This was by FAR the best dining experience I’ve had in Chicago. The food is to die for. Amazing and kind staff, wonderful cocktails, and delicious menu. Thank you for making our anniversary so special!!!
such a cool scene! great food and vibe! Loved the drinks and the food was really different and super tasty!
Birthday celebration. The environment and staff were outstanding for the most part. Very interesting decor., although the room we were sat in was decorated in very dark gray wood tones and the lighting was so light w we could barely read our menu without help from our phones flashlight or the small tea candles on each table. A touch more light would have improved the mood and environment. I like to be able to see a chefs wonderfully plated creations and prefer not to eat blindly in the dark.
As for the menu, selections sounded very appealing and I expected a more unique combination of flavors based on the descriptions. Out of seven dishes we selected, only one, a scallop and sweet bread dish with a wonderful carrot purée accented with ginger, truly stood out. Nearly all the other dishes were a one note, fairly flat attempt leaving the palette muddied and confused.
As a fellow chef, I had high hopes for trying this menu based on reviews and such, but left seriously underwhelmed by the dishes we tried. Although well executed in technique, Something was missing in the wow department. I had hoped to be blown away but left feeling like I could have had the same non descriptive experience at any of a number of establishments around town. Nothing on this visit warrant a spark of excitement to return unless, perhaps, to try a new configuration of the menu.
Besides the short menu and loud atmosphere, we had a great time. The food was great! And the service was excellent!
Bartender and the hostess were a bit rude. The waiter was nice but not very knowledgeable. Food came out and he never came to check on us and the seasoning on the half chicken was very off, and we had some issues on the half plates. Fun spot but service plus food was definitely making us feel like we didn’t want to go back there again
Great and stylish place. We had the 75$ menu and were positively surprised how delicious it was.
The art and the unique rooms were really cool. Food was good but not exceptional for the price.
Unique and fun atmosphere. Great for our Birthday celebration. Would also be a fun place for a date night. Food did not disappoint. Good wine list as well.
The ambiance and the space was very artsy and nice. The food selection could’ve been expanded a little more. Food was good but wasn’t outstanding, ingredients were really fresh, and prices were reasonable.
We tried the beef cheeks which were served luke warm and the sauce had congealed. The monk fish was tasty but the fishy roe was unpleasant. Overpriced and not worth the effort. I am surprised to see they have been open for so long. The hostess should be moved to dish duty.
We enjoyed FMK but did have a few critiques. We started with the glazed carrots which we thought were great. For entrees we my girlfriend had the monkfish which was bacon wrapped. Pretty much a no brainer right? Unfortunately the was a bit overly salty ( and we enjoy bacon.). It was still very good though.
For my entree i had the venison. It was seasoned and cooked very well. For me the morels and root veggies were a little underwhelming but the main issue I had was the blackberry sauce. I believe the flavor was juniper, but it was very potent and just didn’t work for me, I felt like I was eating a sauce made heavily with gin.
All that being said, we enjoyed out experience and the ambiance was nice and relaxed despite being a bit on the noisy side, but it’s understandable given they have a sizable bar area. We would return and try FMK again.
Great time for birthday dinner
Great ambience and drinks
Lovely ambience , however the lamb shank I got was extremely salty... overly priced for what I could eat.
Great ambience but too noisy for me
Terrific preparation of Monkfish entrée and short rib pasta appetizer. Great artsy space, and fun but professional staff and bartender. I have also been here for a corporate type event and the food served family style at the event was fantastic as well.
Food was outstanding. Ambience perfect for a birthday dinner with friends.
Great staff, food and atmosphere.
Ideal for dates or small group get togethers
All was just ok. Food was average. Service was rushed and rude. Atmosphere was probably the most interesting.
I would skip the desserts. They were out of the pecan cheesecake, and the chocolate with peppermint was a big disappointment. Other than that every small plate we had was fabulous!
Such a fun and creative space! Food was excellent! Will definitely go back!
