Fresco Da Franco Ratings and Reviews
Dined in with friends for Saturday brunch. Although there was only one other table seated when we arrived for our reservation, we were not offered drinks until we stopped the waiter and asked about 15 minutes after sitting down. Drinks were slow to arrive and be refilled throughout the meal.
After being seated for 30 minutes, our waiter came by additional menus with the day's specials, then promptly disappeared again. The food was good but varied widely in terms of quantity. The breakfast calzone was monstrous: a good foot long. Eggs Benedict came with a side of home fries, while the vegetarian benedict special came with no side. A side of pancetta was crispy and well sized in a small bowl perfect for sharing.
Overall, good food in an atmosphere that wants to be much more than it is.
We came for a special dinner with another couple. We were sat upon arrival, however saw no service for nearly 20 minutes.
They kept raising the music volume up, at times it felt like we were in a club!
It seems they booked a large party and that made it difficult to access the restroom and exit.
The food was good, not good enough to make me come back.
Recently saw it it on open table for brunch and decided to give it a try. Next to the theater, great location. I always say when you have problems with bread and butter you know you’re off to a bad start. They were not offered and arrived only after repeated attempts. The whole brunch meal felt like it was reheated. Service was scarce. And overall for such an attractive restaurant the meal could not be more disappointing. Go to diners across the street next time. They don’t screw up eggs !!
Midway through our meal music got turned up to dance club volume. Literally couldn't hold a conversation with the person sitting next to me. Valet service is a good idea but having to wait 25 minutes for car to be returned was frustrating
This is our second time here and each time the food has been very unique and memorable. The service was also terrific each time. So while I would be giving the place top marks, for some bizarre reason at random moments they blast a wide range of music from Disco to Southern Rock and 80's music. It is so loud it is difficult to have a conversation.
It wouldn't be so bad if we knew what we were getting, like at a place that turns into a dance hall after a certain hour. But this is earlier in the evening and totally random. They turned it down when we complained but then cranked it up again 15 minutes later with no apologies for doing so. So unfortunately we won't be coming back to enjoy their food.
Went on a Saturday night following movie next door. There were about 6 parties going on and the noise level was very loud until about 10:15.
The food was good and I loved the meetball appetizer.
Because we had a late reservation, some dishes on the menu were sold out. We did receive 2 complimentary desserts because the ones we wanted were unavailable.
Our waiter was very nice and accommodating.
I just wish it wasn’t so loud. I was hoarse the next morning from screaming to be heard by my friends.
Overall the experience was good. The food was good and our server was very attentive. My issue was we were seated at the WORST table in the place. We were right next to the serving station so every time someone needed a glass or fork we were interrupted. This made for a less than pleasurable experience. We did ask to be moved but there were no other tables for 2 during the time we were there. The place is a bit pricey so be ready to drop at least a C-note for dinner for 2.
The starters (calamari, tuna tartare and Church Street salad) were the stars of the evening. Unfortunately, we had to wait 45 minutes for them. Service was excruciatingly slow. Our server did not even visit our table to give us an update for 35 minutes. The kitchen was clearly overwhelmed by some large parties.
Entrees were a mixed bag: Veal Milanese was really good, as was a special seafood risotto. Brown butter gnocchi, and a risotto with peas and egg were just okay.
In the end, our table was cleared, at which point one would expect to have a server approach with dessert menus. He was too busy holding up a wall nearby. Unable to get his attention, I had to walk over to him to get our bill!
Noise level was too loud for conversation. The music was more appropriate for a nightclub, and detracted from the ambience.
I was dismayed that one of my guests received his lasagna cold in the middle. He sent it back, and it must have been returned to the oven and when he tasted it , it was dry. He did not eat it, it was taken off the bill. But this was embarrassing because I had told my guest how great the food is at this restaurant. Sad to say, but I will not treat someone to dinner at this restaurant again.
We had a 7:30 reservation on Saturday night. We were seated at 8:30. At 9:30, I got up from my table to let the hostess know that we still had not been served our dinner. We were offered nothing by the staff as an apology for our wait. Although we have been there several times, this was not the first time we had poor service. This time, it was a seating issue, the last time it was a wait staff issue. The food is excellent, which is the reason we returned. After Saturday night, we will seriously consider a return to a restaurant that didn’t honor our reservation and did nothing to apologize for it.
We waited over 40 minutes to get our food. Rather than apologize, the waiter said it was a Friday night and it took time to prepare our dinners - even the salads. When we kept asking for our dinners, he was rude and said that we were not the only people there!! When the food finally arrived (close to 45 minutes after it was ordered), one person's dinner wasn't served. Oops, they said. Even though the order was in the system (and on the bill), somehow the kitchen hadn't gotten the order. This order was served about an hour after it was ordered and by then we had to leave. Best part of the dinner was being able to sit outside!
I've been to this restaurant once before, and had a much better experience. The food was just okay - calamari was dry, chewy and unseasoned. Got the branzino - fish was perfectly cooked, but the side salad was way too salty because they added too many capers. Dessert was just okay - Applebee's molten lava cake is way better than the one we had here - the one we were served was dry on the outside; seemed as if it was sitting out.
The server was pleasant, once he decided to speak to us. He seemed to be tending to the two larger parties he had at the same time as us.
Just an okay experience; with another patron though, this could have been a terrible review.
Service was extremely slow and absent - our waiter checked on us only once through the two hour meal. The antipasto board was very good and a fair price, but the entre's were overpriced. $22 for lasagna that tasted the same as something I could buy in the frozen section of the grocery store. The outdoor seating was also very odd. Tables are set up as if it is for a party of six, with no space between them so you have the potential to be less than a foot away from another party/couple. Not ideal for a date!
