Outstanding in every way. Never write reviews, but this place earned it. Sam was a great host, Nelson with excellent service. The mussels in lobster broth...the cod special...out of bounds. Everything was perfect. Thank you!
Would give it higher score except restaurant was short staffed. Took almost 20 minutes for a server to come to table and another 45 minutes for food. The staff was apologetic and nice
We do apologize, the issue yesterday was not that we were short staffed, but that we had no internet which brings down our entire computer system so food ordering takes twice the time to do anything. We were literally running a restaurant with hand written slips, and authorizing all credit card purchase over the phone as if it were 1970. We apologize for the inconvenience, it was something however we had no way of knowing was coming. I hope you will try us again under better circumstances.
French Roast is always a go to spot.
Great outdoor set up, heat lamps, dividers two nice pergolas.
Happy Hour prices and menu is great!!!
Food and Service are always on point
Moules were moist and more than ample portion....
Steak was not as I ordered - eggs were runny and French fries were tiny pieces of fries- not one whole fry.....
Thank you for taking the time to review French Roast. Naturally we are disappointed to hear this. I hope you brought it to the attention of your server and it was fixed immediately.
A very pleasant place to eat with a nice range of selections. They had a special brunch menu that included pancakes, omelet and croissants as well as their usual menu. Outdoors was particularly nice on a decent weather day.
Our dinner, every dish, was so good. And the service was gracious and efficient. I'm eager to return.
French Roast really figured out the outdoor situation. Our table was comfortable, and obstructed from other people. The food (and cocktails) were great. Highly recommended.
We come here all the time. Known for their brunches their dinners are great and lunches too. Indoors or outdoors. Neighborhood friendly. Not fancy, just good!
amazing for lunch! staff is the best; food delicious. love this place for classic French bistro dishes. hostess is the best and servers accommodating to any request. amazing coffees and croissant as well.
Service was disorganized, poorly done for dinner. Food was very good. But the culture of the restaurant was lacking all grace. Also, serve was very slow in all areas. I am going to say I recommend the French Roast because, as a neighbor down the street, it has been just fine until last night.
Good outdoor dining setup
Very efficient and dependable Host
Service was slow. Our salads were really good but big!
Thank you for taking the time to review French Roast. May we ask was it the server that took too long to get to you or was it the food took a longer time than expected? Or worse yet both?
Neighborhood staple for great food and service. their outdoor dining option is fantastic and hope it stays long after the pandemic leaves
I was in the city for three weekend and this was a great chance to return to one of my favorite haunts. I have always loved the vibe of French Roast. The menu is more limited now, due to the pandemic, but still good. I had the steak frites, as good a always, my companion had the short ribs, which were also very tasty. They don’t seem to give out that great bread anymore, which made me a little sad. But the hummus was good and the profiteroles for dessert were very good, and as alway fabulous coffee. Great dinner at a great little neighborhood bistro!
Always hits the spot. Niçoise salad with a huge piece of seared tuna, fresh greens, good dressing.
Always a great place to come. Friendly staff, great service and consistently good tasting food.
Nice place. Definately busy. Took them a minute to get to us. But was sat immediately, and friendly staff
Good neighborhood place that is consistent and a go to fore lunch.
Came with a friend as he is moving to Miami. We had a lovely time. Excellent food and service!
Underwhelming experience this time. It’s been a neighborhood stalwart for years. This time food was overdone from duck to vegetables on the plate.
I will definitely try again because I want to support the neighborhood businesses, but not my first choice. Hoping for better things to come.
Thank you for taking the time to review French Roast . will bring your concerns to our Chef's attention. Thank you for the valuable feedback.
Ate outdoors on Saturday, April 17. Food was slow to arrive but well worth the wait. Wait staff was very accommodating and knowledgeable. Overall a great dining experience.
Like being in a Parisian neighborhood bistrot.
We usually eat lunch here once a week and always enjoy everything we have ordered. There is a building being constructed across the street which can make outdoor dining noisy during the day.
This is a great place for breakfast, brunch, lunch, dinner or a quick bite. The staff is very attentive.
The drink menu has some very creative options.
Simple bistro dining. Menu for lunch/brunch better than dinner but overall a nice place on UWS. Very nice outdoor seating options. Gets busy on weekends.
It was a beautiful day and I felt as if I was sitting on a street in Paris instead of on the UWS! I had just been to FR for dinner and it was very, very good. Today, however, the food was not quite up to their usual quality. The Mussels Marniere were somewhat flavorless. The mussels were well cooked but the broth left much to be desired. However, my companions eggs in the Shakshuka were cooked exactly as she had requested. I will definitely return but was a bit disappointed in one of my favorite "go to" French Bistro specialties.
Lovely outdoor space for dinner with two friends. Delicious & plentiful mussels, fun waiter & good value.
There were too many people inside and tables were not separated by plastic walls or sheets. My friends burger was too dry.
We have a 40 person minimum indoors at 50% of our maximum occupancy and all tables that aren't six feet apart are indeed separated by the same plexiglass dividers that are outside. If you were here in the evening they can be a little difficult to see but I assure you they are there. There are also air purifiers in the dining room. We take our guests and staffs safety very seriously.
We ate at French Roast on the recommendation of a friend. I had the muscles with french fries and my wife had an omelette. Both were excellent. The muscles were plentiful and the sauce was wonderful. They provided a spoon to consume the sauce. My wife had the omelette which had pepper, ham etc in it. The service was good. This was the first we have eaten outside at a restaurant since the beginning of the pandemic.
Neighborhood favorite, food is always good and the staff is always friendly, helpful and attentive!
Food and service were great. Also they are doing well with COVID safety. This outdoor seating was truly outside instead of an outdoor fully enclosed space.
A neighborhood gem. Went with friends who had not eaten inside a restaurant in over a year. They felt safe and comfortable and had a great meal!
The heat lamps just didn't warm the space they were intended to. So we froze while waiting for our food. My poached eggs were fine, but the service outside was quite slow. I think the dinner menu is much much better than lunch.
Thank you for taking the time to review French Roast. Unfortunately Friday was a very cold day. There is really only so much the heat lamps can do when the temps are in or below the 30s. We do apologize for that luckily warmer weather seems to be on the horizon .
Another superb meal at French Roast. My mushroom soup, Scottish salmon with lentils and profiteroles were all delicious. The service was excellent and the prices most reasonable. Always a great dining option on the UWS.
We don't eat inside yet, so it's worth noting that the heat lamps over the outside tables have two strengths and provide plenty of heat.
The food, service and outdoor seating were great!
Food was delicious !! We went for brunch, but ended up also ordered onion soup and crab cake as appetizers. Everything on the menu looks delicious
It is a classic spot!
No alcohol without food in NY: What you need to know about ... Do you have to order food with alcohol in NY? Why are NY bars selling Cuomo chips? New rules say no alcohol without food. ALBANY - New York's decision to require bars to sell food in order to serve alcohol came as a surprise to places that have reopened in recent weeks after being shuttered by COVID-19 since late March.Jul 17, 2020. We know its frustrating be we like our liquor license and don't want to loose it
Ood was fine and reasonable. Service was excellent.
