The Friends Lake Inn restaurant offers their guests two different choices for their dining experience. The man dining room creates a fine dining experience. Featuring organically grown and locally sourced ingredients, the seasonal menu might include a starter including a pan seared foie gras. For the entree, a diner at Friends Lake Inn can choose from a spring cioppino made with sea scallops, Maine lobster and mussels.
For a more casual experience, there is the Tap Room. Here guests will find an Adirondack rabbit stew or a Sheppard's pie to their liking. The Friends Lake Inn Tap Room features regional microbrews to compliment its menu. There are also occasional "beer pairing events," which includes five courses of food paired with the perfect microbrew.
My wife and I cannot wait to come back.
Was really disappointed, our waiter was great but it took forever for our food and when we did get it it was not as good as we have had in the past
The lobster bisque and turkey and rabbit stew were so delicious! Our meal wasn't rushed-the roses, lit fire, and candles added to the ambiance. Our servers were friendly and profession. It was a perfect evening.
The Inn is secluded and very well maintained. The rooms are spotless and incredibly comfortable. The entire staff seemed to go out of their way to make out stay as relaxing as possible. Although it has to charming feel of a B&B or lodge, it is equipped better than a top tier hotel with far better service and unmatched privacy. Although it's not a massive resort we managed to spend an entire long weekend at the inn and never see any other guests aside from in the dining room. The chef went far out of his way to accommodate my partner's food allergies and the quality and taste did not suffer in the least. I would highly recommend the Inn for a romantic getaway, special occasion or just a wonderful night of dining. Their wine cellar is well stocked and they have something for all tastes. We will be making this spot an annual get away and visit from time to time for dinner. We have already recommended it to several friends and excpect to hear similar reviews from their stay.
If you are on the fence, there is no need. The Inn is more than you will expect and all you desire.
Enjoy!!! We did.
We had reservations for 7:30, arrived early, checked in with the hostess and went to the bar to enjoy a cocktail. Busy in the bar and took a while for the bartender to take our order as he was serving tables in the bar area. Our cocktails were excellent. Went to be seated in the dining room and sat at a table for 2 in front of the fireplace (which was not on). The waiter appeared and told us the specials and gave us a wine list and then became fairly busy serving other guests. The dining room was not at capacity and other guests who were seated after us were being waited on prior to our waiter returning. When the wine we ordered arrived I noticed it was not the bottle we had chosen before he opened it. The waiter eventually brought our second choice. Outstanding selection of wines although we were cautioned that not all were necessarily available. At this point my husband was becoming somewhat anxious and was feeling like we were being ignored. Once our wine was opened, we both ordered Lobster bisque as an appetizer which was great. Curiously it had a lobster ravioli as the lobster meat for the dish. I ordered the seafood ciopiano which was served out of half an acorn squash shell along with some delicious risotto. The meal was excellent! My husband ordered the NY Strip steak special which was accompanied by shrimp which he also really enjoyed. For dessert we ordered the banana's flambé which we loved. We will definitely return, hopefully they will increase their number of wait staff. The wine, appetizer, main course and dessert were excellent!
My wife and I recently got married and spent our honeymoon at Friends Lake Inn! This place is amazing, the food, the atmosphere, the people, everything was perfect! We will be telling everyone we can about our experiences at Friends Lake and are already looking to go back for our anniversary. The entire 3 days that we were there we did not have a meal that we didn't like. Everything was cooked to perfection and entrees like the wild boar pulled pork burger and the venison chop were out of this world!
Beautiful room, very classic fine dining experience. Filet was perfect. Duck was wonderful, as were all the sides. Wine list as large as a phone book. Bananas Foster made tableside was a real old-school treat! Service was outstanding.
Dinner was an absolute disgrace. To use the words fine dining is laughable. The breakfast delivered to the room the next morning was ( I kid you not)..frozen precooked "French Toast" from I'm assuming the Restaurant Depot. They could not or would not dip real bread into a real egg? The best thing I ate there the entire weekend was a drop apple from the property.
Pretty place. 30 minute drive from Queensbury.
Worth every minute.
Great food and service
excellent wine list.
Looking forward to heading back to the Adirondacks to have dinner here again.
Great service with amazing food, can't go wrong here.
