Freshwater (Fine) Dining
Fabulous food, but our small plates/appetizers came out 40 minutes after our main meal arrived.
It is such a pleasure to know that Freshwater exists. I LOVE the tasting menu!!!! Every dish was presented with care, and I enjoyed the freshness and the creativity the chef has for his/her craft. I look forward to the next visit already! P.S. The staff is as entertaining as the food served. Great experience every time I visited. Thank you!!!!!
We had a great time at Freshwater on Saturday night. We decided to sit at the bar this time and Marlin was wonderful. He even asked what type of music we liked and then had it played! The food was absolutely delicious. We will definitely be back.
Very fun place to go and to share a unique experience.
This is a great dining experience. The servers were wonderful and created a great experience for us. The food and wine were exceptional.
Get. The. Tasting. Menu. Enough said.
Awesome tasting menu and wine pairing. We booked a reservation to go back with friends before we finished our dinner!
Had the Sturgeon 2 weeks ago and it was fabulous. Tonight was not as good. But the vegetables rocked.
On the whole, we enjoyed our first dining experience at Freshwater. When we entered (unfortunately, down a rather dank set of stairs from the back parking lot) we were seated by the window- tried not to think of the accident last year, when the car came crashing through! The music was a bit too loud, and I happened to be sitting right under the air-conditioning; but changing places with my partner solved that. The server turned the music down soon afterwards too.
The food was good-to-excellent..the breads and spreads were fine, but our other small plates were excellent. Next time maybe we'll try a large plate!
Great! Fantastic chef’s menu and wine pairings.
First time dining here. Bartender + drinks, food + service = outstanding. We did not choose the tasting menu. Went for one plate to share, a first course and a main course. Perfect portions and amazing flavors in every dish.
We will return!!
Amazing food and wine and excellent service!
Great chief inspired food. The menu had great selection. I'll be back
Who in the world would ever rate this place above a 2 out of 5? I’m puzzled how they get away with putting “fine” in their name. Everything is cheaply done. Ambiance rivals the dining room of the cat lady down the street. Food is absolutely sub-par.
We had one of the best dining experiences that we've had in a while at Freshwater! The food was plate-scraping delicious, not to mention creative and interesting. The staff (Marlon) took amazing care of us. We had a great evening cozied up to the bar, and we look forward to our next visit.
Keeps getting better each visit!
My friend and I had 5 different tapas dishes. All were on the salty side but that could just be a taste preference. Overall a good experience.
My wife and I visited for the first time for our anniversary recently. We had the tasting menu and wine pairing. Every plate they brought looked and tasted great. The pairings were also well chosen. Staff was attentive and knowledgeable. Can't wait to go back!
Food was excellent service lackadaisical at best, bordering on snooty. Our table was the round two-top between the bar, service area and everything else. 10 people per minute walked by, many bumping our chairs as they did. This table and the music should be 86ed, might prevent another couple from having the same lousy experience. I’m sorry, but Freshwater does not belong on the list of KC’s best.
Excellent food. A wide variety, all great. Service was great. Overall, highly recommended.
This was our 2nd time to Freshwater in KC and it didn't disappoint. Food presentation is beautiful and delicious. Waiter was knowledgeable and explained our plated dishes. Very much like the intimate restaurant setting with lively bar..as the night progressed the bar employees were enjoying themselves too. Next time in KC we will definitely go back.
The ten course pairing was a flavor explosion for my taste buds!! Stellar!
Tasting menu with wine paring is fantastic. Service was exceptional.
Good food, good service! Chairs were not very comfortable.
Amazing food and excellent service! I highly recommend the Sturgeon and pasta small plates. My only gripe is that I wish I could have tried the Chef’s Tasting, but they require everyone at the table to participate.
We did the 10 course tasting ($60) and it was incredible!!! Perfect portion sizes and every course was awesome. Highly recommend and we will be back!
