Service was outstanding. Knowledge of the menu was impeccable. Could not have been more polished. The food was incredible. Perfect date night restaurant.
Delicious, creative food, beautifully plated. Wonderful service and the cocktails were awesome.
As always, it was amazing!!!
5 Star restaurant- outstanding
This place is awesome. Every dish we ordered was incredible- especially the spaghetti. Our server was very charming. We loved it! The cocktails may have been a tad over priced, but they’re also inventive and original.
Great experience! Amazing food! Must go place
Amazing food! We had the shrimp cocktail, octopus, Brussels sprouts, mussels toast, panna cotta and brownie. Shrimp cocktail was ok, the octopus had a great texture and was smoky and the pinto beans complimented it. Brussels sprouts were good but not memorable, mussel toast was tasty. For dessert, I was in heaven eating the brownie! I would order that over and over again! My husband liked the panna cotta; I thought it was good but loved my brownie more.
Our meal this time was not as good as usual, but that was probably because of our selection of dishes, not because of the quality of the food. First, the good: superbly made mixed drinks; perfect oysters; wonderful crispy lavash arranged in soft whipped butter, with a very light wash of honey and fennel ash - a wonderful combination of flavors that play off each other. It's lovely to have something other than the usual bread that just fills you up. The brussels sprouts were also excellent. The less impressive (to us): mussel toast, where the mussel flavor is drowned out by toasted bread; the sweetbreads, which were breaded and fried, then placed between two pieces of toasted bread - the main thing one could taste was bread and breading. it's not that it was bad - It's just my taste. I would have liked more creative pairing of the sweetbreads with something else, perhaps something a bit sharp or tangy or citrusy, that would play up the sweetness and smoothness of the sweetbreads. All in ll, still a lovely evening and a good meal, just not quite as superb as the previous meals we have had at the new FSS. We have now sampled just about all the small plate offerings the restaurant has, and so have a good idea of what works for us, what doesn't.
Love fits ya Saturday Sunday. Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. Ambience was lively while remaining intimate. Perfect place for a romantic birthday dinner.
Really enjoyed birthday celebration there! Food was amazing and the service was awesome! Thank you for a memorable celebration!!
Excellent date night with fantastic service. Staff went out of their way.
Our meal was excellent and our server, Leighton, was very attentive. His recommendations were exactly as he said. This restaurant is worth the wait!
My party of three arrived at the restaurant early as we had tickets for a show that evening. There was only one other couple seated at the time but the hostess gave us a table at the back of the restaurant near the bathrooms. When we requested to be moved to a more commodious location they honored the request but in my opinion this should never have been necessary. The main courses were adequate, small plate vegetable dishes were very expensive. Our waiter interrupted conversations numerous time to ask how we were enjoying our meal.
OK. Bottom line. This place really is that incredible! I am often sceptical of glowing reviews until I see 90% are 4 star plus. Even then I go into the experience with a very critical eye. But FSS hits it out of the park on all levels. Service, variety, quality, etc. But what really stood out were two things. First, the flavor palette of every dish we had was unique. And in a very very good way. We had the:
*BEEF HEART TARTARE
*SMOKED HERRING SPAGHETTI
*ENDIVE & TREVISO SALAD
and for dessert we had yet another paste, the:
*MORCILLA CRESTE DI GALLO
We were having some trouble deciding on a wine pairing for our courses, especially the herring pasta. Hanna (co-owner w/ her chef husband) was relentless in trying to get us just the right match for each of our courses.
Alexander our waiter was excellent. There when we needed him yet allowed us a leisurely pace for our meal.
6 years living in Philly, and I am here to tell you this is now one of my top three go to restaurants in town, and is by far the most creative and flavorful menu I've had pretty much anywhere in the world!! Not kidding.
Lovely. Interesting. Help gave good information but not intrusive. Well done
The food here is just delicious. The only reason for the “4” rating overall is because we wish the beer list was as good as the wine and cocktails. Attentive and knowledgeable servers, and the ambiance isn’t stuffy or uppity at all, which is my favorite thing about the place- well that and the octopus...definitely get the octopus...also hats off to whomever makes that delicious thin as air bread with the honey butter. If you ask me, a person who takes such great care with the complimentary “bread” is sure to make sure the entire meal is thoughtfully created and perfectly executed! We will definitely be back (again).
Don't understand how it's rate the 2nd best restaurant in Philly. Food was overpriced and average. A bit salty and overcooked for some. Not worth it.
A truly superb meal. Unfortunately, the duck my friend and I wanted to share had been used up. However, the steak was a great substitute. Our wifes' stripped bass was equally good.
We had to make our reservation nearly two months ago, but definitely worth the wait.
This was the best meal I have ever had.
I had heard a lot of great things about this restaurant, but overall I was disappointed. The food was eh, just OK at best. You can find much better at many Philly restaurants for the same price or less. The wait staff was rude and unaccommodating. It was also extremely loud and I could not hear my partner sitting across from me the whole meal. I would not recommend this restaurant nor would I go back.
I looked forward to returning to Friday Saturday Sunday as it had been months since I’d been there. I loved prior meals there both upstairs and at the bar. This was memorable for the wrong reasons.
