Frog & the Hen
Food is good. We had excellent service.
Food, service and ambiance were great! Had the Tuesday special, meatloaf and it was fantastic!
This was a great experience, with one glaring issue that actually caused us to not return while passing back through Augusta. The food is quite good—definitely above average, scratch made and fresh. The service is good, not great, but you can definitely tell that they are trying their best with a green crew. It’s also very reasonably priced. All in all, we had enjoyed our visit...until we attempted to buy a bottled water from their little retail area as we left. The young female behind the counter was gossiping with a friend, about ten feet away. She looked over at me, looked me in the eye, looked down at my water bottle and actually looked away, crossed her arms and landed back onto the counter and continued talking. I watched this for way longer than I should have, assuming that there must be something else going on—that I wasn’t being openly and glaringly ignored, but that’s exactly what it was. I won’t be back.
Yes, but if you ate near the front window on the west side, wear sunglasses.
Third time at the Frog & Hen and it only continues to get better. Highly recommended for casual dining or brunch in Augusta.
The chicken was raw. Biscuit and gravy was dry.
The food tasted ok, but nothing to write home about. The deviled eggs filling was so salty I had a hard time eating it, as well as the peri peri sauce, that was just inedible. The chicken was good, but I have had better ones from the rotisserie at the supermarket for half the price. My husband enjoyed his fish and chips. I had a very small Bloody Mary that cost $10, and I am pretty sure had about a 1/2 oz. of liquor in it. So, all in all, it was a fair experience, but I wouldn't take anyone there for a special occasion. They brought our entrees out about two minutes after our drinks and appetizers came, what was the hurry? Not very well timed. Guess they want to get you in and out. I think we were there for a total of 30 minutes. I didn't feel for $53.00 that was worth what I paid. Kinsey our server was very nice though.
The Frog and the Hen is amazing. All entrees very reasonably priced and we had plenty to take home. The Cheddar Biscuits melted in our mouths and the Macaroni and Cheese is as delicious as the FHT. I look forward to coming back again.
Not bad. Not expensive.
Overall the food was fine. This’ll make the fourth time we were there. The kitchen misstepped with the chicken, it came with jus instead of without. I had the feeling all they did was take it back and drained it. Still was too salty. The crackers that came with the pimento cheese were stale. Those went back and the replacement was not much better. However my husbands salmon dish was great. The waitress was fine. This was the first time we were disappointed. We were there early so the kitchen wasn’t rushed. Maybe next time will be better.
Love this place, this was my second time and was just as good as the first time
My wife had been to the Frog and the Hen for lunch and was pleased with the food and service. It was her birthday and she thought it would be different to go there for dinner.
Reserved a table for 2 for 6:30 and arrived at 6:15. We gave the hostess our name and said we were early for our reservation. We were pleased that she was able to seat us immediately despite the restaurant being busy.
Our server was friendly and efficient, and we ordered drinks and cheese biscuits which were excellent. The craft beer that I ordered was very good as was the Pinot Gris for my wife.
We ordered the Chicken Schnitzel for her and the fish and chips for me. The Schnitzel was very good and served in a bowl. My fish was 3 pieces served over potato wedges. Unfortunately, the fish was very disappointing and bland. First the breading was thick and heavy with some pieces so crusty that they couldn’t be eaten without damage to my teeth. The rest of the breading was thick and bland. The fish itself may have been Cod?, but it also was bland and flavorless. Seasoning with salt pepper and malt vinegar made it somewhat palatable. The potato wedges were flavorful except for one that featured a black mass that I cut out.
Although tempted to complain, I decided to stay quiet since it was a birthday celebration.
We were not asked if we wanted desert or coffee, only asked if we wanted additional drinks.
For a restaurant serving dinners, we were surprised that there was no attempt to create a comfortable atmosphere. The lighting was high, no candle or any decoration or covering on the bare tables.
After we returned home, we had a message from Open Table saying that we had not honored our reservation. We responded, and the next day received an apology.
Overall, this was a mixed experience. We may go for lunch, but I doubt that we will be going the Frog and the Hen for dinner.
Was very warm inside but other than that it was fantastic!
The salad came with our main course. Had cafeteria vibe.
Food was very good & prices are very reasonable. Would like to see some pasta dishes on the menu.
Go for the schnitzel. Definitely the schnitzel! And don't forget the cheddar biscuits. Always a great treat!
Great lunch. Chicken was yummy!
Great chicken and appetizers- reasonably priced 👍
Excellent food! Excellent service!
Meal was delicious. This was our second time here and we loved it. The staff are very nice and attentive. Love the chicken schnitzel.