Amazing! First time dining at Freshwater and will definitely return! Ate at the bar and Josh and Marlin are the best!
This was our second time visiting Freshwater and it definitely lived up to the high expectations set by our last visit! Every single course was perfect and the sommelier had great wines paired alongside the courses - he was awesome and didn't simply pour the wines, but educated us about the region, grapes, methods, etc. I had spoken with Chef earlier in the week to let him know my wife is pregnant and I have a fish allergy and he said "no problem" and accommodated these allergies in any course it was required. The only piece there might have been some miscommunication was when I mentioned the restrictions to our server, he seemed kind of surprised by it. I assured him I had let Chef know earlier in the week so I'm just going with my gut that the kitchen knew but our server may not have. Regardless, he was very professional about it and said he would be sure to let the kitchen know. It may have fine dining in the name, but rest assured it is a very laid back, yet professional, atmosphere and at $60 for 10 courses + $30 for wine pairings (5 of them), it is a steal for the quality, creativity, and taste you receive. This restaurant is such a little gem that is doing great things and highly encourage Kansas Citians and visitors to the city to give this place a try (make a reservation) - you won't be disappointed!
Amazing food. Great experience. Knowledgeable staff. Was good for me, a foodie, and my friend who just likes food. Highly recommended and will be back!
AC wasn’t working?
Needs sound dampening. Why do you need music. People are coming to talk and eat not to listen to your music selections. 4th visit best cooking ever. Bravo@
The ambiance does not match the $500 we spent for four of us. Our server was behind and was forgetful to keep the courses coming at a steady pace. One of the food runners was knowledgeable of the food but looked like he just walked off a golf course and smelled like it too. No need to go back.
We especially enjoyed the salad, pea soup, and bread for starters. The chicken and duck entrees were delicious. The pork was a bit too fatty.
Amazing chocolate dessert - mousse-like pate.
Unfortunately, the restaurant is no longer a quiet, peaceful place to just enjoy your food and conversation. They should really dial back the music over the speakers.
A great experience. The tasting menu is the way to go, you get to try 10 different dishes. It's not too much food, it's just right. The wine pairings were great and a had some really cool unique wines.
It is always a pleasure to dine at Freshwater. Attentive, friendly and knowledgable service. The food is next level fresh, innovative and delicious. The wine and cocktail programs are stellar. A++
Great experience and value. $60 for 10 courses and you leave perfectly full and content.
We were sorely disappointed in our visit. A couple of our small plates were good - the gnocchi for example was excellent. However, the cornbread morels were a huge let down - it seemed like they made one mushroom stretch for the entire dish which was mostly breading. The biggest disappointment of the night was the “full sized” entree. For $32.00 we got a small sirloin and a potato side that was about 4 bites worth. Definitely not a good value. Don’t plan to return.
Well thought out and presented tasting menu and pairings without any pretentiousness. Standouts on the evening we were there were sea bass sashimi, morel bisque, and beef sirloin but everything was enjoyable! One can order the 10 course tasting menu or a la carte. An excellent value!
The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. They offered the 10 course tasting menu, but we decided to make our own and landed on 8 dishes. Everything was phenomenal. Truly an excellent evening, from the ambiance to the food to the service. We will absolutely be back.
The restarting is split into three rooms with a traditional seating area as you enter, a bar and wait area in the back and then a room with one large table and a few two tops to the side that also serves as the kitchen. We were seated in the kitchen. There is no barrier of any kind between the tables and active kitchen so the room is LOUD. We were initially seated so my wife looked out toward The window to Southwest Traffic-way and I was facing the kitchen. We asked to move to an open table that sat next to the window that Mede the evening nicer for me.
The food was excellent! We had the 10 course tasting menu and I highly recommend it. A great variety of foods served in extremely small serving sizes but definitely enough food after all is served.
The service was very good, but t is a layer back atmosphere with casual service but they are very attentive and described each course very well.
I would say this is a good alternative to Blue Stem.