Our server was so obnoxious. It was clear his only goal was to get us to spend a lot of money. He had an air of pretense about him which was offensive and unwarranted. When I asked about wine he attempted to direct me to the more expensive in and made a face when I ordered the slightly less expensive. It was quite good.
When I asked our waiter about a menu item, he snarled, “Well, it you let me go through the menu with you...”! He then went through the menu directing us to order from each section - starters, pasta, plates (aka entrees), and vegetables, as if we were in a tapas place. The friend I ate with is a pescatarian, and I was trying to eat healthy. That eliminated most of the starters for me. There was not a single starter for my friend, given her dietary restrictions. The only fish entree was served with potato salad, which neither of us thought made sense nor had interest in. And neither of us wanted pasta. When we made the reservation I intended to get the chicken which I’ve had before and loved. But, I ended up having chicken the two nights before. As I didn’t want meat or pasta, there were few choices.
While I’d have preferred an entree, I ordered the tuna tartare starter, we split an artichoke dish, and we each had the cauliflower; which I’d remembered being delicious on prior visits. After taking our order our obnoxious waiter said, “I’ll put in the order for your nibbles”.
I will go back because I know Friday Saturday Sunday can do better every day. I am hopeful they will!
This place lived up to all the accolades it’s received. Cocktails and food were all amazing. The portions were generous too. Steak tartare and mussel toast were outstanding. The potato gnocchi were the best I’ve ever had. They were slightly crispy on outside and soft and pillowy on the inside! Staff was extremely pleasant and helpful too throughout the meal. I plan to repeat this restaurant again which I don’t typically do.
Absolutely one of the best restaurants in Philadelphia.
It was our anniversary dinner... the food was delicious! We really enjoyed the meal, wait staff & ambiance.
This is the real deal. A few minor pretentious notes, like the charcoal dust on the crispy wafers offered as a greeting, but everything we had was excellent. Sublime gnocchi, wonderfully rich seafood pasta, the chicken of course, and the little sweetbread sandwiches are the stuff of dreams.
Everything was fantastic. All the food we ordered we delish and our waiter was great. Glad we came here
Amazing food and drinks!!
Everything was excellent but the Brussels sprouts and Duck were outstanding
Great service and amazing food. One of the best dining experiences in Philadelphia. There is a reason this great restaurant is ranked in the top 5 of the top 50 restaurants in Philadelphia. Will definitely come back
Exceptional service, food, and cocktails.
Absolutely flawless experience, food was outstanding, great service, and they even had one of my favorite rosés on their bottle list. Would absolutely return the next time I’m in Philly. Thanks for a wonderful evening!
Amazing food, service, and cocktails. It was a perfect date night!
Lots of rules and multiple reconfirmations
Main entree options very limited (duck was sold out) especially since no specials. Chicken & steak very well prepared and portions generous. Octopus also good.
I booked on Open Table where I've noted my "spouse requires no-sugar options". Most restaurants take note and raise the issue without our prompting prepared to advise re sugar-free options but here the waiter had not been told (we made the reservation weeks ahead). No biggie but not isolated. My appetizer arrived 20 minutes after my husband got his.
The high decibel noise on 2nd floor + tables very close together and constant bustle make this another packed, trendy, noisy spot. Not special.
One of my best meals and experiences ever. These guys do an amazing job. 15/10
Amazing food and wonderful service. Will absolutely be back!
The smoked herring spaghetti was delicious. Everything else we ordered was good as well, but not memorable enough that I would recommend people to go here. Based on all the reviews and accolades, I expected to be blown away, but I wasn't unfortunately.
We went to FSS for an anniversary dinner. The atmosphere was dark and romantic. The service was knowledgeable and attentive. The food was very good but no one dish delivered a wow. The wine list was very small but balanced. Overall it was a nice experience. We enjoyed the salad, Brussels, and spaghetti. The shellfish plateau was mostly mussel toast, which is very creamy. The cantaloupe sorbet to end the meal was superb.
I went here for a very important business dinner. We ordered one main dish per person and for some reason the server thought we would share the dishes and brought two dishes first and said the other two dishes will come after we finish the first two. We explained to the server that we are not sharing and we will eat our individual dish. He then took two dishes (pasta) back to the kitchen. When all the four dishes came out after 10mins, the two pasta dishes were exactly the same ones that came out before. Very disappointed and ruined our dinner.
I surprised my husband for his birthday and let me say he has now added this restaurant as one of his top five favorites for Philly dining. He cannot stop raving about the mussel toast we had. The drinks were exquisite and right on par with our menu. The Chilean sea bass was substituted for the halibut for our dinner and I am glad we chose it. We thought is was actually better than the lobster dish we ordered. Food was served for the purposes of sharing but with just the right portions to be full but not overwhelmed. Our server Thor, was attentive and answered all of our questions about the menu. Another plus was the ambiance. We could actually hear each other talk! The quaintness of the upstairs dining area made the difference along with separating it from the bar scene downstairs. NICE TOUCH. The only qualm I had was the lack of a decent dessert menu. I love sweets and always top off my dinner with a decadent dessert, the selection was just average. After the wonderful meal I had, I was expecting my dessert to "wow" me. It didn't. We will definitely be back for more mussel toast. This restaurant is a gem. Thank you.
