Fresco Da Franco Ratings and Reviews
Overall the experience was good. The food was good and our server was very attentive. My issue was we were seated at the WORST table in the place. We were right next to the serving station so every time someone needed a glass or fork we were interrupted. This made for a less than pleasurable experience. We did ask to be moved but there were no other tables for 2 during the time we were there. The place is a bit pricey so be ready to drop at least a C-note for dinner for 2.
The starters (calamari, tuna tartare and Church Street salad) were the stars of the evening. Unfortunately, we had to wait 45 minutes for them. Service was excruciatingly slow. Our server did not even visit our table to give us an update for 35 minutes. The kitchen was clearly overwhelmed by some large parties.
Entrees were a mixed bag: Veal Milanese was really good, as was a special seafood risotto. Brown butter gnocchi, and a risotto with peas and egg were just okay.
In the end, our table was cleared, at which point one would expect to have a server approach with dessert menus. He was too busy holding up a wall nearby. Unable to get his attention, I had to walk over to him to get our bill!
Noise level was too loud for conversation. The music was more appropriate for a nightclub, and detracted from the ambience.
I was dismayed that one of my guests received his lasagna cold in the middle. He sent it back, and it must have been returned to the oven and when he tasted it , it was dry. He did not eat it, it was taken off the bill. But this was embarrassing because I had told my guest how great the food is at this restaurant. Sad to say, but I will not treat someone to dinner at this restaurant again.
We had a 7:30 reservation on Saturday night. We were seated at 8:30. At 9:30, I got up from my table to let the hostess know that we still had not been served our dinner. We were offered nothing by the staff as an apology for our wait. Although we have been there several times, this was not the first time we had poor service. This time, it was a seating issue, the last time it was a wait staff issue. The food is excellent, which is the reason we returned. After Saturday night, we will seriously consider a return to a restaurant that didn’t honor our reservation and did nothing to apologize for it.
We waited over 40 minutes to get our food. Rather than apologize, the waiter said it was a Friday night and it took time to prepare our dinners - even the salads. When we kept asking for our dinners, he was rude and said that we were not the only people there!! When the food finally arrived (close to 45 minutes after it was ordered), one person's dinner wasn't served. Oops, they said. Even though the order was in the system (and on the bill), somehow the kitchen hadn't gotten the order. This order was served about an hour after it was ordered and by then we had to leave. Best part of the dinner was being able to sit outside!
I've been to this restaurant once before, and had a much better experience. The food was just okay - calamari was dry, chewy and unseasoned. Got the branzino - fish was perfectly cooked, but the side salad was way too salty because they added too many capers. Dessert was just okay - Applebee's molten lava cake is way better than the one we had here - the one we were served was dry on the outside; seemed as if it was sitting out.
The server was pleasant, once he decided to speak to us. He seemed to be tending to the two larger parties he had at the same time as us.
Just an okay experience; with another patron though, this could have been a terrible review.
Service was extremely slow and absent - our waiter checked on us only once through the two hour meal. The antipasto board was very good and a fair price, but the entre's were overpriced. $22 for lasagna that tasted the same as something I could buy in the frozen section of the grocery store. The outdoor seating was also very odd. Tables are set up as if it is for a party of six, with no space between them so you have the potential to be less than a foot away from another party/couple. Not ideal for a date!
Our service was fantastic and the food was phenomenal. My husband and I were celebrating our 6th wedding anniversary and were looking for a nice quiet restaurant to enjoy adult conversation (as we have two little ones at home, UNINTERRUPTED
conversation is hard to come by). The location of our table is honestly the only negative thing I have to say about this restaurant. We were directly underneath a large pantry where the servers would take and restock glasses and utensils. That uninterrupted adult conversation had to wait until after dinner. Not the best location for a table. Next time we go, which we will!!! I'll make sure to request another table.
We celebrated my husbands birthday. The staff was great. We didn't realize that a party of 10 or over had to have a family style buffet and me thought that it would be hard and maybe a huge inconvenience, but my husband and I realized that it turned out to be a great idea. The food came and we had a chance to sit and enjoy and talk to each other. Mohammed was great. Came over and checked on us a few times. My cousin who is an editor for Essence magazine couldn't stop raving about the restaurant, service and the ambiance. She said she's has had that great feeling of a restaurant in a while. Thanx so much.
Fresco never disappoints. I've been there many times, with a variety of friends, and it is always a winner. Especially the ricotta vasi for an appetizer. Hamburgers delicious, pastas excellent, salads wonderful and filling. Wait service very professional and friendly.
Planned a get together with another couple to catch up. Heard good things about this place so we made a reservation. While the food was fine, the atmosphere was horrible. Another group at the front of the restaurant was having some type of celebration so the place kept turning up the music so loud, we could not hear each other speak. If I wanted to go to a night club, I would have. Will never go back - no consideration at all for the other patrons that were trying to enjoy an evening out. When I asked the server when the nightclub would be closing he just shrugged his shoulders.
We had a lovely lunch, my friend and I. We were able to catch up in beautiful surroundings, ate excellent tasting food and excellent service by Giovanni. Overall 5 stars. The church street salad is simple yet delectable, and the lobster ravioli was finger licking good. Excellent use of fresh ingredients and herbs. Wonderful experience! I work nearby and will definitely come again and again.
Restaurant was bright and cool on a hot day. The outdoor cafe had a guitar and bass player with great umbrellas. We ate inside because of the heat but had great views of Church street. The food was great. I had the meat ball salad- a throw back for me-what to do with left over meatballs), baby arugula and tomatoes with two clearly fresh home made meat balls. It was very refreshing for such s hot day. Another person had the frittata which was made to order with egg whites. Pass up the lines at other places and dine here for brunch.
This was my first time at Fresco. The service was wonderful. It was a BYOB and it took less than 10 minutes once we ordered our bottle of wine for it to be delivered to the restaurant. Great feature, instead of stopping and buying your bottle yourself. There were four of us and we each ordered something different and loved everything about it. The Panini's are great! Would definitely go back. It is also in an area where there is wonderful shopping.
We are outside under a giant umbrella and had a great meal. The umbrella kept us dry and shaded (the weather went from super sunny to rainy a few times during our meal.) Inside was dark and loud do we were happy we sat outside. The calamari and Fresco salad were great and the lobster ravioli was awesome! For dessert we tried the warm lava cake and dulce de leche - they were excellent!
