The restaurant has very good food and service, but is cold and drafty. The door never quite closes after customers enter or exit.
Very good service; good food. We ate outdoors and even though there was a heat lamp overhead, it wasn't very effective.
Perfect bistro. Food is imaginative and delicious. Would highly recommend it for any time of day.
French Roast is a fun causal French Bistro with great food and friendly service. The menu features bistro classics like duck confit and steak frite. Highly recommended.
Delicious, excellence service, an easy fun experience!
Best experience in NYC
Prices really fine also :)
Food was delicious. Service was excellent. Wine a little expensive but overall we had a great night.
Good simple food. Service a bit slow and could be more attentive. Food brought to the table to some in the dinner party with some delay.
A quick brunch after the parade. French Roast never disappoints. Great food, great staff and always a good time . Thank you to everyone working today who gave up their Holiday to make everyone else’s Thanksgiving special
Nice to see it as busy as before the pandemic.
Food was terrible.
Thank you for taking the time to review French Roast. We are sorry to hear you were disappointed. May we ask what you had and didn't care for?
Great neighborhood spot with really good food, service and ambiance.
Don't be fooled by the name... this is not a coffee shop! It's a legit French restaurant.
French Roast is my go-to in the neighborhood. It’s always great!
Had to prompt for waiter service after at least 10 minutes waiting. No drinks orders, no food order; just menus from when we were seated.
Food was good and adequate, but nothing super special. Mussels were quite small, esp. for a French restaurant where it’s a std on the menu; broth was flavorful, however. Nobody came to check on us after food was served.
We waited 10 minutes for our table even though we had a reservation. Then we waited for an hour before we got our food. Tables around us ate and left while we waited. The waiter kept apologizing but it was absurd.
We sat outside; the food was great as was the service. The table next to us had young children who were very loud. After they left a group sat down and they were very boisterous. C’est la vie! Food & service A+
Very nice place, just not an extensive menu
Great as always…
Although the food was great, as usual, I was disappointed at the service this time. It felt like we were being rushed. The condiment I requested was very long in coming, so that my burger was cold by the time I got to it. I'll still go back as it is convenient and good value.
Thank you for taking the time to review French Roast. We apologize if you felt rushed, with limited seating we do have to turn tables quickly to ensure all guests get a chance, especially indoors, but we don't want people to feel like they are not welcome.
Tory was an excellent waiter to our table of 5. He was very attentive.
Always enjoy going to French Roast. Although it was not crowded on my most recent visit, the service was exceeding slow. The food was generally good, but my french toast was burned and not enjoyable. I'll give them another chance given past experiences.
Did you alert your server about the french toast? we would have corrected it immediately
We had a wonderful bottle of wine for a good price wine. But the food has definitely gone downhill.
Always lovely! Might be our last night outside dining but we loved it!
I have not been back to French Roast since before the pandemic started. It's so close to home and I was thrilled that the burger was prepared just the way I liked and that when I asked for the fries to be well done - they came just that way. The service was superb and my only complaint was listening to the volume of happy diners having a good time. The creme brulee was yummy but the tart tatin didn't compare well to others' (including my own). I hesitate to sing more praises because I want to be able to get a reservation when next I want to.
We had not been to French Roast for 6 months. We were delighted! Their menu was abbreviated from the old days, but they retained the best dishes and we were not disappointed. My wife had Coq au Vin and I had the Moules Frites. Both exceeded our expectations. The service was attentive, but we were not rushed. We sat indoors, not far from the bar area, so the noise level was loud, though mostly due to a table of 6 guys nearby.
French Roast is definitely on of our reliable UWS restaurants for "date night" and we will be back again soon.
I dine at French Roast at least twice a week. It is consistently good, the ambience is lovely, and the service is excellent. I have taken many friends and colleagues here and have never heard a bad word
One of my favorite NY go-to spots, especially for brunch or lunch. Never disappoints!
Despite a pandemic, noisy and crowded.
We ate outside. The tables are packed onto the small sidewalk space.
Food average; nothing special.
Hostess was so super sweet and nice!
French Roast is my go to place. BUT, PLEASE PUT NICOISE SALAD BACK ON THE DINNER MENU!!! You took it off menu but allowed new to have it anyway, but that may be because you just took it off. PLEASE RESTORE!@
We love this restaurant for brunch! Been going there for years!
Great outdoor seating and a great happy hour. Totally recommend!
Ate early dinner outside - tables well spaced - great Happy Hour value with drinks & small dishes. My friend had the duck on the regular diner menu - said it was excellent - women at next table had same dish and also thought it great. Will definitely return.
I found this restaurant to be very disappointing. They did not have French Onion soup, can you imagine? They did not have the Cote du Rhone we ordered. The substituted bottle was very good, a 2015. The escargot was not buttery and loaded with garlic for dipping bread. I had the Moules w/white sauce, and they were quite acceptable. The waitress was very pleasant, however when I asked for the password to the Wi-Fi she said that she could not let me have it. Would I return, probably not. I never wrote a negative review, unfortunately this pick was disappointing.
Thank you for taking the time to review French Roast. Certainly sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your meal. We were sold out of Onion Soup it takes a day to prepare there is no quick option. the CDR is on back order from France, I'm sure you have seen the news where there are tanker boats just sitting in water and can not dock. Lastly the WiFi is used for our handheld computers and Point of Sales system, it is not open to the public as it holds credit card info and security is important to us.
They have a large outdoor seating area.
The food overall was just fair. Nothing special. I doubt I will go back. Lentil soup and chicken were good but the rest was average to below. Mussels were much too salty and tuna and broccoli were just sad. Disappointed in the profiteroles too. Service was pretty good but the crane at next door construction site was smelly and very loud. The manager had emailed me 15 minutes before our reservation to explain this but that was too late. Not a good way to handle the situation at all.
Thank you for taking the time to review French Roast. We apologize for the issue of the crane but as you were told in the email we ourselves just found out about the change in the dismantling of the crane it was supposed to end at 5pm but instead went on until 10pm, and the moment we did find this out we contacted everyone so you yourself could make the decision to join us or choose another day.
Everything was great except for the loud construction next door which is hopefully short term!
It can't end soon enough for us. Thank you for understanding it is out of our hands
Always reliable- food and service. perfect for lunch with a friend
