Fresco at the Gardens
At the Anderson Japanese Gardens in Rockford, Fresco at the Gardens serves artisanal breakfast and lunch to match its beautiful surroundings. For breakfast, which can be enjoyed anytime Fresco at the Gardens is open, savory options like the biscuits and gravy made with challah rolls topped with organic pork sausage, chorizo and herbs and the whimsical green eggs and ham with homemade pesto sauce and local asiago cheese, are irresistible. Sweet breakfast choices include the healthy start waffles with Fresco granola and topped with vanilla Greek yogurt and berries and the rock candy French toast, rolled in cinnamon rock sugar, both of which are ideal with a fresh-pressed strawberry orange juice.
Popular lunch entres at Fresco at the Gardens include the chicken pretzel roll sandwich with local chicken, veggies and mustard and the charbroiled marlin with jalapeno polenta and tequila lime butter.
The gardens provide a lovely view. Half of our party enjoyed their food -- a hamburger and steak and avocado in lettuce wrap, the other half not so much -- the salad was wilted and the chicken dry; the lobster roll was very bland and the arugula wilted. The service was good.
Breakfast with the family , fantastic food and juice bar. The applewood smoked bacon was on point !
This is a wonderful restaurant in a beautiful location. They have a fun menu and I have not had a bad meal there yet.
After we got seated, a waitress did not return to our table for almost 30 minutes. It seems no one knew whose table it was. Food was good, but I had to ask twice for my drink and a requested side for my mother's meal. If it wasn't for the view, I probably wouldn't return.
Always a great place to go for brunch!
Beautiful view of the gardens, excellent food locally sourced when possible, attentive staff...
What a wonderful surprise to come across this restaurant in such beautiful garden. Absolutely a place to stop to eat and visit the garden. We will definitely come back again. Nice gift shop too.
First time visit with friends. Beautiful setting with great food.
Love dining at Fresco's. Service was excellent. The food was exceptional. The only complaint is there are a lot of flies in the restaurant and at least 3 were surrounding our table and landed on the table.
Beautiful view while enjoying good food and catching up with an old friend.
Wonderful food and atmosphere. Always pleased when we choose this restaurant!
The food and drinks were delicious. A great setting for a relaxing lunch.
maybe in another season sitting outside would be good, but there were way to many flies, and hornets swarming around for us to enjoy our time together, and the food took about 1 hour to arrive.
Excellent food and service. Great menu that accommodates different diets such as gluten free, Keto, and Mediterranean diets. Of course the views of the gardens are fantastic. Definitely a great experience.
It was our first visit but it will not be our last. We made reservations for early morning outside, 8:30. Our waitress was delightful. I recommend the French Toast with the fruit on top. Good coffee too.
It is difficult not to have a great time in Fresco. The garden view is incredible and the place is fantastic!
Lunch at Fresco was a joy. The staff were all very friendly and were very much on top of our needs - glasses always kept full. I would highly recommend a visit to this location. Restaurant was somewhere that you want to go again.
The food is nice and fresh and the views are spectacular!!
The unobstructed views of the garden enhance the overall experience for a relaxed meal in the beautiful architectural designed dining space. Our lunch was delicious and plated with artistic expression. Our service was the only disappointment, for the server did not seem to be enjoying Himself - of course we all have bad days! The convenience for ending a tour at The Gardens where one can continue to enjoy the relaxed state of mind is unbeatable. I would certainly return and do recommend Fresco to others.
Everything was classy but my chicken walnut salad needed a whole lot more lettuce. I went away hungry. Very good but a shallow bowl when lettuce is so cheap
Great place! Mimosas super, had lobster chaser salad delicious 😋 beautiful setting. Met my sisters from I’ll for lunch, stayed 3 hours with no rush by staff to move us out. Very much enjoyed by all. We will definitely meet here again and put it on our list of favorites😀😀.
Food was delicious and the view from indoors was decent. Other patrons including a birthday for a child was ongoing so noise was a bit higher than usual. Slightly overwhelming amount of insects indoors. But that's expected. Overall a great experience.
I can't eat salads, which came with my crab sandwich. The wait staff gave me options and I chose fruit, which I'm allergic to melons and she saw I only got berries. Very accommodating to my needs.
We are making plans to go back and bring friends soon!
What a wonderful way to wrap-up our visit to the Anderson Japanese Gardens. Fresco at the Gardens looks out over a panoramic view the gardens through floor to ceiling windows. There was nice patio seating but surprisingly offered limited shade from the intense sun the day of our visit. They could do so much more with the patio to create a zen-inspired dining experience.
The menu was ambitious and we found its variety satisfied every taste and appetite in our party. Service was very good and we have already recommended to friend to take the garden tour and make reservations for the restaurant following it.
Our waiter, Caesar, was very attentive, friendly and professional. Our meals were presented extremely well and were very tasty. Our host, Kevin, was quite personable also. My granddaughter was treated royally on her 6th birthday!
What a beautiful place to dine!
The inly comments I could add was:
1. Was the AC working?
It was very warm
2. The noise level makes it difficult to visit.
Swagged Oriental bright fabrics from the ceiling work nit only work to absorb the sounds but be beautiful, too.
Food was OK. It was better the last time I was there. Waiter was weak on personality.
First time here, ordered South of the Border hash, it comes with Avocado, it was brown. I asked to get a fresh avocado, I expected fresher foods from here since their name means "fresh" I asked for a regular corona I got a corona premier. I didn't send it back I just drank it. The look of this place is very nice but the service was just ok, food was good, a little pricey for breakfast but I'm sure it's because of the beautiful garden you get to see while dining there.
Beautiful location. We were driving through Rockford at lunch time and discovered this gem :) I loved the crab cake sandwich, and would give that 5 stars. My husband got the sliders, and gave them 4 stars. A waitress stopped by to say she would be right with us, and then disappeared - (They were busy - every table full, and some people were starting to sit outside) Eventually, another girl picked up our table. So, a few minor glitches, but overall a very positive experience - If we lived closer, we would definitely return!
Excellent lunch. The young lady at the desk worked very hard to find a window seat for us. Beautiful view, delicious food and a fun lunch!
Beautiful view, wonderful food, good service, truly enjoyed our visit here!
Great food with an amazing view of the gardens. My wife and I loved the presentation of the plates and the flavors were very good.
Definitely will go back soon!!!!
It was awesome just to sit by the garden view and have a good meal. Would recommend this place to anyone who is in Rockford especially when it’s nice weather outside. Looking forward to taking my husband on a brunch date here.
Great service excellent atmosphere and food was very good.
The food was delicious but it was much more expensive than I anticipated. My salad was 14$ and so was my husbands Bloody Mary. It just seemed a little pricey for what we got. I would go again but I would check the menu first.
Great service and food. This was for Mother's Day treat.
Great food and service as usual
Fresco at the Gardens was great! The food was great. The service was great. The scenery was great. We ate outside and got caught in the rain but the umbrella covers kept us dry for the most part. The food was very reasonably priced and taste great. I'll definitely be back and recommend to everyone!
The food tastes very good and is correctly prepared to order. The spread for the toast is a welcome surprise because it looks so well made and tastes great. Coffee and cream is also very good. The view outside the windows is wonderful and the dining area is very well set up. Overall a very nice place to eat.
