Had the best Brussels sprouts I've ever eaten in my life here!
I ate at Front Room for dinner after having had a filet at Del Frisco’a for lunch the same day and tried a bite of steak of one of my dinner companions at the Front Room. It was SO better! Better cut of meat, and cooked to perfection with a velvety melt in your mouth texture. My fish was fantastic as well.
we like the Front Room very much but we had a large group Sat night after the SMU Bball game and were very disappointed in the amount of time it took to get our food...our table of six got their food in a little bit more than a reasonable amount...our table of eight received most of our food considerably later and in staggers.....the waiter was pretty good about it but there must have been a problem in the kitchen......we had this happen about a year ago but it hadn't happened since.....some of our group probably won't want to come back any time soon which is a shame because other than that we always have a good time and we are pretty frequent patrons...thx
Steven was EXCELLENT. Very attentive, but also watched closely so he didn’t interrupt us every minute. He’d only come around during a break in conversation, the moment a glass was empty, or appetizers were done. He also had a sense of humor, which was wonderful.
Restaurant was very quiet, which was nice after a long day. Candlelit tables and quiet, but upbeat music. Food was excellent. Cacio e Pepe was excellent! Steven also had great wine recommendations based on description: “what do you suggest that isn’t too smokey or too dry. Nothing too intense.” From a list of everything international and domestic, he chose a wine which was perfect for my friend.
Wonderful service and DELICIOUS food! Brussel sprouts are to die for.
My main issue was that my ribeye was a bit cool...almost as if the steak had been sitting in the back for a while while the rest of the food was being prepared. The wine list was a bit small as well.
Food & ambiance exceptional. We've been coming to Front Room tavern for a few years now and it usually never dissapoints. The food is wow! I like the modern cool vibe there. This time, Christmas dinner service was lousy. Normally service is exceptional. Our server didn't have her act together. Problems began the moment we sat down. She asked if we wanted wine with our dinner and we told her we wanted a moment to decide. She removed a wine glass. Within a minute she came by to bring us water & removed two other wine glasses. My companion DID want wine but he was looking over the list. She came back by to see if we wanted to order an appetizer & reached for the last glass on the table. "Stop!" I said, "My partner wants to order wine, but you're taking the glasses away!" He ordered wine, I ordered a cocktail. We placed our appetizer order & dinner order. Wine comes out but no cocktail. 10 minutes later my cocktail arrives. 10 more minutes our appetizer (it was oysters on the half shell -I guess it took a while for them to shuck them?) Then the wait began 45 minutes in, we were still waiting for our entree. I ordered a hamburger and my two companions each ordered fish & chips. Far from complicated. Our waitress was nowhere to be found. We flagged down the matire'd and explained we'd been there an hour & had placed the order about 45 minutes earlier. She went pale. She came back and explained she saw the order was in the system but would make sure the manager knew about it. Enter Dylan: Effusive, charming, apologetic. He informed us that he would make sure our food would be cooked immediately. All the other tables that arrived after us already were midway through their dinner (they had a different server). The food is brought out: Only two entrees! 10 minutes later we flag down another server and the last plate is brough to us. Dylan apologized again. He comped a desert and one entree. Awful service, but a great manager. Dinner lasted over almost 2 1/2 hrs.
Thank you for being open for dinner on Christmas Day.
The restaurant was good, not great. Would definitely go back to try again.
It was very over priced for mediocre food. The food didn't even have a good presentation. The menu was small and nothing special. I was disappointed in the experience, considering how much I spent.
Overall the food and atmosphere were very good. We went these for Dinner prior to attending a basketball game at SMU. The service was prompt, the food was good and the drinks from the bar tasted great.
I wouldn't recommend this place for business as I suspect it could get a bit noisy if it were crowded, but the outside patio would be a great retreat for people watching.
