My husb n I love this place. The servers are very friendly and we are always warmly received the minute we set in the restaurant. It's not a very large dining room but its cozy. Food is not contrived or fancy but reliably good n beautifully presented. Attentive service.
As good as the service was, and as welcoming as the space is, the food did not sparkle as it usually does. calamari was too small and too many little rings rather than tasty legs; frisee lacked flavor (lemon? mustard?) and the ribeye too fatty. Same cook?
We had three entres - fish stew, duck, and sole. All were prepared well, though the duck was a bit dry. The fish stew might have benefited from a stronger spice but was tasty nonetheless. The sole was prepared nicely with a nice sauce. Side dishes of spinach (with light blue cheese) and potatoes au gratin (with light cheese) were perfect. The corn soup starter was perhaps the best we have tasted in 40 years of dining out. The starter raviolis were delicious, full of mushroom with a substantial classic sauce. The apple tarts and flourless cake deserts were OK but nothing special. We brought our own champagne and red Bordeaux; corkage $25. Service was very timely and engaging. The meal was served without excessive waiting between courses, though enough to let the previous course have its moment. Total price with 20% tip was $321. We think this was just a tad on the high side, and probably would be less if an Oakland or other less pricey habitat. But San Francisco is the expensive venue it is, so C'est la Vie.

Wonderful dinner and service. My dinner had authentic lentil from France which raised the quality of the dish. Jazz was great as well!
Certainly the best restaurant in SOMA/Mission Bay and one of the best in San Francisco. Sauteed prawns is the best anywhere-just make sure you have enough bread to finish the sauce.
Fantabulous, as always. We have our usual order, but always find a delightful surprise among the special menus selections. Service is outstanding.

Typical French bistro ambiance with excellent food. Fast service, a limited menu but offering a good variety of appetizers and French dishes. Always fresh and we keep returning. A little jewel on 4th street!

Great food. They were able to help us add people to our reservation, the day of. We had 10 in total. Food came out all at once and was hot and delicious. Drinks were great as well.

We went to Fringale to celebrate our wedding anniversary last week. It was the 3rd time we'd been there, so we knew the food would be outstanding. This was the first time the restaurant was so full, however, so we were a little surprised to see how crowded it was. It's probably why our service was a little more perfunctory than it had been before; it took 2 requests before our waiter would come take our appetizer order. This particular waiter is not especially friendly, but once we were served he was attentive and timely. The food, as always, was outstanding. We started with a trio of cheeses served with fresh bread, fruit paste and apples; one of us had the night's special coq au vin, one had the lamb chops, and our petite daughter had the appetizer of shrimp and cherry tomatoes in a pastis sauce. We all loved our courses and would not have changed anything about them. The martini's were also excellent - a generous pour and prepared the way we'd asked. For dessert we shared a warm tarte tatin with vanilla ice cream - so good! The construction on 4th street right in front of the restaurant can make getting there a little challenging, but (so far, at least) there is plenty of street parking nearby as well as parking lots (best avoided on "event nights" where they charge a flat $30). We'll continue to make Fringale a favorite restaurant when we're looking for an excellent meal with French preparation.
Halibut and pork tenderloin were outstanding. We shared 4 desserts and all were top notch. Very happy with the wine. One member on our party had a traditional manhattan and was very satisfied. We'll be back.

We have been dining at Fringale since the mid-90's. It is our go to every time we visit San Francisco. Beautiful food and service. Reasonably priced. Don't miss this gem!

Went there with a party of 8 - everyone was raving about their food. Everyone finished all on their plate.
Service was attentive and complete and value was good. It isn't inexpensive, but when value and service are this good, the price is - secondary.
The food here is very fresh, clean, and delicious. This is a very traditional French restaurant with excellent service and a nice selection of traditional bistro food. I had the lamb which was fantastic along with the frisée and blue cheese salad. My dining partner had the hanger steak with fries and a special beet salad both were very fresh with lots of flavor. A wonderful experience and I would certainly recommend it. The prices here are moderate to high so expect with wine and tip to drop around $100 a person.
Overpriced. Food is really low quality for what the restaurant charges and appears to be. Portions size was small. Duck was dry. Waitress wasn't nice, but borderline rude.
Amazing food and phenomenal service!!!
Homey with elegant, authentic French cuisine. We arrived earlier than our reservation and they graciously sat us anyway. The server handled several tables with aplomb. We had the charcuterie, sautéed calamari and spinach Gorgonzola ravioli. Dessert was an upside down apple tart. It was perfect!!
Second time we have eaten at Fringale. Anytime we are in San Francisco, Fringale will be high in our list of places to go.
I never miss an opportunity to dine at Fringale when I visit San Francisco. It is a real gem - the food is delicious and the service warm , welcoming and helpful. A great experience!
We had an excellent dinner at Fringale. For appetizers we tried the prawns in pastis with cherry tomatoes and a special salad with prosciutto, arugula, orange and shaved Parmesan. Both were excellent and we hope the special salad will be on the menu the next time we eat at Fringale. It is a perfect summer salad! For entrees, we tried the rack if lamb and the steak with red wine butter. Both were excellent. We can’t wait to go back to Fringale.