Every dish was delicious. Mixed Green salads, bean appetizer and ravioli appetizer were devoured. Entrees of seafood cioppino and filet mignon were perfect. Not a drop left on anyone's plate. I only wish I'd had room for dessert!
If you are staying at the inn there is absolutely no reason to go anywhere else for dinner. If you are not staying at the inn and don't mind driving to a hidden location then this is the place for you. The food is very good, the service is exceptional, the full bar and extensive wine list make dinning at the Inn a great experience.
An absolute, elegant gem in a place that has very few elegant restaurants. Service was impeccable and the food perfectly prepared. Even a simple salad had unusual and fresh ingredients. There was noticeable change in the menu and improvement since our last visit, which although good, was not the same. Bravo for reclaiming earlier excellence!
THe food was not good and very expensive. The dishes lack flavor and were served cold. Our waiter was excellent, but the good service could not detract from how bad the food was.
The menu was varied and time was allowed to make choices. The server was well informed. The inn is lovely and the food was interesting and tasty.
We dressed per the web site suggestion of busInes casual and were surprised to see people in cut off shorts ordering sliders from the bar menu in the main't din in room. Perhaps because it was Father's Day, all were welcome. This was not a big deal for us, just an observation.
The check total for 2 adults and 1 child was $193.00. This was just a few dollars above what I expected.
Overall a good experience.
Our stay was wonderful great waitresses, great bar tenders and great waiter. People were more than accommodating to our request for added time before leaving. To allow for easy return to Long
island. Wonderful visit.
Stayed at this Inn and purchased the dining option which included a three course dinner. Limited menu assured quality food. Our waitress and waiter on each evening were both well trained, helpful and attentive. Mind you, it was not busy, but the food came timely but not hurried. Salads of greens with fruit and nuts were both plentiful and fresh. Entrees of seafood were well presented and delicious. The one chicken dish was the least memorable.
For desert, we tried the creme brulé and sorbet which are homemade. Nice endng. They add an 18% gratuity which is OK but I felt adding more was warranted. If your in the lake George area try it for a higher end non touristy experience. Plus the wine cellar offers more wines than any restaurant in the region.
We have enjoyed Friends Lake Inn for 30 years, from it's more humble beginnings through it's transformation to a top notch Adirondack gem. New owners took over about a hear ago and have continued the tradition of excellence in ambiance, service, and cuisine. We ate in the main dining room and were very satisfied with the lobster bisque, fillet mignon and the seafood medley. The shrimp, mussels, lobster, and scallops were complemented by a medium spiced sausage that gave a rich compliment to the taste. Don't miss this place on your visit to the area!
Grossly overpriced. Pretentious. Dark depressing room. Help is mediocre at best and not confident, and made bush league mistakes. Really- $40 entrees- I want $40 service and food quality. Scallops in cioppino not seared. Mashed potatoes not riced- a gluey mess. And bananas foster undercooked and flavorless. All very disappointing.
Dined at Friends Lake Inn last weekend. We had not been there for a number of years and , although it has not changed much, the food is much better --- but pretty $$ fgor the Dacks. I had a nice starter of braised kale --- but seriously , $11.00????. My wife had a scallop and lobster taco-like item that was good --- but once again $17.00!!! Entrees included serviceable salmon; exccellent Cioppino and a killer Venison Osso Buco ---- but that was either $38 or $43. ( either way , for the dacks, steep). On balance a good meal, but you can certainly have wonderful dining experiences in the Adirondacks for a lot less!
The Inn is on it's third owner since my wife and I first went there. We've always enjoyed it, it's one of the best restaurants in our area, and we go there often for special occasions. This past weekend it was still good but not up to what i generally expect. First, the menu was a bit average without some of the higher quality dishes they usually have. Secondly, the filet of beef I ordered was more rare than the medium rare i ordered. I should have sent it back but, for whatever reason, I didn't. My wife enjoyed her vegetarian entrée. Lastly the salad was simply not that great. Service was good and the rest as well, just not what I've come to expect.
love the real wood fireplace .... great spot
needs handicap access
This is a difficult review and rating. I have wanted to go up to the Inn for many years and my wife and I finally arranged a quick overnight trip. The Inn itself is very nice and well kept. Our room was clean, spacious and comfortable, but on a cold late November day the fireplace in the lounge area next to our room was not on nor did the the front desk know how to turn it on. Our dining experience was a 'mixed bag'. There were 2 servers, a bus person and a hostess handling 5 or 6 tables, it seemed sufficient but after waiting literally 30 minutes without any attention other than water being pored, I flagged down the hostess and let her know we were ready to order and please send our server over. Several minutes later a server, I believe not the one who was assigned our table, came over and then provided exceptional service. Salads were good, wife's fish was watery and bland while my smoked pork chop was very good. Desserts were excellent.
