We sat down to eat and after looking at the menu there was only two items that I wanted to eat on there. The waitress came and took our order for appetizers. Then came back and I told her the first thing that I wanted as an entree, she said we’re out of it. Then I told her the second thing that I wanted, and she told me they were out of that as well. If they knew they were out of items on the menu they could have let me know before ordering anything.
A wonderfully diverse menu, excellent service, delicious food (beef tallow fries, yum!).
We requested an indoor table on the reservation to be inside the pretty restaurant but they stuck us on a cold uninviting patio. We were dressed up for an event and had homeless people bothering us several times outside. We never got to experience the restaurant. We had a sever that could not even remember to bring us sugar or milk with tea even though requested several times.. Food was ok to fair. Nothing great. Service very lacking although friendly. Just an overall bad experience and we are very upset our request for an indoor table was not met. Won't be back.
Apart from the wonderful service this restaurant was disappointing at best. It’s not a cheap eats place ... the food came out cold and when sent back it again came out cold. The menu was interesting and the plates presented well but .. cold !
Wine list is interesting and very well explained. Maybe it should be a wine bar ...
Asked for one of the two booths that were open and told they were already requested. We had our whole meal and paid and neither were taken. Requested salt and pepper and needed to remind them again.
We live right next door ... above Bottega ... and this place is always last on our list because of the snobby attitude at the hostess desk ... your food does not support that kind of attitude. It’s as if walk-ins are never welcomed, therefore you completely disregard the entire traffic that walks by your restaurant. If someone has a reservation they will certainly let you know as they approach you. But your greeting sucks!!!! You make every they attempts to eat at your place feel unwelcome. I will not be returning... it was not worth me making reservations. I was treated the same as if I hadn’t.
Sat on the patio and had constant homeless people leaning over our table asking for money or food.
Bought bottomless mimosas and they weren’t very fast refilling them and felt like they hurried us out of there.
All around poor experience for ~$140 brunch for 3 people
Stood at the hostess stand for 10 minutes with literally 10 people in other groups waiting...for a host. Quite literally 5 servers nervously pushed past "us all" repeatedly but not one could be bothered to greet any of us. By the time the host made his way over to me, I had already turned to leave. Too crowded, mismanaged, overbooked.
The cornbread egg Benedict is too sweet for my liking
Good food, good service and a great brunch place downtown.
It was a great experience with just a couple minor flaws. Service was excelent! Our servers and the owner/manager were great people. Food was good but a little cold and I was really bummed that their most famous plate was not available (Fried Chicken). Their wine flights were delicious and the Mexican beer great as well. Price was a bit steep for the amount of food you get, but not too bad.
The food tasted great and was reasonably priced for a downtown brunch spot. The waitress was very attentive and gave great food recommendations. We did not have drinks, but normally I would be interested in bottomless mimosas (however, I do feel 22 is a bit steep). I would come back.
Loved the food. It was so tasty. Price ? Unbeatable. Our server was very kind and friendly. Loved her vibe. I loved the place so much that I went the next day.
Every dish was phenomenal. Taste, presentation, creativity were all perfect. The salmon was cooked to perfection. I want to eat at fundamental every day!!
Loved my mediterean salad, but it needed more dressing and the chicken was dry. It was good with more dressing.
The ambiance was nice, but also nothing special.
Love this place! Wonderful food and not overpriced. Portions are HUGE, so easy to split, plus a side to share (that free range chicken sandwich - yum!). Can get a loud with a peak noon crowd, but you can still talk.
I normally don’t give negative reviews but the service was horrible that really prompt this. Although the food was delicious, I would not recommend coming back until they have better servers. We came here to celebrate a friends birthday and could only meet for brunch at 10am in downtown LA. Just shortly after all of our food arrived, (11am) our server told us that the table was reserved for another party at 12pm...and we would only be able to stay till then. Honestly the restaurant wasn’t even 1/2 filled yet. After that we were constantly rush to clear our bill and have our food packed for Togo! I’d definitely ask management in the future to let customers know when at the time of seating they have time limitations. I’ve been to more popular restaurants where the staff mentions that immediately so that you are aware. Thus making the dinning experience a bad vibe! Honestly we weren’t planning to stay too long but the server was just rude for rushing us.
