We were told to seat ourselves despite having an Open Table Reservation. The restaurant was very quiet with an atmosphere that is low key and inviting. Unfortunately, the food was very mediocre that night. We started off with the artichoke and spinach dip which was nice. Of the four of us, two were very disappointed by our meals. The Chimichurri Chicken was cut very thin and it was overcooked making the chicken very dry with roasted veggies that were also cooked far too long. The Flatbread Basil Pesto Pizza was also extremely dry with an strong cilantro flavor - not basil at all. It had a dry soapy flavor that was unsatisfying - almost like holding a thin piece of soap in your mouth as punishment for saying a naughty word. Despite telling our server that the flatbread wasn't good (not eating it) and reordering a different meal instead - we were charged for that meal along with everything else. This may have been an off-night. The cocktails were made well. The vibe of Front Room Tavern is super cool and could have only improved with some mellow music to go with the candlelight and mod furnishings. I hope the chef takes the food off the grill a bit quicker and distinguishes herbs better when prepping food for future patrons.
No steak knife; tough steak; cold, tough chicken. This place has tons of potential, but we were really disappointed.
Had dinner after the football game. Great service and food!!!
Food was HORRIBLE. Menu reduced to bar food. Everything severely over seasoned with salt etc. order burger got a chicken sandwich.
The worst service I’ve had at a restaurant in SO long. Eaten here several times but this poor waiter must have been new. He forgot to put in our entree order. Food was taking forever so he brought out Mac and cheese which we didn’t order and neither of us could eat. After complaining, they said it was due to slow kitchen. But when food finally came, my short rib wasn’t even warm. We tried to be as nice as we could but it was beyond ridiculous.
Excellent ... great place for a quiet lunch ... service is excellent and the lunch menu is perfect
Horrible experience. They were short handed, the food was sorely undercooked (grits and pasta) and cold, and the service was slow. They were clearly not prepared for a busy night with a popular performance going on across the street at SMU. We even had an early reservation (5:00 pm). Sadly disappointed with the evening.
Disappointed at several things like having to request sugar with coffee and salt/pepper with the meal. They wouldn’t provide a piece of toast with a $16 omelette. Really? Won’t go back.
We want early at 5pm, 30 minutes prior to our reservation, got seated right away, great service and food.
Brunch buffet was terrible, cold food and very unhealthy options
Great location to campus for SMU graduation. Small but nice wine list. Our server,Amy, was excellent. Catch of the day and burgers were excellent. The spaghetti and flank steak were fair. Flank steak very tough. 3 pp ordered and all felt the same.
Service was incredibly slow for an empty restaurant
It was loud. Poor service. And my credit card not returned, and not found
So glad John (waiter) is back. All of waitstaff is terrific. Wish menu had some more basics/classics because I feel the chef tries too hard to make the menu too upscale. Customers in this neighborhood just want good food and drinks. Doesn’t need to be too exciting.
We’ve been to this restaurant before, so we are hoping that they were just having a bad night. The food was actually good, but they seemed short staffed. We waited to be seated. We waited to place an order. They forgot our appetizers and got our order wrong— unapologetically. Dinner took twice as long as it should have simply out of neglect. Even picking up our car proved difficult as the valet was doubling as the hotel check-in and bellhop. The cars were so backed up in the drive up that we were just given our keys and pointed in the direction of where they parked our car.
That being said, the food was good and it is certainly close and easy. Again just hoping they were having on off night.
Amazing food! We had brunch...omelet with all the fixings except tomatoes, and biscuits biscuit gravy was quite yummy, and liked the biscuit prep. Scrambled eggs were a surprise under the gravy, I might have asked on the side had I known, but were good. The hash browns were a revelation - crispy yet creamy. Fantastic cheesey grits on the side, along with good quality bacon. Nice cocktails and great coffee.
Service was very friendly but a bit sporadic...drinks showed up long after food, and a requested cappuccino was completely forgotten (though comped once discovered.
We'll be back!
An associate and I had a very fine lunch/meeting at the Front Room Tavern. The food and service were very good, we could hear each other without being overheard, and the space was quite contusive to a relaxed interchange of information.
Ask for John. Great service and a ton of fun. Gastro pub iconic with an impressive wine list.
You have a great location and good ambiance. Food is good. Your service is consistently inconsistent. My guests and I waited approximately 10 minutes before our server greeted us or told drink orders. No excuse for this.
Had onion soup and the rigatoni. Neither were anything special. The onion soup was almost sweet. And the rigatoni didn’t have much flavor.
OMG- my brunch buddy and I shared the everything (except red onion) omelet (bacon, cheese, herbsand more)and the pancakes. Both were extraordinary but I’d place my money on the pancakes- light, fluffy, accompanied by maple syrup, whipped cream and butter and fresh berries- very fabulous indeed!
