Disappointing service. We were early and made to feel uncomfortable. A three to wed filled with a couple while another two top remained empty. Our party of three was finally seated after walk in’s got a table
Food okay but overall Very disappointing
Service was slow and cold. Food was mediocre at best. did not feel like staying more for dessert. Was so disappointed.
Very nice real European service. Fine Freck cuisine. Limited wine selections.
The tuna sandwich was excellent and was paired with a small salad and pommes frites. Yum!
We used to live down the street from this restaurant and it was great to see that 6 years later, it was still just as delicious and authentic French as it was then - with even some of the same staff! It's a precious gem, don't miss out!
Great service and food!
Fringales is always an excellent experience at a reasonable price.
Food was very good, the very high prices was the negative.
Best French bistro in San Francisco. Great dinner as always. This time we had vegetarians in our group and they really enjoyed the roquefort raviolis and the couscous veggie plat.
Birthday – – Great food and service.… It's a gem of a restaurant!
Fringale is one of my favorite lovely but not fussy San Francisco restaurants. The menu has some classics that appear most of the time but also seasonal items for each course. Cocktails and wine offerings are varied and appealing. Service is always good. And, if you are on the Peninsula, take CalTrain and walk the few short blocks to Fringale!
The food here is very reliable and the cassoulet was outstanding.
I love Fringale.
The food never disappoints !
Also love our server. She is knowledgeable and kind.
Best Tuna Burger and Duck Confit.
Fringale is always consistently civilized--lovely tablecloth service, quiet, excellent preparation of dishes. Unlike many SF restaurants, it is actually worth what you pay. It's been around for decades and doesn't follow the latest hipster craze.
Great French restaurant! Please support it during this never-ending, disruptive construction!
Always enjoy our meal at Fringale.
Was pleasantly surprised! Decor was beautiful and clean and cozy. Food was delicious and wine was spot on. Could not have asked for a better night..
This place is never busy and you can always get a reservation. The food and service is fine but nothing to write home about. The place is a bit low energy and could try harder in all aspects - especially in the thriving SoMa neighborhood.
We always love going to Fringale, our favorite French restaurant in SF. Relaxed casual atmosphere, delicious food, and a great value. Highly recommended!
We came here after seeing a matinee show; our reservation was early (5:30) and so the restaurant was not busy yet. However, within an hour the place was full! It is not a big place to begin with—it’s a delightful and cozy place that didn’t feel “stuffy.”
The bartender was quite generous with our cocktails! Our food was excellent—from the appetizers to the desserts, the four of us were not disappointed. Each of us ordered something different and none of us had anything bad to say about our dishes. Food was cooked well and so flavorful and the proportions were just right. All plates from start to finish were returned empty—we left no morsel behind!
While it was a bit difficult to hear and understand our server, he was attentive and friendly. Service was good all around.
It really was a perfect way to end our evening! This place did not disappoint! We are sure to return to this lovely restaurant...
Our first time here, a very nice evening. Cozy, comfortable. A full bar, so we had time to enjoy a cocktail to start and wine with our meal. We chose the prix fixe option $48 for three courses, a good value. Everything was very good. It's comfortable food, not cutting edge, but not stodgy either. The carpaccio and moules and frites were probably our favorites. The calamari a la plancha also very well prepared, the calamari properly cooked. Both desserts were very nice. Service was very good. All in all, a lovely night out.
Superbe and constantly good food
Yet another wonderful meal.
The food and wine at Fringale are excellent. The Roquefort and spinach ravioli is divine, the best pasta I've had in ages. The only quibble was that mid-way through our lovely meal pop music suddenly came on the restaurant speakers. It sounded like a French version of Madonna and was so out of synch with the elegant atmosphere, and louder than was comfortable for conversion, that members of our table and the one next to ours exchanged comments. The waiter turned it down but seemed unsure what we were objecting to. I prefer either music that complements the food - and is hardly noticed - or none at all. But that is a personal preference. We will return to Fringale!
Nice menu, not way too many options. Nice wine list, also curated like the food. Impeccable service.
Great service, great food, and great value. I always get the prix fixe menu. Three courses (with good sized portions) for $48.00. If you hate leaving a restaurant still hungry, then this is the place for you.
The food was great, even though they ran out of the sea-bass by 6:15pm. Two of us ordered it from the menu after our server recommended it and then she had to come back after going to put our order in and ask us to pick something else. We ended up with the Petrale sole and risotto and it was very good. The wine we had was French and A-mazing! The wine list is small though, not many choices for being in California. The table was small and cramped for 4 people. I'll bet this restaurant will be happy when the construction out front is finally finished. A good place for locals walking to it. Not great to park nearby or for Uber pickups.
We were looking for a place near CalTrain, for dinner after a matinee show, and had high expectations. The waiter seemed annoyed when we didn't orders appetizers, the Petrale Sole was very bland, the Seafood Basquaise was quite good. Prices were about 25% higher than sample menus on both Open Table & Yelp, which isn't cool. Two entrees and two glasses of their cheapest wine cost $100 bucks. Will not return, too many other good options.
This is one of the very best value restaurants in the city. It isn't cheap but when you consider the consistent high quality of every dish you can see you get your money's worth. Andre, the waiter we like to go to is almost, or just plain is, psychic. You expect a good waiter to come around at times throughout the meal enough times to make sure you aren't waiting for something, but not so many times that you aren't interrupted. Andre either has this balance perfectly or close enough that you'd think he's reading your mind.
The prawn appetizer is both terrific and yet not too much or heavy at all. The lamb and the scalloped potatoes are also real stand-outs but everything has been so good every time we've been there that I don't think you can go wrong. When you want to take someone out to a place that will be really special, this is definitely the place.
Superb...our waiter was gtacious well versed and kind...even got us a cab
Our second time at this restaurant and it is as outstanding as the first visit. The food is simply outstanding: creative and incredibly well prepared. Always excellent service. This time, because of a large conference in town, there was a delay in their having our table ready. I have never seen ANY restaurant handle the matter so well - so quietly and so gracefully. It is easy to see why they have a very loyal clientele.
Great menu of well-prepared, beautifully presented food. Something for everyone. French influence throughout the menu and delightful french staff. Love the small venue and cozy yet elegant ambiance. Always a go- to for a special occasion.
A fantastic French restaurant at a very reasonable price.
Service and food was excellent...owner stayed late to honor our 2:30 end of lunch reservation. We did not feel rushed.
Very relaxed. The onion tart was over the top. The service is so family style
Fringale has a warm neighborhood vibe. The food is fantastic—varied menu, creative and beautifully plated. The service was professional and friendly. It goes to the top of our list for San Francisco restaurants.
Always an excellent meal and value.
If you are in SF and have the opportunity to eat here, you owe it to yourself not to miss it!
The service was outstanding! And so very very French. The food was divine. My sole was only a tad disappointing, but may have just been my personal taste. EVERYTHING else was divine. Classic French cuisine with a bit of a California twist. They will boom again when that construction is finally finished. IT's worth the schlep around the future muni line construction. LOVED IT!
Great customer service from start to finish! Lovely having the foreign touch with all servers fluent in French!! My server was very attentive and accommodating