Very very disappointed with the service. We have eaten at this restaurant many times during the past few years when in Dallas and thought it would be a perfect place for a post graduation lunch. The food was good when it finally came - the service was abysmal and ruined our celebration. The server couldn’t have cared less and the manager completely non responsive. Last time we will eat at this restaurant
Group of 4 for dinner again, great location for gathering and then attending SMU events. Three ordered burgers - rare, medium, and well - and they were happy with their meals. This was the third or fourth time I have ordered the vege meal of butternut squash and pasta over this year. The receipe has changed each time and, sadly, gone down hill. This time was the worst. Dish was mostly pasta that was hard with a few chunks of squash included -- all floated amidst an oily sauce I was told was made of from the squash. Being frequent patrons, we know there have been chef changes more than once. But, please, someone get a respectable vege recipe down that is appetising! We'll be back, but I will do salad or appetizer in lieu of dinner. Hopeful for change!
Service was subpar!. We went prior to a Tate Lecture at 6:30 and did not receive all our food in time. Had to leave by 7:45 and I ordered a salad! Crazy. We’ve been several times before...food is good but service has always been slow. Would not recommend going if you have a time constraint.
It was perfect meeting place to visit with a friend I have not seen in a while.
I love this place and have eaten here 4 times with a great experience every time. Great food, great vibe, great location in a beautiful boutique hotel. I have been easier on the last 2 times by John who is one of the best waiters I've had anywhere. He is professional, timely and thoughtful - present without trying to be the center of attention - by far the best service I've had in Dallas. Check out the Front Room Tavern - it is a truly great gastro pub!
Looking forward to new menu. Liked the old menu better. Love waiter John. He’s a great, friendly face that is always willing to go extra mile to make me, my wife and daughter feel welcome and accommodated. Staff is very friendly. Good menu of well-made cocktails. Atmosphere is upscale, but cozy.
I have been coming here for many years and have seen several changes. I have to say, the last few times I've been here, the food is just fine and the service is mediocre. This review was for dinner, we were 8 adults who all eat out a lot. When you sell a bottle of wine, at any price, it is proper to have the guests taste it, this did not happen. A few people in our group had the steak and commented it was too salty. We tried to order dessert and what we ordered was sold out so we decided to order the chocolate chip cookies; which we've had there many times over the years and the waitress touted to our group. They were sold out of the cookies as well so they gave us the molasses cookies, complimentary. They were tasteless. I'm not sure what is going on here but I go here for convenience from time to time and I'm going to change that.
On a separate note, I had breakfast here the next day and, as has happened the last couple of months, the service is VERY slow! It took 30 minutes from the time we ordered, to get tea and 20 minutes for our coffees. I know a lot of people that eat here prior to an appointment or on their way to the airport. This service is unacceptable. I'm disappointed that nothing has changed the last few months. I keep giving them a try, but I'm out of tries.
Brunch. Service was ridiculous... no one greeted our table for 15 minutes and finally the guy that seated us took care of us
Before football game dinner. “Catch” was excellent. Service was exceptional. Drinks well done.
We had a nice dinner before a lecture at SMU, and it was so convenient. Everything was almost lovely, but no five stars because one of my friend's steaks was too tough.
Loved it ! Great staff .
I was looking for a place for brunch. It had a nice patio. It is the restaurant at The Lumen hotel. We shared the bread plate and it was very good. The pancakes were fluffy and the maple butter was delicious.
Good Service, good food, good wine, good location, nice atmosphere. I would return!
Front Room was just OK. The waiter brought my husband the wrong first course and then my meal was sent back 2 times because it was under cooked. The food eventually tasted fine but it was not worth all the work for a decent meal.
We were seated timely with reservation, table was great.. with SMU graduation you were very busy but handled it pretty well.. kept us informed about the delay which is the way it should be done... two of our party had not eaten at the FR and raved about the food.. because of the delay the waiter comped the appatizers which was greatly appreciated... later we came back and sat outside for drinks which was fantastic... overall a great experience!!
Great atmosphere. Food only average.
We went for Mother's Day. They had a Prix Fixe Menu and never was I informed of that! They called on Friday to confirm my reservations and never mentioned it. The service was slow, food was not great for $50 pp. Other reservations were surprised, some left!! Disappointing!! Won't be returning!!
