Fresco Ratings and Reviews
Went to Fresco for holiday dinner with friends who had never been. Great ambiance. Food is wonderful; a bit pricey, but worth it. Service was great. Both previous lunch and happy hour were equally good. We will be making this a local spot for dinner in Carlsbad.
Although not a upscale five star resteraunt..I thought the food was quite good. The only exception ... we asked for the salad to be lightly dressed, and it came, I'm guessing how they normally serve it.... which for me, was overdressed! Still quite good though. There was also a lil mini drama where the manager did not have the reservation for a party of 15 and we had to move to accommodate them, kinda weird but not really a big deal because the waitress in the new section was so pleasant and professional.
We loved our dinner at Fresco originally we were seated inside but it was so loud we asked for outside seating. It was beautiful and much quieter. I had two mojitos which were delightful strong and tasty. The Cioppino and calamari where amazing. Loved the gluten free options .
This was a business meal. Atmosphere is nice but the doors were open and it was cold inside. Mentioned to waiter and he acknowledged it was cold and he complained that the folks at the front open the doors. I had to ask him to go close them and he did. While waiting for my guest, the waiter explained a few items on the menu but was annoyed to have to explain them again to my guest. Weird. My guest thought the waiter was rude to me. The calamari appetizer was very average and a bit undercooked. The Seabass was good and it's veggies were very good.
With the wine it was pricey and the meals are not inexpensive so the expectations are high. I would not bring a person there who is familiar with good service and food. Service is blah and the food varies from marginal to good depending. I would not recommend it to a friend personally. Your mileage may vary.
Went out for our Ladies' Night. Although we had reservations, were left standing for quite sometime. We finally got seated and after deciding on our orders, we proceeded to do so and were surprised when told that they were out of Pizza. Which is bizarre considering it was 7 PM and that this is an Italian Restaurant. The mussels ordered by our party had to be cancelled as well since apparently they had run out of those as well. We did not order dessert, fearing they might be out of whatever we ordered :-)
The place and ambience are great but the management has some issues.
Open for Thanksgiving w/enthusiastic and abundant staff - thank you for giving up family time so our family could celebrate away from home!! Prix fixe menu balanced turkey meal and butternut squash pasta options to highlight culinary talent of chef. Pear Gorgonzola walnut mixed green salad w/light berry vinaigrette awoken palatte for holiday turkey meal .. wonderful combination .. then end w/chocolate lava that was light smooth and robust dessert
We came to Fresco after reading other reviews. We enjoyed our service and the decor was lovely. Fresco apparently was recently renovated and they did a great job! Our appetizers were delicious and plentiful; my husband and I shared the fabulous burrata, which came with the most amazing artichokes we’ve ever had. My shrimp with risotto was so good but I had to take half home after feasting on our appetizer. My husband enjoyed his chicken dish as well. Dessert was a little disappointing as the chocolate lava cake wasn’t gooey on the inside; perhaps it was cooked a bit too long. We would definitely return and highly recommend. Randi M, New York
We travel to Carlsbad periodically to vacation and enjoy the beach, local shopping and dinning. This was the first time we ate at Frisco. We found that it has great service, great food, great ambiance, and great value. We added to our list of favorite places to eat in Carlsbad and will be back next time we are in town.
If you sit outside on the covered patio it is quiet. The food and service was excellent.
I had the Halibut. It was delicious, but we had a few other dishes prior to our main course coming so I couldn't eat it all. I was not expecting the portion to be so generous.
Our server was Michael. He was new to the area - recently moved from Canada. We wouldn't have guessed that by his knowledge of the menu! He was very pleasant and professional. When we had questions, he not only answered them, but offered his suggestions/favorites on the menu.
We will definitely be returning.
I want to love this place- the appetizers we had were amazing, so was the pizza! Everything fell apart once we realized the wine list was subpar at best... you can either order a bottle of opus one for $350 or a bottle of mediocre red for $60. The entrees we ordered were also pretty gross- the seafood risotto tasted like rice with leftover ciopino soup dumped on top (the seafood was all pretty tough and flavorless). The ravioli were drenched in a weird sweet cream sauce. Overall if you’re going for apps and cocktails or a pizza and beer I think you’re probably fine. Otherwise I would consider going elsewhere.
My girlfriend and I were in Carlsbad for a mini getaway and tried Fresco. What a great choice. The food, service and locale were top notch. Veal Marsala was tender and the Chicken in lemon butter sauce was excellent. Anna provided excellent service, making sure our dinner experience was memorable.
We had an excellent dinner here. Michael, our server, gave exceptional service. The ambience and decor was fantastic. I had the cheese ravioli with tomatoe cream sauce and my husband had the meat lasagna. Both were delicious! We will definitely come back again. This was a great end to our long weekend vacation. The best restaurant we had eaten in all weekend.
Food was excellent and service was terrible. It took over 15 minutes before someone greeted us at the table for drink orders. We had to actually request a waiter before anyone came over. A real let down since we had higher hopes for this place. Again, food was delicious, it’s too bad their service is subpar and disorganized. The cooks deserve the tips for the excellent tasting food that would have been even better with a decent waiter. Probably won’t be back.
My Chilean Seabass was outstanding!!! Overall everyone who was with me really enjoyed the food.
It was quite loud though and hard to have a conversation with 4 people without almost yelling. That was the only thing that I didn't like. I would request a different seating location when I go back to see if it can be quieter somewhere else.
Outdoor patio for dining was lovely and enjoyable to people watch. I ordered the chicken with artichokes and really felt it fell short. The flavor was bit too tart, and not sure if artichoke hearts were from a can. The side of asparagus was al dente and delicious. My fiance ordered chicken parmegiano which was just ok. I would return to try the pizzas as they looked lovely at a nearby table.
The food here is good but the service was abysmal. Have been to many restaurants in Carlsbad during tourist season and all are great. This one? Not so much. Only go here if you have A LOT of time to kill and like really loud environments. Will not go again.
Service was very slow. We waited almost an hour for food. The food was heavier than the menu suggests. The halibut was a large portion of fish floating in tomato purée and tiny shrimp (which the menu does not mention the shrimp.) My husband had chicken Marsala, it also had a lot of sauce. The best salad was enormous and had way too much dressing. Our children had pizza, it looked great. It was Neapolitan style. They should stick to pizza.
First off, we had a reservation and was seating shortly after we go there at a table on their patio. We noticed there was only one server waiting on the entire patio so we didn't get waited on until 15 minutes after being seated. Everyone arriving after us already had drinks and their order in. So we sat patiently and waited. The bread and oil/vinegar were okay. Our server didn't ask if we were there for anything special like I'd hear some of the other servers ask their table. We put our order as she greeted us because we'd already been there 15 minutes and had decided. We didn't get any water refills until the very end of meal. When our food did come out it wasn't terribly hot. The kitchen apparently numbers the patio tables different the servers do so our dished got taken to a bunch of different tables before we actually got it. Not sure why the server had to tell us this, just made them look worse than they already were doing. We were there to celebrate my milestone birthday, again the server didn't ask, and were planning to order dessert and put a candle it but after the subpar meal and poor service we got dessert else where. A lot of work needs to be done here. It almost seemed like they had management issues. My husband and I will not be returning to this restaurant.
