French Meadow Cafe' - Grand Ave
French Meadow began as the first certified organic bakery in the USA in 1985, baking organic artisan yeast-free breads. Our popular Uptown Minneapolis cafe opened in the early 1990's, and we later opened our Grand Avenue cafe, near Macalester College, in response to a demand for fresh, healthy dining options in St. Paul.
They were very busy on an early dinner Saturday night. Nonetheless everything was well prepared and fabulous. Wait staff was very good. I was on crutches and everyone was very helpful.
The restaurant manager stopped to make sure our meal was satisfactory. Will go there again. One of my favorites.
I really love the diversity of the menu - as the only vegetarian and dairy-avoiding person in my family, with a mom who has a sensitive palate ... there's always something for everyone! I also appreciate the focus on organic, local, and sustainable ingredients. My only wish is for more vegan desserts :)
Great option for Mother’s Day! I loved the omelette of the day! They served it with a salsa that was yummy! The restaurant was neat, clean and nicely decorated.
There was no Mother’s Day brunch, only the regular breakfast menu which is limited but the blueberry muffin was so good it made up for it!
Loud...hard to have a conversation. Service was great. I like the local organic intent. The Healing plate was good, the apple salad was decent, a bit dry. Stuffed mushrooms were mediocre...that should be an easy one to get right.
Food was very fresh, beautifully presented and staff was exceptional,
Always good food. A little too noisy for our elderly mother.
Wonderful restaurant, great food, good ambiance and great service. Lots of gluten free options. Slightly pricey, but good for special occasions.
Great place for a date or any other special occasion
Service was very slow, took a long time to get our drinks even after we ordered them. I ordered soup which was not brought out with the rest of my meal. My daughter had ordered a cake for my husband's birthday, it was not at all what she thought she was getting (they told her is was a white cake when it was actually chocolate - an issue as she doesn't care for chocolate) - staff had to search around for a while to find the cake. Coffee refills were cold - rather disappointed in the overall service on a Sunday evening when they didn't appear to be extremely busy.
always fun to visit French Meadow. food is always good and so is the service not to mention the yummy desserts.
Service was a little off from their usual
Good is excellent with healthy choices
And great desserts
It was a very warm atmosphere with great food at great prices.
Good food and service. Vegan options appreciated.
Our server was very good but it’s noisy in spite of the fact that I asked for a quiet corner.
Great food and service, with lots of gluten free and vegan options to satisfy everyone’s wants and needs.
One of our favorite places. Always an excellent experience.
Met friends before going to see Michelle Obama
1. having grown up in San Diego (where fish tacos were first introduced to the USA in the early 80’s), I can confidently say that if you know what a fish taco is *supposed* to taste like, don’t order from here. These are an abomination. If you’ve never had a REAL fish taco, these are probably fine.
2. The booths are terrible. Very flimsy. You will feel every shift, movement, bounce of the people behind you. And heaven forbid they have children - you’re in for a ride.
Fast service, delicious food. I had made a reservation for the wrong day but they were kind enough to get us in. Great gluten free options!
Our group of eight enjoyed a wonderful meal and outstanding service. Thanks to our server for doing a fabulous job with a large group. She was very attentive without rushing us. The food was top notch too.
Noisy, hard to visit. Soup was tasty but watery. Service very average.
French Meadow is always busy and loud for lunch. It’s a great spot for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Love this spot!
Josh our server was awesome. He was kind, patient and gracious even as the dinner rush moved in.
Lovely ambiance and service. The salmon eggs Benedict was perfect. Great coffee too. And they brought my Freon dessert for her birthday.
While I would recommend French Meadow, I do so only because they consistently offer vegetarian fare. The food is good, although I feel overpriced, but the service is what separates French Meadow from other restaurants. I have never been to French Meadow without thinking it would be aided by adding another waiter to its evening staff.
My husband and I frequently go to French Meadow on Grand for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We love the healthy options, nice wine and beer selections and always have really great service. When the restaurant is full, it may be a little loud, but certainly doable. Parking can be a challenge so allow for extra time to park during busy hours.
Some of our favorites have been the breakfast quesadilla, the elk burger and the zen salad.
French Meadow on Grand is my favorite restaurant and every time I go the service and the food is always incredible. I am a vegetarian and I order a dish that is normally served with chicken but they are always so great at accommodating to my needs. So much love for this restaurant
We had a wonderful meal at French Meadow. Our server was great, brought us out samples of the soup of the day to make a decision on ordering it or not. The soup was great! The only “okay” was the coconut macaroon, just okay
My fiance and I had a great time here! It was our first time here, the food was excellent and the service was good. Plenty of drink options and a nice atmosphere. I would recommend anybody try this place!
The staff was very accommodating. They planned to close early due to weather but called on my reservation to see if we would make it. They said they would honor the reservation no matter what. Great ambiance, perfect date restaurant.
We've been here multiple times and usually the food is very good to outstanding; however, on this visit one entre' (ordered by two in our party) was just "OK".
My friends/coworkers met for brunch. We had great service and all enjoyed our food and cocktails. Definitely will be back and would recommend to others as a great place to eat.
We had a lovely breakfast sandwich. Great server - We’ll be back
Food and service were great. I thought it was a little speedy.
Food was good!
Server had no personality and was border line rude- what a same.
Delicious meal and loved our server!
We had a group with different diets (vegan, paleo, etc), everyone was able to find something they really enjoyed. The mussels appetizer was delicious!
As a vegan with friends and family who are not, French Meadow has been one of my favorite standbys that I can always count on to please a group. On our recent trip, we ordered the Earth Wings, which are typically amazing, but the usual delicious flavor was replaced with a heavy fried flavor instead. I noticed that the house-made vegan burger of the past was replaced (disappointing) with a house-made veggie burger, so I opted for the vegan burger which was listed as a special that evening. Unfortunately, it was the type of vegan burger which would appeal to a carnivore trying to start a "meatless Monday" health kick. It looked and tasted like a medium-rare beef burger. Two bites was all I could handle. I would have ordered the Green Coconut Curry like my last visit several weeks ago, but on that visit I felt that the $4 extra to have a few pieces of tofu added was not worth it. Our server did not bring my drink until the end of our meal, and once we received the check, our waters were not refilled again. As our evening concluded, I stopped by the restroom. As with most recent trips to French Meadow, there was a small roll of toilet paper balanced on top of the empty roll dispenser. There were no paper towels, so someone had left a half-inch stack of paper napkins, which stuck to my wet hands. And there was trash on the floor. Come on, French Meadow, you can do much better. Improve your menu, service, and cleanliness. Convince us, once again, that you care about your customers and reputation.
