As regular diners at Callington Mill in Oatlands which is faultless we were quite disappointed with the food and experience. We know that they have just opened and hope that they can get to the same level that we are used to at the Oatlands restaurant.

We recently visited the Callington Mill restaurant at Macq01 with high expectations, given its prominent location and strong brand presence. While the food itself was satisfactory, the overall experience was let down by a noticeable lack of attention to detail. From the outset, the tone was set by the manager, whose ill-fitting suit and disengaged manner did little to convey professionalism or warmth. The layout of the space also felt mismatched, with furniture selections – particularly the chairs – not pairing comfortably or functionally with the tables, creating an awkward and impractical dining setup. The wine selection was also disappointing, especially by the glass. For a venue of this profile, we expected a more curated and thoughtful offering that complemented the menu and reflected the quality of Tasmania’s wine scene. Although the food was acceptable, it was not enough to counterbalance the shortcomings in ambience, service, and overall polish. In a competitive dining scene like Hobart’s, where many venues are lifting the standard in both service and presentation, Callington Mill fell short. Regrettably, it’s not a venue we will be returning to, and it’s hard to see it truly competing with some of the more refined and better-executed restaurant experiences available locally.

For a brand new venue it was outstanding. We had a lazy lunch for fit hours. Didn’t want to leave. Good was great, drinks amazing in the best whisky in Tasmania (world!) Can’t wait to go back

A truly wonderful experience that reminded us exactly why we fell in love with this place all those years ago. Our hostess, Lola, was outstanding—knowledgeable, warm, and genuinely passionate about the food, the wine, and delivering the best service possible. Her effortless approach to hospitality was refreshing and a real standout in today’s industry. Huge compliments to the chef and the entire kitchen team—the food was faultless, with each dish offering something unique. For us, the scallops, zucchini, and open steak sandwiches were real highlights. And to our new friend Luke and his partner—thank you for your incredible gift. We’re so grateful, and look forward to what we hope is the beginning of a great friendship. 😊🍸
