There’s a saying in Japan, ‘Ichi-go ichi-e,’ which means, every moment is one-of-a-kind and something to be treasured. This is the philosophy of our neighbourhood restaurant FUMI, located in the centre of Brighton.
A slow restaurant in a fast-moving city, FUMI is a place where flavours, service and interiors are harmonious.
A simple Japanese inspired menu driven by the seasons, our moods and by whatever is fresh and exciting in the moment.

At FUMI, we source all our produce, meats and fish from small, local suppliers. Nothing is mass-produced or served out of season, with everything we create coming directly from the farm to your table. Each meal at FUMI is a celebration of bountiful harvests, beloved community, and our favourite pairing of food and friends.

    Our first time at Fumi.. it was very good, lovely staff, nice open atmosphere, would certainly go again.

    Only One server but as the restaurant was mostly empty no impact was noticed. Although the waiter was friendly his lack of higiene was very noticeable with very dirty hands and nails and his clothes very unkempt. The food also left a lot to be desired it was so greasy and left a sick feeling in the stomach but the sake was good and the only true japonese experience as the food was really bad. So I would not recommend this restaurant.

    We always love Fumi but hadn’t been for maybe a year and the food was even better than we remembered. I think there is a new chef. Everything was delicious. Highly recommended, lovely staff and the new sofa is super comfy.

    Pretty terrible dining experience. Saturday evening and there was no wine, Prosecco, champagne or lemonade available. Shortage of menus and staff complaints about deliveries. Service was poor and the food disappointing. Offered the chance to visit again but declined, will not be returning.

    Excellent, friendly service yet not obtrusive. Interesting and varied wine list and superb food beautifully presented. Couldn’t fault a thing.

    The first two times we visited Fumi it felt like a real treat. Unfortunately the last two visits have been incredibly disappointing with problems in the kitchen and long wait times on the food on both occasions. Sadly wouldn’t recommend.