PS the Bloody Mary was equally great. Our server was indeed a gift, appearing at just the right moments and leaving us when we were engrossed in conversation. Highly recommend the Front room
The Chef was accommodating in that he substituted duck for shrimp in the risotto entree for my wife who is deathly allergic to shrimp. The duck and shrimp (which I had) were very tasty. The risotto, however, was disappointing. It was dry and flavorless and not the variety of rice (Arborio) usually used in the Italian dish.
The oysters on the half-shell and French onion soup that we had as appetizers were very good.
Really good brunch and selections. Loved the ambiance.
Great fro brunch!
Tuna melt sandwich is great as is the coffee.
On our last visit to Dallas, we had the opportunity to eat at the Front Room twice - once for lunch and once for dinner. On previous visits, we have eaten at the Front Room and while we enjoyed the food, the service had really gotten bad (bad enough that we had even complained to the hotel management that something needed to be done, as it was reflecting on our impression of the hotel). Well, enough people must have complained, as the service for both of these meals was outstanding. For lunch, we received prompt service while enjoying nice selections such as Caesar Salad, Cobb Salad and the Power Lunch (half of a grilled pimento cheese sandwich with a side of their incredible french fries). For dinner, we had requested a table near the bar area (to watch the Cowboys game), and they literally moved a table right next to the bar for us! (This was while school was out, so a slower time where they could do this - probably not possible when kids are back in school when hotel is more busy.) So when we arrived to see the nice set up, we knew we were in for another great experience. All three of us were in the mood for something warm and comforting, but light, so we all ordered their Rigatoni pasta - a very light presentation that hit the spot. After dinner coffee was served in a coffee press (nice touch!) and the chocolate mousse for dessert was heavenly. It was so nice to see that they have their game back on and we look forward to coming back again on our next visit!
Third visit back to this great restaurant. The french onion soup, the shrimp scallop risotto, and burger were delicious . The waiter John was wonderful about dinner suggestions and wine selections.
Something has gone terribly wrong here. FRT used to be one of our favorites.
New year eve
We visited on Christmas Eve and had an exceptional experience. The wait staff and hostess were incredibly kind and accommodating and the food was outstanding. Made even more impressive by a busy holiday night. I can’t wait to come back.
Have been to Frontroom 3-4 times. This time was a disappointment due to the sorry service. Before we were there during holidays like this time and it was decorated. This time-no. Not a poinsetta or sparkle anywhere. Waited for valet, our cocktails and our waitress. It seemed like waitress was unable to handle her station, though we were there early and her only table when we arrived. I'm really tired of spending big bucks and being treated like I'm at a diner. Happens more and more....Train your staff, folks!!! No management on floor is usually the issue.
My family really enjoyed a beautiful meal after church on Christmas Eve. Thank you to the entire staff.
This is a great local eatery and cozy for friends staying in the Park Cities
First time here...the food was good. The service was slow, It was busy, but maybe more wait staff would have been a good idea. Our server was kind of surly...my friend ordered her hamburger well done and it came out medium rare...no one ever asked us if our food was ok...The French Onion soup was terrible...just a bowl of onions and 2 french bread croutons...no broth at all. To many other choices in Dallas.. Probably wont go back...
I hate writing this, because we loved Front Room on other visits. But this visit I had scheduled us at 5:30 reservation before a 7:00 show across the street at McFarlin. Should have been plenty of time. But after ordering almost immediately, we still did not have our food by 6:30 pm. That is an extensive amount of time for a charcuterie plate and two burgers. Once we said we might just have to leave, we had the food within five minutes.
The burgers were mediocre, and the charcuterie tray was terrible. Only a few things on it, poor flavors, not much variety.
The cocktails are amazing, however!
Had the fish of the day based on the waiter's recommended. For $24, I expected more than three bites, plus it tasted fishy (never a good sign). I've had better meals here in the past. Hope they can do better next time.
Blah food and service, walked into a completely empty restaurant and they put us at the worst table in the place. When I asked for a better table, she said those are reserved. Odd, since I had reservations too. Used to be our go to before Tate lectures. No more. Plenty of good restaurants near SMU
La comida es buena.
El servicio es bueno pero lento.
Es un lugar agradable, ambiente casual y relajado.
The tables for two were right next to each other, so we had to shout to be heard, but the food was quite good. I would say for the amount of food you get (I do not have a very big appetite) the portions were definitely on the small size. The prices were pretty high for the portions of food on the plate. Great food, just need a bit more.
Server and hostess were lovely and attentive. Great location for any function at SMU as it is across the street from the campus. The menu, although not huge does have something for everyone. My only disappointment was their Old Fashion as I could taste all of the ingredients but the rye! My advice, order wine. The brussel sprout salad was really nice and the French onion soup was good. My husband enjoyed the skirt steak. Over all, we would return.
