Delightful space that has never changed over 20 years. Bistro with nice staff, good value menu and tasty food. Relaxong and a good vibe for lunch for sure
Good food, fabulous service. Every visit to French Roast UWS is a pleasure because of their wonderful, pleasant service staff!
Everything was as expected until the bill came. It included a separate charge of $24 for a course that was part of the Restaurant Week prix fixe. Do they really count on patrons not checking the accuracy of the bill?
First let me apologize for any confusion. If you look at your bill again I believe you will see the cost of the entree is the cost of the Restaurant Week lunch special. The other 2 courses have no charge nor is there any charge on your bill anywhere listed as "Restaurant Week Lunch or Dinner" ...nothing on either the dinner or lunch menu costs $24 so there is noting to ring in that way. We value our guests and certainly wouldn't be in business for 25 years if we were cheating them.
I hadn’t been to French Roast in years so I brought a small brunch group together and did let’s check it out. We had a wonderful time. The food was excellent and your bar staff made the best cosmo in the rocks I’ve had in a long time. We laughed, we ate, we loved it! Thanks for making it fantastic.
Thank you for taking the time to review French Roast. One of the hardest things and at the same time most wonderful thing about being a restaurant that has been around for 25 years is staying on people's radar. We are always thrilled when people think of us and return and have a great time. In these "interesting" times it is a pleasure to bring joy to others .
Great service, but quite pricey for the amount of food provided. Tiny portions for brunch, especially the eggs benedict.
Delicious filet mignon, excellent service. Wife and I enjoyed our New Year's at French Roast!
Extraordinary Classic French Cuisine!! Super service and delicious food!!! Fair prices for NYC
Food and service were excellent as always. We sat outside in the heated area. The heaters unfortunately could not match the cold weather so we were still quite chilly throughout our meal.
The food is always excellent and the ambiance is lovely. My only complaint is our table was in the middle of the floor and we kept getting bumped into. Otherwise it was wonderful.
Very good menu. Good choices with a French theme obviously.
Just right. Food and service were great.
my local favorite for a quick relaxing yet upbeat great French bite to eat or glass of wine. yancy the hostess/manager is amazing and treats me like family. great for groups or eating alone at the bar!
It was a very good experience.
We got engaged! Everyone was so great and the food was perfect!
I ordered the plate du jour for lunch, steak frites. I ordered my steak medium it arrived medium rare (not a deal breaker for me). It was cold though, as if it was sitting out waiting for my lunch mates meal to be completed. I love a good steak frites, but I do not enjoy cold steak.
Thank you for taking the time to review French Roast. So sorry to hear this while we do let our steaks rest before serving so the juices stay intact it sounds like this one may have rested a little too long, we apologize.
Excellent service, good food and nice personal i love it
The restaurant has very good food and service, but is cold and drafty. The door never quite closes after customers enter or exit.
Very good service; good food. We ate outdoors and even though there was a heat lamp overhead, it wasn't very effective.
Perfect bistro. Food is imaginative and delicious. Would highly recommend it for any time of day.
French Roast is a fun causal French Bistro with great food and friendly service. The menu features bistro classics like duck confit and steak frite. Highly recommended.
Delicious, excellence service, an easy fun experience!
Best experience in NYC
Prices really fine also :)
Food was delicious. Service was excellent. Wine a little expensive but overall we had a great night.
Good simple food. Service a bit slow and could be more attentive. Food brought to the table to some in the dinner party with some delay.
A quick brunch after the parade. French Roast never disappoints. Great food, great staff and always a good time . Thank you to everyone working today who gave up their Holiday to make everyone else’s Thanksgiving special
Nice to see it as busy as before the pandemic.
Food was terrible.
Thank you for taking the time to review French Roast. We are sorry to hear you were disappointed. May we ask what you had and didn't care for?
Great neighborhood spot with really good food, service and ambiance.
Don't be fooled by the name... this is not a coffee shop! It's a legit French restaurant.
French Roast is my go-to in the neighborhood. It’s always great!
Had to prompt for waiter service after at least 10 minutes waiting. No drinks orders, no food order; just menus from when we were seated.
Food was good and adequate, but nothing super special. Mussels were quite small, esp. for a French restaurant where it’s a std on the menu; broth was flavorful, however. Nobody came to check on us after food was served.
We waited 10 minutes for our table even though we had a reservation. Then we waited for an hour before we got our food. Tables around us ate and left while we waited. The waiter kept apologizing but it was absurd.
We sat outside; the food was great as was the service. The table next to us had young children who were very loud. After they left a group sat down and they were very boisterous. C’est la vie! Food & service A+
Very nice place, just not an extensive menu
Great as always…
Although the food was great, as usual, I was disappointed at the service this time. It felt like we were being rushed. The condiment I requested was very long in coming, so that my burger was cold by the time I got to it. I'll still go back as it is convenient and good value.
Thank you for taking the time to review French Roast. We apologize if you felt rushed, with limited seating we do have to turn tables quickly to ensure all guests get a chance, especially indoors, but we don't want people to feel like they are not welcome.
Tory was an excellent waiter to our table of 5. He was very attentive.
Always enjoy going to French Roast. Although it was not crowded on my most recent visit, the service was exceeding slow. The food was generally good, but my french toast was burned and not enjoyable. I'll give them another chance given past experiences.
Did you alert your server about the french toast? we would have corrected it immediately