Had the beer battered cod. Good news - bad news. Fish was excellent. However, the portion was disappointing. Three relatively small strips of cod for $17 ? Should be at least 5 imho for that price.
Excellent restaurant!! Good service and great food!!
This was my second time eating at the Frog and the Hen and had a wonderful meal. The deviled eggs are a great starter and everyone at our table ordered chicken, even though tonight was prime rib night. Again, all thought their selection tasted superb. In addition to the food, are selected cocktails were excellent, especially the rose sangria. I sure I'll be back soon.
Wonderful on every level! Can’t believe this place isn’t overrun with business. Best chicken ever! There version of egg rolls is fantastic..
Greek salad made with very fresh produce. Dressing good and salad had plenty of olives and feta cheese. Good value for $8.00.
Absolutely excellent food and some of the best service in town as always - great server! We'll be back often.
Ordered the half roast chicken with side of mashed potatoes. Also the cheddar biscuits. The food was good, but nothing special. The chicken was moist, but without the sauces, you get to choose 2 with your meal, it would have been only so so. The mashed potatoes were smooth, but seemed like they were made with broth not butter, they were not rich just smooth. Ordered the caramel apple bread pudding for dessert. My advice, don't bother. The bread is the cheddar biscuits which makes it really dense. The apples weren't crunchy or soft, just a weird texture.
I will go back, I want to try some other things, but I would not say it is anything special.
First time eating here; we had a ‘farewell’ luncheon for an employee and it was perfect. Everyone enjoyed it!
My only negative to this visit was that the food was not brought to the table for the total party at the same time. My friend had her meal at least 5 minutes before I got mine so she was uncomfortable. She hated to eat with out me but did not want her food to get cold.
Food was horrible, waffle was crusty over cooked and the chicken strips was burnt
This was my and my sister’s first time at Frog and the Hen. I heard people at work talking about it and thought it would be a good place to take her for her Birthday lunch. I was right. We had a great experience! The food was good and the service was great. We will definitely be going back. As a matter of fact, I have already made reservations to return.
Awesome food & service also. Loved the drink special which kept the total very reasonable.
Food overall was good. Crackers served with pimento cheese were slightly stale. My husband thought the breading on the fish and chips was too thick. I ordered avacado dressing with my side salad. Wonderful. The half chicken was juicy and not oversalted. We did not order desserts since they seemed more like snacks. I wanted a slice of pecan pie, not a “bar”. Overall a satisfying meal, we’ll be back for a fourth time to try more of the menu. Also, ice in my water would be appreciated.
Was hoping for a nice weekday dinner with my husband. Waitress was a bit cold and odd. Entrees arrived three minutes after our dinner salads. Restaurant does not serve name brand beer—only artisan that is a bit weird. Seems out if place for an establishment that serves primarily homecooked roast chicken, mashed potatoes, and meatloaf. Please offer some real honey mustard salad dressing as that honey dijon dressing is bitter. Restaurant doe not offer too many gluten-free options other than salad, chicken or salmon—and no gluten-free dessert to speak of—so disappointing after that terrible salad dressing and the weird wine and beer offerings. This place has potential but it needs some tweaking!
Server was great.
Chicken Schnitzel was very tasty to my husband and I in the beginning. But as we were finishing the other end of the meat was way over cooked Then I turned mine over and it was almost black.
Tasted wonderful until that. We did not complain to our server. Since we didn’t see that until we were almost finished eating.
I just regretted that the meat was turned over so we didn’t see it right away. If we had we could have asked for a recook.
We will still dine again.
It wasn’t the entire piece of chicken that was over cooked just one end of it.
We are so thankful to find a restaurant where we can comfortably eat gluten free without worry. Both my husband and myself have Celiac Disease. We felt well taken care of. Thank you for a wonderful meal!
Fresh, unique, & tasty food, friendly service, charming atmosphere.
The interior of the restaurant was not as romantic or personal as I expected it to be and there wasn't many options for dinner. The roasted chicken was pretty good but the Mac n cheese was not hot and the collard greens was sweet and spicy, which is not how I usually like it but our waitress was great and attentive. I would give it another try
Husband had salmon and it was perfect! I had chicken schnitzel dish and was surprised it was served as a salad In a bowl. Chicken on bottom and salad and potatoes on top! Because of this, it was cold. Meat could not be hot or it would wilt the salad and potatoes were cold mixed in the salad! I would have enjoyed more if food was served as side salad and potatoes and meat alone. Then it would have been served hot! The dish had a good flavor but I like my chicken and potatoes to be served warm! Dessert was delish! Hope they consider this as an option!
The food was delicious, and the service was incredible.
