We are a restaurant, bar, cafe, cinema, gallery, and venue. We encourage all patrons coming to shows in our theater to join us for dinner in the main restaurant by making a reservation in advance of show times. If you choose not to dine with us, you are still welcome to get a drink and nibbles in our "cafe"- theater entrance. We do not serve food into the theater space.
Amazing food and location. Really enjoyed the old mill feel of the facility.
We have been coming to Frontier for many years, and bringing most out of town guests with us for a unique dining experience. As of 11/19/19 this will not be the case. While we understand that the menu changes seasonally and do like to see some of the new offerings, the new menu was a shock and not up to the standard that we have come to expect.
We ordered several items, sides were excellent (falafel, marinated tofu, and salmon) but the mains were terrible. We ordered two seasonal bowls of cous-cous, grilled asparagus, and ginger crema. The cous-cous was clumpy as if it was sitting, there was no ginger flavor what so ever and the asparagus was just three small tips. We also ordered two wild rice bowls with fruit. The two of us expected the rice to be warm, it was cold, not as in it sat too long before serving but cold, menu didn't say that. The rice was undercooked and mine had 4 or five segments of grapefruit and orange in about 2 cups of wild rice, that was all that was in the bowl. Our favorite sweet potato fries have been dropped from the offering as well.
In the future we will just come for a cocktail, as those were made as expected, and then walk down town for our dinner. Really too bad...
Perfect spot for dinner with friends- enough different dinner choices to satisfy everyone. Cocktails were great, too. Service was friendly and efficient. We will be back!
The menu has gotten smaller, which is great for the kitchen, for sure. Not a single entree i would choose, but glad you still have Brussels sprouts. I enjoyed my 2 appetizers for a meal. My husband’s was a little weird, but he ate it. Is it a new thing that they don’t offer specials, or has it always been like that on weeknights? Kind of disappointed. The film schedule looks amazing, though!
Unique, kid friendly. Menu slightly limited but good excellent
Great atmosphere and food. I love going to this restaurant when I am in Brunswick visiting my kid at college.
Love this place.
Worst meal. Waited forever for our order which waitress got wrong. Music - misnomer - was loud and obnoxious. Too many bad experiences. Will not be back.
We enjoyed another outstanding dinner at Frontier Cafe while attending the Bowdoin Homecoming. Food, service, and ambience all excellent.
Fun, interesting and lively place.
Muscles, salad, and burgers are a good bet. Portions are ridiculously huge. Share or order apps as a main.
My husband has been to the Frontier on a few occasions and has spoken so highly of the restaurant. We finally had a chance to go together and what a great experience! From the interesting way you enter the facility to the warm and attentive service the Frontier is a welcome addition to the burgeoning food scene in Brunswick. My husband had the Asian bowl with grilled chicken ...unbelievably delicious with the addition of sushi rice and pickled ginger. I had the soup of the day and interesting Mole’ garbanzo bean soup filled with warm and inviting flavors along with the now famous curry mussels. I can’t wait to go back we were there in a quiet night but the idea of it bustling with a big group of friends and a band in the background sounds too good can’t wait!!
We’ve been eating at Frontier once or twice a year for the past few years and it has been enjoyable. However, on our recent visit, we tried a couple new menu items in addition to the tried and true dishes ( curry mussels and fish and chips are always good). The harissa buffalo chicken sandwich was sent back for being so spicy as to be inedible, and the ricotta gnuda with lamb sausage that should have been sent back for being bland and visually unappealing.
The final straw was the bill. $10 for an order of sweet potato fries?! $25 for the green and brown bowl of gnuda? With no drinks and no desserts our casual Sunday supper for 5 people was $180 with the tip for an overpriced, mediocre at best meal.
We all left disappointed and dissatisfied and will not be going back.
Food was a bit slow coming out of the kitchen. Worth the wait. Our server was fantastic.
Wonderful place to bring friends and see a movie. I greatly enjoyed the fish and chips!
Rice batter fish and chips is my favorite!!
I have celiac and have never reacted to any gluten free meals I’ve gotten here and have even had a meal returned as it was being served by the wait staff who realized the gf toast might have gotten cross contaminated on grilling. Yummy food and beautiful views of the river. Highly recommend.
I have eaten at Frontier many times and very much enjoy looking out on the Dam and the river. The food is excellent and the service is friendly and prompt.
A beautiful room, wonderful food, and without a doubt the best service we have received in the state of Maine in ten years.
Great gastrointestinal near Bowdoin.
Everything was wonderful. But especially the mussels
All very good except band playing meant conversations difficult to hold. Suggest live music begin later in the evening.
Such a wonderful spot to enjoy time with friends and share a meal. Loved that we were able to see a movie too.
Varied menu options for all ages/preferences. Unique and delicious cocktails. We will be back!
We had reservations for 3 but ended up meeting some family members for a drink, the hostess changed our table on the spot to accommodate our family. Excellent customer service, food and drinks were excellent. Our waitress was friendly and attentive.
What a nice surprise! The food was beyond fabulous and priced well. Atmosphere was unique having been placed in a repurposed mill. Staff were awesome. Great view of the river and dam. Can’t wait to come back.
Great food. Lively atmosphere.
This is a wonderful spot for lunch or diner and the food is great. I love the staff as well, and the bar is very creative.
For our table of 8 we ordered a lot of food and drinks. Most everything was perfect. The one miss was the Quinoa Curry salad- it may have been missing a dressing? It was only dry quinoa, a little greens, a few slices of red onions and not-so-great looking tomato chunks, and three teeny tiny pieces of lemon. It was pretty awful. Everything else was outstanding. The curried mussels are ridiculously good!!
They could use more tables since they are in a warehouse.
Delicious, creative food. I found it a bit pricey, but it’s worth it for the quality of food and the atmosphere.
The food was excellent, as was the service. The waitress made helpful suggestions when we were indecisive and asked her for her choice. We were not rushed, even though we had a table for 3 hours. I would highly recommend this place for food and atmosphere.
Frontier is our go-to restaurant for Brunswick. We love the atmosphere, the always-interesting artwork, and the menu. For vegetarians and non-veg, there is always a great variety of choices, and wonderful flavor combinations. Also, the drinks are great. One drawback--no dessert?
First time at Frontier, but won’t be the last! Loved everything about it (except location/entrance not clearly marked—poor signage!) love the space, the view out to the river, the photography exhibit, the service, the food. The Curry Quinoa bowl with grilled chicken added was fresh and delicious. I’ll definitely go again!
We so enjoyed ourselves in this open, happy space! Our waitress, Gia was so terrific, positive, attentive. The food was original and delicious. We also attended the musical performance after our dinner----such a nice treat. Fair prices------overall, such a delight!
We went early to avoid the crowds and were rewarded with a window table. Good food and service, will return!
Love the ambiance, view of the river, and general vibe. The food options are interesting and delicious. Service was perfect.
Great cocktails tasty food. A little on the hot humid side as the weather was unmainely @ 90 degrees
Courteous pleasant staff. Food is hard to beat.
Unique combination of 3 separate elements: restaurant, cafe and movie/performance space. Food is interesting and of high quality, as are cafe offerings, and the indie films presented often cannot be seen elsewhere in Maine.
