French Meadow Cafe' - Grand Ave
French Meadow began as the first certified organic bakery in the USA in 1985, baking organic artisan yeast-free breads. Our popular Uptown Minneapolis cafe opened in the early 1990's, and we later opened our Grand Avenue cafe, near Macalester College, in response to a demand for fresh, healthy dining options in St. Paul.
Had Sunday brunch with friends and it was packed. Great ambience, but noise level very high so difficult to talk. Waitress was prompt and service was good. Food: reasonable portions, but prices a bit high. Avocado toast was terrific. Organic Oatmeal was good, as was scrambled egg whites. The "breakfast potatoes" however, were unappetizing gray colored, mushy, and they had a strong peculiar taste.
I love French Meadow. My husband, family and I go here for every special occasion dinner we have. It’s our absolute favorite restaurant. The food never disappoints, the service is exceptional, and the restaurant itself is clean and beautiful. You can never go wrong with French Meadow, both the St. Paul and Minneapolis location.
We had a wonderful experience. We were not rushed. The food was good and the ambience was very festive.
Don’t understand why a Tuna Melt needs Aioli. Earth Wing sauce tasted pretty much like brown simple syrup. Maybe offer some spicier/less sugary coatings?
This was a Thanksgiving meal. We ordered the Traditional Thanksgiving Meal and the food was mediocre at best. The turkey was overcooked, the gravy was bland, the green beans were cooked just right, the stuffing had no flavor, the squash was good but a very small portion. We ordered pieces of pie to go and ended up with slivers. The crust was disappointing---tasting more like mass produced pies at restaurant chains. But the ambiance is always delightful and generally I like the food at French Meadow. I'm not sure I could recommend French Meadow for their Thanksgiving meal.
Great service. Delicious food. Cool spot. Thoughtful vegetarian and vegan options. We had a wonderful meal.
Outstanding as always! Great food, service, and time with my family.
Roasted beet salad is excellent, as is the wild rice soup.
We had a reservation and the staff were ready to seat us immediately when we arrived. Our waitress was perfect and the food, Avocado Toast with Eggs, was delicious.
Always good eats at French Meadow.
We've been to French Meadow / Blue Stem on Lyndale several times. We were surprised the food was not as good. Very little fish in the fish tacos. Bacon on the turkey burger was rock hard. The bun was dry. Definitely not was we expected.
Excellent grilled salmon / apple cheddar salad. Perfectly prepared! Service was a bit disappointing... server rushed us to settle the bill as her shift was over, then we were ignored for over an hour - no water or coffee refills, no offer of dessert, very disappointing.
Seated for dinner at 5:30 pm. This was a first time visit. Food and service were very good. I found the seating somewhat crowded as there was little space between tables. Noise level rose as the crowd increased (to be expected) and conversation became difficult.
Lots of delicious food. Special thanks to Kiera, our server, for recommendations.
Enjoyed the dinner of curry and Soup and Sandwich. Enjoyed espresso and desert after dinner. Nice wine and bread. Enjoyed desert too. Keep up the great work.
The restaurant is very cute and cozy. I made a reservation for breakfast and was seated quickly. I ordered hot chocolate and it was lukewarm. All the items on my plate were also warm, not hot. I tolerated most of that, but asked for them to replace the chorizo, which was done quickly.
While I appreciate the speed of service, more needs to be done to ensure that you are delivering hot food items.
The avocado toast is outstanding! Highly recommend. Everything is good.
Kid is a student in the area and had heard good things. We had a great brunch. Goos service. Took some baked goods to go (delicious). It was crowded, but we had a reservation and were seated immediately.
The poutine was below expectations. The server was distracted. The location was noisy.
I love this restaurant! I love the local, organic food. Our server was so sweet and amazing too, she had such a genuine smile.
The only thing I would like to see more of is "Francais." If it's a French restaurant then even though the food is local, make the dishes French. Even the names would help, LOL! A cheese board is a charcuterie board or a plateau de fromages. The explanations can still be in English, but it would give it that French touch it is missing.
Must be a new chef. My old favorites were not prepared the same way - overcooked and skimpy. Won’t be going back again soon.
The service was outstanding! A great menu with lots of organic and gluten free options!
Awesome as always. Delicious food and lovely drinks.
Perfect place for lunch. Love the salads, soups, bread and more. Service is consistent. We took our time and did not feel pressured to leave. The biggest challenge is parking.
Excellent food and fun little patio setting! Wouldn’t change a thing!
It was overpriced. The blue corn pancake was just ok. It was big but thin and the $8 I paid wasn’t worth it. The $3.25 cup of coffee was ridiculously expensive for what it was. Something went wrong in St Paul with this restaurant.
We enjoyed our dinner. Service was great. Food was excellent.
We sat on the patio on a lovely day. Great choices, food, and service! We'll be back!
This was the first time our group had been placed at the front booth by the door. As another member had commented, we had quite a few flies around our table during our dining experience. Plus the booth seating extends to the door for people that are waiting to sit next to you and your group in that booth. That would be the only bad thing to say. The service and food were outstanding as usual!!
Very noisy in the restaurant but food was good. We enjoyed our lunch.
Overall solid experience. Fun location with a busy street street near Macalister College with several food options. Nicely varied menu. All tasting, perfectly done, delivered hot. Attentive and helpful service. 4 diners, all with different tastes and preferences, and all left with clean plates. 2 drinks, appetizer, entree, $50 a person wiht tax and tip.
Lovely breakfast on the beautiful patio!
Loved the ambience and attentive service. Excellent food is a given with FMB.
We ate at French Meadow for the first time on a Sunday evening. We had a reservation and arrived early but there was ample room to seat us right away, before our scheduled time. Service was very attentive. The Caprese salad with pluots and tomatoes was excellent, as was the walleye with mashed potatoes and broccolini. The ingredients were super-fresh and everything was very flavorful, especially the mashed potatoes-- really delicious! And, my cup of black tea was made with the biggest tea bag I've ever seen. All in all it was a lovely meal and my wife and I agree that we should go back soon and eat there again.
We made a reservation but we got the table right at the front door which is not a great seat in terms of ambiance. There were flies everywhere. It was 50 minutes before we saw any food. Our appetizer was served with our meal. We went with empty beverage glasses for a long time and had to ask for more water more than once. When we did order beverages it took them several minutes to arrive at our table. It seemed like our waiter was in charge of many different things while I saw a hostess just standing and looking bored.
Afew years ago I found this place on TripAdvisor while dining with a "gluten-free" friend and since it has OpenTable, its been one of our "go to" places. Good (not great but good) beer selection. I love the Elk burger and keep going back to that while my wife will try the rest of the menu. The fish taco was not to bad (it has its good and average days). This time she had the Pasta Special, hands down a winner.
A very enjoyable dinner. Everything was fresh and well prepared. I will be back.
Good food, great atmosphere and wonderful service!
Wonderful food and great service! Great if you’re looking for fresh, real food. Great gluten free offering too!
The food was excellent and enjoyed a visit with my friend over good food and ambiance
What a pleasure to enjoy fresh, healthy food sourced from family farms! We will definitely return!