Excellent experience. After being seated at an odd table, we moved to the bar and started with a glass of wine. Not before long, we switched to the cocktails. They were excellent and creative. We had a sampling of the small plates and larger platters: including the beef cheeks, brussel sprouts, beef pasta, smoked potatoes, veggie board, and dessert board (way too much food, but all good food). The veggie platter had an impressive presentation and was one of my favorites. The dessert board needs at least 4 people to help with it. All in all a great time was had by all.
We had the 5 course feed me chef option. The food was delicious but they missed the meat course. We were given a certificate to compensate the mistake. The decor and ambiance was my favorite.
I went to Fulton Market Kitchen to celebrate Valentine's Day with my girlfriend. Both of us were very impressed with the artwork and ambiance, as well as the service. Out waitress was outstanding at describing the restaurant concept, and the different dishes. Everything we ordered, including the unique cocktails, were very good! I would recommend this to anybody looking to explore this neighborhood, and some good food!
Delicious food overall. I understand the loud music attracts a younger clientele and turns tables over faster, but does the bass level in the music have to be so overwhelming? You could feel it in your bones.
Was a belated Valentine's date and it was wonderful!
Fun place! Great food, really cool atmosphere, and service was solid. Mixologists serve up some awesome cocktails. Very creative recipes and very service oriented bartenders.
Amazing experience! The restaurant is tucked away in a corner of Fulton Market which feeds the ambiance and theme. The space is incredible with a lot of eye catching pieces of art that keep your head on a swivel.
Service was great! Great drink recommendations as well as food recommendations. The drinks are fantastic and we are still dreaming about the food.
Can’t go wrong!
My friends and I were really looking forward to dining at Fulton Market Kitchen (FMK) to celebrate my birthday and Chicago Restaurant Week, but our dining experience was absolutely atrocious. OpenTable limits the number of words for reviews, so please see my entire review on Yelp. I was really looking forward to celebrating my birthday with friends at FMK, but FMK turned out to be a complete dining disaster. With a plethora of other fine restaurants in the West Loop, as a local resident, it saddens me to say that FMK is a restaurant that should be avoided.
The hostess was one of the rudest people i have ever encountered. Good luck with her.
Had the restaurant week menu. Resembled boarding school dining hall food. Below average.
Went for restaurant week, the food was great. The art work and the atmosphere was so unique, every time you turn your head you notice something new. The staff was very friendly and professional as well. Such a cool place!
The ambiance is really cool with fun pop art everywhere! Good place to stop in for a drink.
The greens that come with the shrimp and grits are amazing. I would order just that and be perfectly happy. Wow.
First time try in honor of Chicago Restaurant Week. The entire experience surpassed our expectations. The menu was familiar yet creative. Caesar salad never tasted so good. Who knew something we've eaten for years could surprise us?!? Each dish extended our wonder at this dining experience. A perfect chocolate concoction capped it off wonderfully. We will be back and back with large numbers.
Totally disappointed. Visited for restaurant week. Service was super slow. Total inflexibility with the menu . The starter Caesar salad was awful. The steak Main was tough and had a terrible sauce. The puddings were less than average. The only redeeming course was the gnocchi which was very, very good. Had to endure a table of drunk 20 something’s who became louder and louder every minute that passed. Loved the interior of this place but the vibe did not match the food and service. Will it be returning.
Food, service and atmosphere was amazing. Todd and Jose are rock stars and made us feel at home the whole time. Will be back regularly and looking forward to it
Excellent experience at Fulton Market Kitchen. My client loved the atmosphere, industrial look, and wall art. A vibrant atmosphere coupled with sophisticated service. Thank you, Todd, for the detailed attention and for letting us call you Nelly Fur-todd-a. We loved the martinis and thank you for recommending the organic vodka - big fan.
Awesome piece of the Art community.
Outstanding, on every level.
This place is good for people who want to eat farm to table. The menu was very small when we went in January. I presume it would be a heartier menu in the summer time. We were looking forward to sharing the smorgasboard tray, which featured pickled seafood, but they didn't get their seafood delivery that day so we ordered a crudite platter. The humus was amazing but the selection of veggies was disappointing. And I don't think they need to leave the roots on the veggies to make the point that they are farm to table. It would have been nice to be able to just eat the veggies without having to remove the roots. The ambiance is fantastic, but it's almost like they were trying too hard to be local and organic.
