely be going back.
DineLa Week: We were greeted nicely, and seated quickly. Our waitress was nice and attentive, and our food was out quickly and correct. Lunch was an hour. I’ll be back for Happy Hour for sure.
Nice breezy seats outside on the patio. Servers were nice and courteous. Water was filled frequently. Food took some time to come out but it was made fresh. Tables could be bigger. Not much spacing between 2 person tables. With DineLA menu, it takes the regular lunch menus and adds dessert cookie and beverage for $1, that's the difference. I would come back! Lots of healthy options.
Excellent kale salad. Great service and atmosphere.
Seating and service were a little clumsy, but I think they'll figure it out. Food was good. I would go there again.
The food was great :) perfect for Sunday brunch with the coffee
Note the power lunch is for take out only. The pdf menu doesn't indicate that and doordash and ritual online order sites don't indicate it either.
Made a reservation for Father's Day. We requested outdoor seating, but when we arrived we asked to be seated inside since it was chilly. They were booked inside at the time, and we sat outside. We were a group of 5, seated at the far end of the patio. There were three other tables closer to the entrance with four heat lamps. We requested heat lamps and were told there weren't anymore available. I found it utterly ridiculous that with advance reservations, this restaurant wouldn't evenly distribute heat lamps among the outdoor tables. There was one table with two heat lamps and two empty tables with heat lamps but they wouldn't move a heat lamp for us. Ruined our experience. Otherwise the food was tasty but the service ruined the experience for us.
While the ambiance and food were good (my avocado toast was excellent), service kind of ruined it for our party. The hostess was accommodating and all the servers and runners and bus boys were nice. But service was just so slow and the restaurant wasn't even busy. It would take forever for our server to return to the table after we had requested something. It took a long time to get the check. And our waiter didn't even ask how our food was during the meal. Again, he was very friendly but we prefer not to sit around waiting when we have to go about the rest of our day.
Wonderful staff. Quick service. Best matcha.
Fantastic food! The perfect bistro spot DTLA has been waiting for.
