It was not good.
I love FMK! My favorite restaurant.
It was a Monday so it wasn’t very full so, I think that took away from the experience. The decor is very cool and I bet the atmosphere feels a lot more alive later in the week. We both had fish and I would say both were very overdone, kind of charred but flavorless. The service was good but, I’ve had so many good meals in Chicago I don’t know if I’d return when the food was really not impressive. I realize that I may have just hit the kitchen on an off night but again, so many other options.
We arrived for our reservation on a Friday night. The dining area had a great vibe. Our server arrived and took our drink order, returned with our drinks and asked if we would like to order. We'd just gotten settled in and really hadn't studied the menu. We asked the server to give us a few minutes. 2 minutes later the server was back and inviting us to place our entire dinner order with the traditional caveat "we will take our time bringing courses out to you, but it helps the kitchen." We said we'd like to start with a couple of appetizers. Period. The server brought the appetizers out and then asked for our order. I said we were in no hurry and we would signal when ready to continue. The food was only "okay." The bolognese was too salty. We had heard about the carmelized cauliflower, we ordered it but sent it back because it tasted burnt, not caramelized. We also tried the beef fat french fries. They were cold and mushy. We won't be back.
I liked the vibe. Servers were wonderful. The food was so disappointing.
Stu the manager greeted us at the door, knew it was our reservation and that we were celebrating a birthday. Happily accommodated us pushing back our reservation multiple times. Upon arrival he gifted us each a glass of bubbles to celebrate and confidently made suggestions for our meal- he was right. The fried green tomatoes were our favorite pick, something I never would’ve ordered without his encouragement. We also had their take on a wedge salad that was beyond delicious. Two starters and a few drinks later we ordered a Bolognese and the roasted chicken, the chicken came in this sauce/spatzle /gravy that was moms fav. Stu gave me a tour of the space, we discussed the artists on display and the various possibilities of the venue. Truly was impressed with the space, the food and most of all Stu- funny, charming, knowledgeable, and spot on with his recommendations. I’m a jerk- never write reviews but this experience was worth the time. Go. -MM
WOW - we were impressed with everything!!!
Whole Fish , Pork Cutlet, Gem Salad & Gruyere Toast were delicious. Oh, & save room for the Apple dessert !!! Wonderful, attentive service topped it all off
This exceeded my expectations! From the excellent service , the outstanding hospitality, to the fantastic food... Nick our bartender went as far as walking a list of must eats to our table & our server Matt was so attentive & his recommendations were on point. The pork Milanese is a def must try , but everything was just perfect. My congrats to the gentlemen who put this establishment together & the Chef.
Just really excellent food in a hip venue with friendly service. This place is becoming a favorite.
Very artsy and dark, but the food and the drinks (strong) are amazing. Very creative place!
The food, while quite good, was nothing memorable at this price category.
The cocktails, as well, were good but nothing spectacular.
Would not return
We were not too impressed.
Tried FMK for a date night. Visually interesting space, enjoyed the art and decor. All the cocktails we had were fantastic. Ordered the ciabatta bread with beef broth. It was extremely flavorful. My scallops were some of the best I've had in a long while. My wife ordered the leeks; those were a miss. Not braised properly.
Fried green tomato apps were amazing! I had the halibut which was great. My friend had the walleye which was really bad. She couldn’t eat it. Service was okay and ambiance was fun. We were at FMK on a Friday and there was a DJ in the main dining area. Nice touch.
The front of the restaurant makes you wonder if you are at the right address. Push ahead and you enter an eclectic space that has you gazing at the decor. The food is outstanding. Don’t miss the fried green tomato salad and the walleye. The service was spectacular and the wine selection will be enjoyable. A new found favorite.
Despite the food being very good I felt it was very overpriced and left there hungry.
It was like being transported to The south of France!
The patio is to die for- I absolutely loved it. The waiters and waitresses could not have been nicer! So attentive but not too in your face.
The cocktails were amazing- I had the sage advice, but I also tried the last straw and the BDK spritzer. All delicious for different reasons.
The crab cakes were delicious, as was the salad.
Just an awesome space! And the food was amazing. My father who was visiting from NY said afterwards... "That was the best meal I've had in some time!"
A great evening, friendly greeting on arrival, we were early so we sat at the bar (very creative, made out of stacked antique luggage) on very comfy leather stools, and had fun watching 2 talented bartenders create delicious cocktail! We were then seated at our table, and our waiter had great info and recommendations...the food preparation was original and delicious! The atmosphere very artsy and fun! Would definitely return!
Highly recommend Fulton Market Kitchen. The food is some of the best we have had at any restaurant. The menu is inventive and the quality of the food is first rate. All of the choices are wonderful combinations of textures and flavor. The cocktails are refreshing and tasty. Don't miss this restaurant on any visit to Chicago.
Ordered the prawns, walleyed and the pork. Food was too salty and we left some unfinished.
Portion sizes are large!!
Food was cold. Service was slow and the prices were way too high. Very disappointing. Cannot recommend.
Amazing ambiance most eclectic decor rivaling any Chicago eatery .. food was fantastic but bit on the sparse side for the price on entrees ..
