Frida Kahlo Mexican Grill
Here at Frida Kahlo Grill, we honor the life of Frida Kahlo and the artwork we all know and love. Frida’s paintings are revered for their homage to tradition, yet distinctive style unique to the artist herself. Our goal, like Frida, is to create an experience that draws from authenticity, infusing Northern Mexican Cuisine with a freshness offered only here, at Frida Kahlo Grill.
From our handmade tortillas to fresh Mole, we ensure an authentic Mexican experience. Our ingredients, imported from Mexico or made from scratch in our kitchen every day, help us to create the flavors of our country and bring it to you here, with the foods you would eat at our abuela’s (grandma’s) house!
Truly yours, Cesar and Joaquin.
Seated right away only three tables occupied. Gotbusy half way thru the meal 8-9 tables waiter still smiling got a little slower but not ina hurry
This place has potential but the service is horrible. Food is really good and long for a quality Mexican restaurant in the area. But I’ve been here twice under the new ownership and they just can’t improve the service level. Will not give it a third shot.
The food was over priced and the quality was not great. The restaurant was hot and sticky.
Food and service were excellent. We went at 6:00 on a Saturday evening, so there were several tables with children...ugh!
The waiters were very attentive and helpful in suggesting items on the menu. Food was good . Atmosphere was pleasant.
Some good, some bad. Definitely skip grilled octopus, it was tough and tasteless. Salmon was excellent. Ambiance was very nice and very nice outdoor patio if weather allows
Great place to enjoy Cinco de Mayo! Patio was open, food was wonderful and margaritas were flowing. Entertainment was an added bonus!
A cut above your average chain mexican place. Our server was authenitic and knew the menu items well. Margaritas were average and I wasn't crazy about the salsa that came with the chips, but the food had a somewhat creative flair over the traditional dishes to be expected. Good guacamole!
We enjoy the restaurant and the atmosphere. Disappointing that they bring out 3 tortillas with the fajitas and when we asked for more tortillas they brought out 3 and charged us $3. We brought that to their attention and said three is standard because they are house made. Honestly, they are not that good.
Menu could be much better—more variety. Prices high for the quality/selection.
I ordered the tamales, and asked if I could have one pork and one chicken—was told “no.” I can’t see any reason why that would not have been possible. The tamales were awful. It was a flour base that had the consistency of yellow cake. I left most all of it on the plate, uneaten. Won’t be returning. As we left the restaurant, there were three to four employees congregated around the front desk. Not one of them thanked us eating there.
Food was excellent, still waiting way too long for drinks from the bar. Music overhead kept playing commercials...
Staff was friendly and attentive, food was tasty but wow are their prices high! Soup $16 a salad $17 and with no protein. Probably would skip next time.
We tried this restaurant with a group of friends shortly after it opened. It was so good, my wife and I came back again the next night. That was 5-6 weeks ago. Since then we’ve been back once a week. We’ve each tried several dishes and found it very good each time. The margaritas are especially good. And, we’ve had great and gracious service each time. We liked the previous Mexican restaurant that used to be in this location, but have found this new one several notches better. We especially love the melted cheese appetizer covered in jalapeños and spices!
Great New Mexican Restaurant. Everything was outstanding.
Service not good. I waited 15 minutes for a glass they forgot initially and they brought a “birthday” dessert which we didn’t ask for and they charged us. Decent food but would not recommend.
Food was average. Service was abrupt, then just plain absent. This restaurant needs to invest some serious time in training their staff, from host to server.
The food was excellent. Very beautiful presentation. Our young woman server was very attentive and knew the menu very well. Service was great. I hope this restaurant can make it. We need good choices in Clarendon Hills.
Wow, great place!! My wife had the mahi mahi and I had the enchiladas festiva, both were superb!! I highly recommend this place.
really tasty! The mole is top notch, the kids menu could be a little better
Food was average but the service was great. There were only a few tables so server was attentive and food came quick. Will try again
The food was good and our waitress was lovely, but the service was extremely slow. We were seated quickly then waited 30 minutes for our drinks. It seemed like they were very understaffed on a busy night.
Ordered a pitcher of the high end margaritas and swear there was little to no alcohol in them. Food was average at best
The service was beyond slow, over an hour after we actually ordered. Then the food came, fajitas with tortillas, which took 20 min to get. My wife's tamales had a huge hair pop out after she cut one open.
The waiter saw it and quickly grabbed it...however, they then brought back the SAME dish, same tamale she had cut open. Thanks for removing the hair!
Others around us were extremely annoyed as well. This place may not make it, just like the last mexican place that was in the same location.
The food is a substantial upgrade to the previous restaurant. Service was amazing, however the bar was terribly understaffed. We had to wait nearly 20-minutes for each round. One bartender who is also servicing tables is inadequate! They need a dedicated bartender on the rail and should have another server for the high-tops. Overall staffing needs to be increased! Our server was amazing and the food was delicious, but long waits for drinks and food are not a good recipe for success!
Everything about our meal and dining experience was below average in every way. Even the margaritas weren’t good! The food at its predecessor, Aguamiel, was so much better! I know this new place has only been open a couple of weeks, so I hope the owners have something better planned in regards to menu options and finesse. My husband’s steak tacos were dry, and my chicken enchiladas were boring. The wait staff were pleasant, but our server was in a hurry and spoke so fast we could hardly keep up with her. When my husband asked the bus boy for crema, he didn’t understand or speak any English. I hope this place improves because we need more dining options in Clarendon Hills!
Service was sadly disappointing.
We tried this new place in Clarendon Hills, and the food and service were excellent! Definitely recommend you try it.