If only they had outlets I would stay all day, every day!
Came in for brunch on Easter Sunday - The service was great, food was good, nice location.
Loved this place. Both food and service were impeccable. My reservation was for 5 people but needed to add 2 more to the table. They accommodated us without any questions. Table service was on point with the server constantly checking on us, and making sure all of our drinks are never out.
Food was simply delicious. Everyone raved about their dish. Thank you for the amazing brunch. Glad I got to share it with my family!
I love this restaurant. I have had lunch here twice and dinner once. I love the decor. The servers are always friendly and the food is amazing. The only thing that was a little disappointing was the serving size of the delicious cornbread. I wish it was a little bigger for sharing. I cannot wait to try brunch and the oysters with wine.
We went for the weekend brunch and it was all great. Service and food were on point. Price was good for the quality and value of the food.
Great service. They were able to seat us immediately with the reservation. The table/space was cramped for a party of 6. Would like to have some hooks under the table for our bags since space was tight.
Great meal! The aji sauce was delicious, even on the side of the breakfast burrito; the eggs plate was humongous; the French toast was the perfect portion; and the fried chicken sandwich was on point. Solid service, too. We especially enjoyed the 90s R&B playlist, lol. Don’t skip on the bloody marys - they were fantastically spicy!
Great restaurant and would likely return. Unfortunately we hoped for one more bottomless mimosas, but they would not allow it because brunch was over. It would have been best if we were aware of an end time. Otherwise, everyone was wonderful.
Said they were closed when we arrived even though we had made a reservation on open table.
Went for breakfast. Our server was fantastic, very attentive and went above and beyond. Food was ok, we had breakfast burrito and granola. Milk in our coffees was burnt.
I really had high expectations for Fundamentals because it was suggested by hotel concierge at the Intercontinental. However, both the food and service was poor during brunch. I ordered bottomless mimosas & due to the slow service was only able to enjoy 1 refill before my party was done eating. We received only a single check-in from our server Jasmine during brunch, who seemed nonchalant to do anything other than take our payment.
Excellent service, tasty food, and a beautiful atmosphere. The sweet potato hash was insanely good as was the breakfast burrito! We sat at the bar and both the bartender and barista were so lovely. We will definitely be coming back!
Relaxed DTLA restaurant. Food is excellent. Loved the egg sandwich. Would highly recommend for a casual bite!
Loved loved loved my white cheddar grits!
We had to wait 20+ minutes even though we had a reservation. The food was delicious.
have been here a few times before, and service and food was excellent. yesterday, not so much. we had a server who was slightly inattentive and timid (perhaps new?), and our order took about double the time it usually takes for us to receive it and it seemed as if it had been sitting for some time. our tot order was half the size as usual, so perhaps there was also another cook that day. unsure if our server even thanked us upon tipping her, as her voice was so low. will be returning, but perhaps with a different server. overall it was a slight bummer.
Really enjoyed this place and will definitely go again. We went there for breakfast on a Sunday and it was delicious. Staff were accommodating when we asked to sit near the windows.
Valentines dinner was delicious, and I would definitely come again. They accommodated for my friend for her seafood allergy. It was one of the best dinners I had in a long time. We felt welcomed, and attended to.
Went for brunch. They water down the bottomless mimosas with soda water.
It's a nice enough place, nothing special that was on menu. We tried 3 different entrees, Bahn Mi, Protein plate and fried chicken sandwich. All were ok.......the ingredients did seem fresh and reasonable portions.
Awesome wine list, interesting cocktails, and delicious food. Great atmosphere and service. I will be a regular!!
Great food, amazing service, and the beautiful decor!
Nice spot - looks good, tastes good, they treat you well and it isn’t too expensive. Recommended!