It was my girlfriends bday. The food was ok, however this cauliflower appetizer was amazing. Highly recommend it. Our server was fantastic. The place is beautiful and feels like an art studio.
This restaurant is a complete rip-off. To start, we asked for bread since we were starving. The bread that came was very ordinary with a tasteless dip and a hefty charge. Do not come hungry. The portions are small and nothing comes with the entree. This was the payoff! They charge for refills on iced tea...unheard of. When the bill came we asked to speak to the manager who, in fairness, reduced it slightly. Although the food was pretty good, prices are ridiculous for what you get.
Almost at the end of West Loop restaurant district but very nice place. Indoor decoration fascinating. All the dishes we ordered came quickly. We ordered Black Pepper Prawns and Hamachi Crudo for appetizer, and both were delicious. I particularly liked the ingredients such as Cucumber in Hamachi Crudo, as these ingredients helped the flavor to be less "fishy". I had this dish at some other restaurants with less sauce and the taste was too strong. For Entree we had Pork Loin and Scallops. Pork Loin came in with a big portion and super tasty. That evening there were not too many guests and it felt tranquil and peaceful. Would love to revisit.
Weird experience. The host was mediocre in her approach to meet and seat us, almost as if she was annoyed. Our server was nice, and she gave us a heads up that cocktails were taking longer than usual, which we appreciated, buy by dessert, we were getting our dessert drinks after we were done with dessert. Dessert, by the way, was not good. Ordered smores, and when we opened the jar, we both coughed from the unpleasant fume. Everything else we ordered had great intention in its attempt, but just didn't hit the mark. Food also took longer than it should have, and the server kept thanking us for our patience, but nothing extra was offered or comped as a gesture of appreciation (something I deem as common practice in hospitality) I mentioned it was my cousin's birthday (who I was dining with) and it wasn't even acknowledged. Really wanted to love this place, but I most probably will not be back. Thanks anyway
Looked like good reviews online, so give it a shot! Really good! Great ambiance, very hip look - very “Fulton Marketish”. Staff was attentive and helpful, food was fantastic, and I think the price point was very good for the aforementioned positives. We’ll go back for sure.
Thanks, Dave! We'll see you again soon!
This was the second time we have dined there coming in from Carmel, Indiana. The service is stellar. The drinks are original and delicious. We had the Sourdough Ciabatta for starters. The bread is toasted and there is beef jus and tomatoes jam to dunk in and put on your slices of ciabatta. The candle sitting in the jus is editable. For dinner we ate Pan Seared Walleye with risotto, English peas and bacon. We also had Oven Roasted Chicken with truffle jus, fregola sarda, cappers, almonds and ricotta salata. We added a side of crispy red potatoes. OMG the food was soooo good. And for dessert we had S’mores. It is a brown butter cake, marshmallow, smoked milk chocolate ganache, and it is made in a Masson jar. When the lid is opened the smell of a wonderful campfire spills out. It tastes wonderful. Is your mouth watering?
Thanks, Sonja! It looks like you guys did it right. Looking forward to having you back again soon!
No vegetarian options for entrees. Menu was limited. Few dessert selections and what we had was disappointing. Walleye was excellent!
Great experience all around. When we left we were already planning when we could go back. Food was amazing and everything was so fresh. Definitely did not disappoint.
Excellent, Brandon! Thanks so much! Hope to see you back soon!
This was our first time dining at Fulton Market Kitchen. The atmosphere was great-very eclectic! Fun artwork, murals, and "floating" wooden boats. Loved the suitcases on the front of the bar. Could go casual or dress up a bit and feel comfortable. The service was good-friendly and willing to give suggestions on the menu options. The meal was fantastic! And the desserts were different-in the best of ways. Will definitely be back.
Thanks so much for the kind words, Jess! We're so glad you enjoyed your night with us. Hope to see you again soon!
our party oldest by about 40 years--service good--$30 chicken ok--the area is a madhouse on a Saturday night--loud and vibrant with a handful of empty tables at 8PM--bill with 4 entrees-one appetizer--one dessert--and drinks and tip for 4 people $325 + parking Too trendy for older folk--too many wonderful ChiTown spots--Joes--Picolo etc
Some of the best New American / Seafood I've had in a very very long time. Truly outstanding dish after dish.
Fun, funky vibe in this Fulton Market Kitchen. We split a salad that I wish I ordered my own. Bacon, blue cheese wedge was delicious! The cavatelli bolognese was the best I’ve had outside of my grandma’s kitchen. My husband ordered the pork tenderloin- enough to feed four, really! Very good food, charming staff, and I’d go back in a minute.
Fulton Market Kitchen is Fulton Markets’ Pièce De Résistance!
Thanks for the kind words, Sebastian! We'll see you again soon!
Food was just not good. Thats all i can say. Our server was bringing us food, but didnt bother to add wine to our glasses, nor ask us if we need anything. The whole experience was just unpleasant
Great ambiance and great food! Not that crowded for mid week, which allowed me to book a lager work dinner. Will go again.
Great! Look forward to having you back! Thanks for the kind review!
