Friedman's is a family run business, which operates locations throughout New York City. Friedman's was named after the famous economist Milton Friedman who popularized the phrase, “there ain’t no such thing as a free lunch”. To put it simply, “to get one thing we like, we usually have to give up another thing we like.”

Our mantra is simple, “Eat good food” and this is what we strive to deliver to our guests. For us, it has two meanings. Firstly, eat food that tastes good. Secondly, be proud of the food you serve. We know where our food comes from. We communicate regularly with our farmers and are proud to serve antibiotic free meats & local vegetables. Our mission is for you to love, respect, & enjoy, not only the food you serve, but also the team you work with.

A few things. When we arrived we asked for a booth. The booths were all empty. We were told that they were only for people with reservations (we had reservations) and for parties of 4. Shortly after we were seated (crammed in between two other tables) they filled the booths with parties of two. So that wasn't a great start. The food was ok. One of my eggs was completely burnt and my toast was cold. It was resolved quickly but it was still annoying. I had to ask for coffee constantly (isn't that a "given" when you are having breakfast at a restaurant - that you get coffee refills?). The space is airy and overall it was just fine. I just expected more and better,

The server gave us the bill without giving us dessert options and then said it was too late for dessert and they turned on the lights to get us to go

My mistake was thinking Friedman's could replicate their Lower East Side location...in Midtown. Instead, it was just very midtown. It's really too bad, because the area could use a bit of the vibe happening in their other location, which I still really love.

My hanger steak came out cold along with potatoes and strinbeams. Sent it back and came out lukewarm. Taste of steak was fair. Not going back again to this restaurant.

We loved our experience at Friedman's. Classic NY diner with a Jewish deli flare. Portions are large and fair for the price. Consider sharing a few items to get a little bit of savory and sweet. Coffee was great and service was very friendly.

Good and economical place to eat (for NYC!) for both gluten and gluten-free diners

We were asked if we wanted refills of our iced coffees. That usually means it is complimentary. When we saw we were charged we didn't argue it for long. But it was not right. We should be asked if we need another drink; not a refill. Otherwise it would have been a perfect meal!!

What a find. I don’t even care that it’s mostly gluten free, the food is delicious! Had the Smoked Salmon Benny, Avocado Toast, French toast and Chicken soup. All were gorgeous and so tasty. No weird textures, just straight yummy. Sat right on time in a comfy booth. The coffee was especially great. Fresh oj, and even the fruit was exemplary Our server was delightful and attentive as we needed her to be on a crazy busy Saturday Y’all RESERVE your table, especially your a party of ten!

I’ve been recently diagnosed with celiacs disease and have been trying to find a restaurant in NYC that’s safe enough for me to comfortably eat. Friedmans entire menu can be made gluten free and it was all SO delicious, and the staff were very understanding and careful with the food. Really pretty place, with nice staff and amazing food would reccomend!

Arrived early and got right in, the place was empty, but it was around 4pm. Reservation was made online for 4:45. There were 2 adults and 3 teens. We had a 7pm show so this was great. I asked if they did anything for birthdays and I got a blank stare, such a weird reaction, but they did do a candle, which was perfect. Surprised because later I saw them bring out a cake with candles for another table. Food was served fast and plenty of staff available. Entrees were good, not great. 3 ordered burgers, which were not a hit. 1 ordered the grilled cheese, very good, 1 ordered chicken entree, which was ok, kind of bland. Appetizers, mac & cheese balls and sweet potato fries were deelish, we actually ordered more before finishing the first order. Brownie dessert and cc cookies were very good, we left nothing! Yes, waiters were attentive, but it was odd that there was no umph, kinda lacked any personality from the staff. Nothing wrong, just seemed off from beginning to end. If you’re looking for a lively fun restaurant, this is not the location for you. If you want decent, with some great food, fast service, give it a try! Just being honest…we ate, all were stuffed and happy in the end.