We probably will not return and would not likely recommend.
This is a nice place to go for a fancy, romantic dinner. The ambience is calm and relaxing, country but elegant. Many people were dressed casually, even in jeans, but you could also dress nicer and feel comfortable. There were a few children, but they were well behaved. Definitely not a place to take a loud family. The wine list was extensive and expensive. The menu is small but has a enough variety and the portions are medium size. We had a seafood dish and salmon, and both were delicious. Service was excellent.
Our dining experience was great and the food was delicious!
Excellent view and beautiful vintage, country setting. Very romantic. Perfect for the fall weather and scnenery.
We have been customers of Friends Lake Inn for many, many years and this last visit was disappointing. The service was adequate but lacked the polish we had come to enjoy in the past. The food was unmemorable. The Smoked Strip Steak, tougher than average albeit, the flavor was quite good. the Filet Mignon... unimaginative served on top of mashed potatoes and definetly not Prime. The cheese platter contained, as one of the pieces, the rind of the Manchego cheese. When asked the waiter about it the respose was: "Some people eat it"...really?
The prices have gone up, and the food/service down. Hopefully, they will get their act together and continue the tradition of excellence the Inn has always being famous for.
It had a been a long while since we had the pleasure of dining at Friends' Lake Inn and the food and atmosphere were even more perfect than we remembered. The only difficulty we encountered was selecting one bottle of wine from the incredible wine list. We will be certain not to wait long for our next visit. This is a gem!
Excellent food, amazing friendly service, out of this world wine list, old school adirondack decor, fantastic all around and highly recommended.
It was our anniversary and we were treated like royalty.
Excellent way to celebrate our anniversary. The Halibut entree was all one color in presentation (white) and was very bland in flavor.
Made our 25th Anniversary special in so many ways including special printed menus and dessert plates that said happy anniversary
Perfect choice for dinner with visiting guests from the city after a day of rafting and hiking. Salads and duck were perfect as was the vodka gimlet.
Friends Lake Inn never fails to hit the mark. Despite being "lost in the woods" it remains charming and impeccable. While the menu was not as exotic or unusual as in the past, the quality cannot be beat. Excellent food, perfectly prepared is a hallmark here.
New owners doing an excellent job. Wine list is super, especially by the glass. Will be back in the ADK in several weeks and expect to do at least two dinner there.
We brought two couples to Friends Lake on Saturday night expecting a fine dining experience. Unfortunately, we were all disappointed. We had to ask for bread. Five appetizers were served when the sixth was no where in sight. Having good manners, we all waited for our friend's appetizer to arrive causing the soups to get cold. They were removed and replaced with new hot ones, causing even more of a wait. Wine glasses were not refilled. They were out of one of the specials and we were told not to order the Bananas Foster (one of their dessert specialties) because the bananas were not ripe. None of this should have happened on July 4th weekend! I'm sure they expected the crowd they had - I know our reservations were made weeks in advance!
I've been coming to this place for over 10 years, it recently went to new owners and changes seem to be coming, it's a great restaurant and the food is excellent - Sometimes, I wish they offered a larger selection but each dish offered is excellent quality. Be aware it's not for everyone, it's what some could consider expensive.
Enjoyed my first trip to Friends Lake Inn but it won't be my last. Terrific food, good service, and beautiful setting .... pretty much in the middle of nowhere. Upscale for the area but great for special occasions!
We enjoy going to Friends Lake Inn a few times a year. The food is superb! We were lucky to go on Friday, the first day of the summer menu. From the antelope to the seafood to wonderful desserts. Another spectacular meal. We wish Maggie all the very best as the new owner - may many smiles come in to your Inn.
Recently dined at the Friends Lake Inn for the first time, meal was superb despite the quiet Monday night. Very impressed with the service, quality and presentation of the food, and of course, the wine list. Make sure to check out the wine cellar and shop in the basement, well done!
