French Meadow Cafe' - Grand Ave
French Meadow began as the first certified organic bakery in the USA in 1985, baking organic artisan yeast-free breads. Our popular Uptown Minneapolis cafe opened in the early 1990's, and we later opened our Grand Avenue cafe, near Macalester College, in response to a demand for fresh, healthy dining options in St. Paul.
Excellent food, excellent service, reasonably priced. Wonderful place to take a family.
Food is so good! Lots of positive energy and kind of loud, Wait staff is very helpful and the food came out fresh and hot. Bar drinks are good too!
Perfect for a birthday brunch and they were very accommodating. Will definitely visit again!
Great food, great cocktails
Great food! Loved the (squash) spaghetti and beetballs
Service was incredibly fast. I appreciated it since it was lunch date during regular office hours.
Good food that is fresh and local. Patio area is quiet and comfortable although the sun came around to our table as we ate and got a little too warm. The service was outstanding.
We ordered the coconut cake for dessert and found it to be amazing.
Lovely ambience ; great food with lots of healthy and veggie options. Excellent drinks menu and a large selection of desserts. Service is always friendly and interactive.
Our first time to the St Paul location, we loved it and will definitely be back!
So many delicious gluten free options! Must try the Mac and cheese and the Miso Salmon! So tasty! We will definitely go back!
Lack of butter to make the breakfast more healthy also makes it more bland. Great choice for gluten free options. Service was slow place was protruding empty still had to flag my waiter down to get a coffee refill. Probably be back though since oftentimes with gluten sensitive people.
Good healthy food. Free dessert for birthday! Noisy.
It is waaay too noisy in there. It was not relaxing. The iced coffee and food was very good though.
Great food and service. Loved their patio.
Locally-sourced, fresh and tasty. It’s our favorite brunch place.
The food is good and I have been here in past and been pleased.
Tonight the salad was off, perhaps the lettuce was old. One salad was upgraded to beef so we paid more, but they took the meat toppings on the Cobb off. Still full charge.
Service was so off. One example: After some discussion on the dessert ingredients I ordered it. Later she said they were out. Upon leaving the dessert was in the case. Bakery told me she had requested a different dessert after my checking the GF on the one in the case, which was out. My disappointment is still with me and the ice cream was boring. Bakery offered that I could buy a piece of the one I did not get...that was the final stab as it was French Meadow's mistake. A simple thing soured my experience.
I’ve been a fan of French Meadows for years but was disappointed by this visit, as well as one during the past month. The service on my most recent Thursday afternoon at 2:15 was very slow, without any apologies. We waited 10 minutes for a beverage and over a half hour for 2 simple meals (Mac and cheese and a club sandwich). The food was good but overpriced, compared to other local spots. Wine prices are $10+/ glass. Based on the service, combined with the value, I’ll return only if there’s a special offering. I would recommend reducing wine prices, offering sides without a high up charge, and better service training so servers respond appropriately to delays.
We feel so fortunate to have French Meadow Café right in our neighborhood. The service is wonderful, and the charming manager always comes over to greet us. Three in our family have celiac disease, and the staff at French Meadow are knowledgeable and conscientious about providing gluten-free food. And the toasted-coconut cake is our favorite go-to dessert for special occasions! The back patio also offers lovely outdoor seating. A great place all around!
I love French Meadow. The only thing preventing me from scoring higher was one of the entrees.
My potato flat bread was very good. However my friends Elk burger was dry and overcooked.
Our service was perfect! We absolutely loved the beet salad with added steak and the earth wings!! I love the atmosphere! Can’t wait to go back!
Mathca green tea latte with almond milk was amazing as usual! Had the Zone omelette with all of the yolks and GF bread-YUMMY! Great portion size-no too much, not too little. Will be back for sure!
Server was just ok, didn't tell about daily specials, had to ask for plates, felt rushed.
We keep going back to French Meadow because we support healthy eating and clean, sustainably sourced food. Unfortunately we've had terrible luck with their service. Last night we ordered the mussels as an appetizer and they arrived cold. But before we had a chance to let our sever know our food arrived within minutes of the appetizer. So we started eating and when we fou n.v d the server she apologized and removed the mussels, bringing back replacements as we finished our entres. The entire meal was poorly timed. Very diasppointimg. If we didn't love their food, we would have written them off a long time ago.
My husband and I were absolutely floored by how amazing the food was - especially the "earth wings". I'm vegan and gluten free so this was such a treat, and my non-diet restricted husband loved them too! I got the healing plate and that was so refreshing for Summer. Our server was very good; He gave us our space and helped us when we needed, and was very friendly! My husband kept saying "we gotta make this our new spot" because we were just so impressed with this delicious and nutrition food.
We ate and also pre-ordered a GF cake. The food was good, with enough dressing on the salad and sauce on the eggs Benedict. The waitress patiently answered many questions before we ordered, but once we had the food didn't come back except when we asked someone else to seek her. The cake ordering was a mess. First she said 48 hrs ahead (and the website said that also). Then she said 72 hrs unless needed after 1 PM. When I called to make sure the cake was ready, they could not find the order, but my cr card was charged. They did give me a cake at no charge and the butter cream was fabulous. The cake layers and filling were dry and absent in some places. Also was noisy at 11:30.
We were excited to order the tempeh reuben, since it has been too long! The service was good, the reubens were enjoyable, but everything was a little spendier than it needed to be. We will still be back when the reuben cravings return.
We had an excellent dinner at FMC and ate part of the time outside and then went indoors (a small rain shower). The food was great and they had wonderful vegan options for me. Service was spot on and very moderately priced. I am from CA but if this was a local restaurant for me-I'd be here weekly!!!
Delicious food. Friendly service. Fast service. Always enjoy it.
Food was fine. Upon noticing they had an opening within the hour I made the reservation. the hostess said they could seat us this time but in the future I needed to have the courtesy to call them ahead of time. Ideally the day before to confirm the reservation as their online reservations are sometimes not up to date. Their reservation problems are not my problem. In the future I don’t need this kind of hassle. Probably won’t return.
Recommend French Meadow all the time! It's our favorite place. You'll find us there 1-3 times a week!
They were very busy on an early dinner Saturday night. Nonetheless everything was well prepared and fabulous. Wait staff was very good. I was on crutches and everyone was very helpful.
The restaurant manager stopped to make sure our meal was satisfactory. Will go there again. One of my favorites.
I really love the diversity of the menu - as the only vegetarian and dairy-avoiding person in my family, with a mom who has a sensitive palate ... there's always something for everyone! I also appreciate the focus on organic, local, and sustainable ingredients. My only wish is for more vegan desserts :)
Great option for Mother’s Day! I loved the omelette of the day! They served it with a salsa that was yummy! The restaurant was neat, clean and nicely decorated.
There was no Mother’s Day brunch, only the regular breakfast menu which is limited but the blueberry muffin was so good it made up for it!
Loud...hard to have a conversation. Service was great. I like the local organic intent. The Healing plate was good, the apple salad was decent, a bit dry. Stuffed mushrooms were mediocre...that should be an easy one to get right.
Food was very fresh, beautifully presented and staff was exceptional,
Always good food. A little too noisy for our elderly mother.
We really enjoyed our visit and meal.
Our server was wonderful.
Wonderful restaurant, great food, good ambiance and great service. Lots of gluten free options. Slightly pricey, but good for special occasions.
Great place for a date or any other special occasion
