After sitting vacant for a few years, we renovated the former “Lord’s Chapel” building just down the hill from Michigan Street’s Medical Mile corridor into The Friesian Gastro Pub. In addition to having a full bar, we serve up comfort food with an eclectic twist.

The Friesian accommodates seating for over 80 people inside (including our unique centrally-located bar), and when the weather warms up we will open our 20-person back patio and 50-person rooftop deck – a first for Michigan Street!

The Friesian is co-owned and operated by local restaurant industry veteran Craig Jones, along with co-owners Zan Lamkin and Phil Rienstra. All three owners live in Grand Rapids and are excited to bring a gastro pub with a fun atmosphere and great menu to the Midtown Neighborhood.

We intend to change the menu regularly with some globally-inspired selections, but not stray too far from what you’d expect in a neighborhood gastro pub. So you’ll have to keep coming back to see what’s new.

The food and service was absolutely amazing. The staff was so friendly and knowledgeable, they were genuine and made us feel very welcome. One of the owners even stopped by to check on us. Would highly recommend for any occasion.

An excellent place for a Saturday brunch. They had a few vegan options and offer gluten free options as well. It was quiet because most were sitting on the roof. The vegan nachos were good, but the portion size is enough for two people. My friends both enjoyed their sandwiches.

Good experience overall. Being a server in the past, I try to give the benefit of the doubt. I believe our server was the only one in front of house other than the bar staff but still took 15 minutes to get drinks. We were there for a birthday so timing didn't really matter but we were there for 2.5 hours and I got 3 drinks. Would have gotten more but just wasn't asked for them.

Excellent food and service for Sunday brunch. We sat in the rooftop and had a large group. Our server was great! It was dead there, so I hope they get customers and keep serving weekend brunch!

Our overall experience was ok. Food was good but unexceptional. Our waitress was doubling as a bartender and the wait time for the food was long. We had a total of four appetizers and were there for almost two hours. Forty minutes into our visit we only had drinks. One of those visits where your not sure if your coming back or not. It was a decent value for what you received but a meal you could have gotten pretty much anywhere.

Wait staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Excellent drinks upon her recommendation. We loved the spicy calamari. Falafel sandwich was vey good. The drunken noodles had great flavor but I would have preferred a little more sauce and perhaps a side of siracha.

The patio and drinks were good. I was slightly disappointed with the lack of flavor in the wonton soup and drunken noodles. There was not enough salt and pepper. Joe, our server, didn’t right our order down which caused him to bring out the wrong items twice.

I wish I could remember the name of our server because she was wonderful. We sat upstairs and the ambiance was perfect. The food was amazing. The Cabernet was the best I'd ever had. I took a pic of the bottle even - Maddelena. Highly recommend Friesian Gastro Pub and the wine!

Nice place! The food and cocktails were great! Moderately priced, and interesting variations that were executed nicely! Although we didn’t sit out back, they have an incredible outdoor seating area. The inside was quaint, but nice! The only flaw was the service, but I don’t believe this was due to the quality of the staff, but rather the shortage. The staff was knowledgeable and friendly, but just not enough to handle all the customers.

The Friesian is our go to summer spot for a nice night out! The roof top patio is perfect for a beautiful summer evening. The adult slushies are delicious, but the blueberry gin fizz is hands down the best drink on the menu! The food is always amazing and never disappoints. If you're looking for a new place with great vibes and a fun atmosphere, this is the spot!

While the food was delicious, I ordered the chicken wing appetizer and it was plenty of food, the service was not exceptional. We were waited on by a waitress on the rooftop patio. Because of how busy it was, I assumed it would take awhile to be served. However, when she did approach us, she wasn’t exactly friendly and seemed very straightforward and direct about grabbing our orders. Throughout the night, she wouldn’t stop directly at our table, but instead walk by and half caringly asking how the meals were.

Popped in for our 19th anniversary for a laid back meal and left feeling great. Food was amazing!! Sesame ginger wings, double smash burger, asparagus salad with a side of steak, pistachio cherry tart and Vietnamese crème brûlée ALL wonderful Wouod highly recommend this perfect little place packed with amazing vibes Oh and BTW their adult pineapple slushee was the BOMB!! the best mojito I’ve ever had Thx for a great time

I went to the Fresian with my SO for an impromptu date night. What attracted us the most about this place was the aesthetic and the rooftop which we got to sit on. My SO and I ordered two cocktails: the slick shoes and the adult slushee with a bubbly topper. Both cocktails were good and very served very cold! For food we did the truffle fries and wings. Again, food was also very good! Unfortunately, the service was mid. Our server took a while to greet us and never checked in on us after our food arrived. I had asked her for some condiments and she never brought those over. We didn’t receive silverware or napkins either which I had planned to ask when the server came to check on us. By the time the server came over, we were done and weren’t craving any entrees so we decided to go elsewhere. Overall, I’d be back again but hoping for the service to be a little better!

Great atmosphere. Server was a delight. Unfortunately the food was quite greasy. The hash browns appeared to have been previously frozen and fried and were sitting in a small puddle of oil on my tray. We all wish we would have liked our food because we really liked the venue. It’s ended up being just too “heavy” for our tastes.

Absolutely phenomenal, per usual. We had the Crab Stuffed Shrimp and Shaved Asparagus Salad to start followed by the Spicy Tofu and the Drunken Noodles. I was DELIGHTED at the spice level involved in the tofu dish… thank you for that!! Everything was beautifully prepared and the flavors were balanced and delicious.