Very disappointed when looked at the menu options from Open Table and was completely different when we were seated at the Front Door and then was told by staff that it's the menu he gave us and nothing else! That should've been a red flag, but did not want to disappoint my daughter who had heard nothing but good things, boy that was a BIG MISTAKE!! Lesson learned, so watch out folks you need to call ahead if you are looking for a certain menu options and hopefully someone will be able to give you the right info!!
Made reservation for Mother's Day brunch. No crowd, nice atmosphere as the staff gave us run of the restaurant. Wait staff was very professional and appropriately attentive. Menu selections were good but not too big to make it hard to choose. Had the bread board, which was really good with fresh pasties, but the orange marmalade was puzzling as it was most orange peels and nothing else. Brunch selections could've been more generous, but was adequate for everyone. Ordered omelette, which was a little rubbery but had delicious roasted potatoes on the side and mushrooms inside. The migas were excellent. The burger was cooked properly, but requested another type of bun/bread but it came on the bun as on the menu, which was disappointing as we'd ordered something else and was promised an exception would be provided. Mimosas were delicious the atmosphere was wonderful as we'd sat on the intimate patio. Nice, hip atmosphere in Highland Park and across the street from SMU. Would recommend this restaurant to anyone for hipness, service great drinks andattentive service. I'm sure that the Lumen Hotel offers excellent service and accommodations as well.
Always a good meal at Front Room. It is a definite find in the area that is easy o snag a reservation for. Highly recommend for anyone in the area
We enjoyed breakfast with a group of eight on a Saturday morning. Our service was professional and attentive.
Our meals were very good, and the staff were extremely accommodating.
We went here for Easter brunch. The brunch menu online looked great and reasonably priced. But, we did not get a chance to order from that. After we were seated and ordered coffee, we were directed to the buffet. It was the only option, however, it was not advertised on their website, nor was I told this when I confirmed my reservation. It would have been nice to know it was buffet-only ($50/person) beforehand.
I made reservations for Easter brunch. The food was amazing. Omelette bar, prime rib, french macarons, (which were delightful),not your run of the mill buffet food. To accommodate our party, we were given a private room, which was an added bonus and very nice. We were not expecting a buffet and had chosen the restaurant because it did not say buffet on their website. I spoke to someone at the restaurant probably 4 times, and no one mentioned the buffet. We were not prepared for the cost, which seemed high. Communication needs to be better. Overall, it was great, and I will go back.
Good was great! Sat outside. Was nice once we asked for nasty floor covered in cheese and food from whoever was there before us was swept up.
This is the worst overall experience in a restaurant any of the four of us can remember. It will be very memorable because so many things went wrong. The frites were soggy, three of the main entries were poor and after waiting for our check for about 30 minutes with the staff having no idea how to get the computer to generate it, we left after each couple leaving a $20 tip becasue the service was the best part of a poor meal. We couldn't pay the bill becasue it could not be generated and we left with the approval of the staff. We will never return unless the management of the restaurant apologizes and they provide free meals for the four of us.
Walking distance from SMU. Great place to have a bite or drinks and appetizers before a show or program on campus. Only about 3 blocks from McFarlin Auditorium, the restaurant will valet your car and seem ok with folks coming back after show to pick up so long as you eat there. Food is always great - sometimes the servers seem spread a little thin when it's full, but drinks are refilled promptly and plates removed by roaming servers. It's also pretty noisy when full inside, great patio and probably quieter outside. Definitely recommend.
Had brunch with our college daughter and her roommate - and highly recommend this lovely restaurant just across from SMU. The food is always fabulous and creative and service is superb. We always make this a regular stop.
I often bring clients or potential clients to the Front Room for brunch. Historically, the ambiance, food and service has been outstanding. On Sunday, February--they seated my guest at the wrong table; the service was slow and disorganized; we sent the food back 3 times--overcooked; undercooked and incorrect order. Yes they deducted 12.00 from the bill--but that doesn't make up for the personal disappointment and professional embarrassment
Great food but tables are small and tightly placed together. Noise level just right. Not too loud. Definitely not private.
