Freelance Cafe & Wine Bar
The Freelance menu offerings consist of Small Plates, Large Plates, and Daily Specials. The menu remains a touchstone for Modern American Cuisine as informed and inspired by the French Bistro, the Italian Trattoria, the Japanese Izakaya and ever more tastefully global inspiration. We offer a long list of favorite dishes whether that’s French Onion Soup, Thai Pasta, Braised Short Ribs or Classic Crème Brulee, as well as an inspiring selection of wines by the glass or bottle. Rated by Zaget as “ Another fabulous dining experience” the Freelance cafe is a consistent winner.
I guess I'm old school, but i like wait staff that fawns over me. No gets 5 stars unless that happens. It's not a big place, so one "loud-talker" at the bar becomes the ambiance. I had to listen to this guy done on and on about wines around the world and grapes in Russia... Just a tad pretentious if the entire restaurant had to enjoy. Im pretty sure he's a regular, so i suspect the staff is reluctant to quiet him down. At least we learned Russians like sweet wine.
Excellent food & service along the main street of Piermont, a delightful village on the Hudson near great hiking trails. A little pricey, not surprising in a popular day trip attraction.
Not. One. Bad. Bite! What a pleasant surprise-tuna tartare, octopus, thai pasta and duck confit: each one delicious and satisfying.
Always a great choice. Great food and friendly service
Unbelievable food and an excellent staff. Highly recommend
First visit since change of ownership. Service exemplary, pleasant background music, same familiar bar and seating areas. Menu has some old favorites and some new dishes; food good, might be helpful to continue to transition to specialities of the new crew.
The best calamari we have ever tasted. The freshest fish. Good wine choices. Nice atmosphere. Great neighborhood. Definitely somewhere we will return to!
Friendly, attentive service without hovering. Really relaxed atmosphere, excellent food.
It was hard to chose what to eat for dinner, as the menu had so many interesting items.
We ended up enjoying ourselves and we'll be back.
Freelance has been a long-time favorite. Never disappoints. Choice of food is outstanding.
The food at Freelance was fantastic, from the bread to the dessert! My glass of wine was one of the beat I’ve had in a long time, and the meal was delicious. The waitstaff was friendly and accommodating. They didn’t rush us and we’re patient when we had to unexpectedly wait for our 3rd guest to join us. Overall a great experience. We’ll be back!
Incredibly consistent in all critical categories!
Beautiful evening outside. A little tacky to serve different bread after the first roll has been consumed. Carbonara was somewhat bland.
Excellent food and service with a lively vibe (but a bit loud).
Really good food with a very nice selection of appetizers and entrees. Small place with tables close to each other so noisy but would definitely recommend!
Excellent food, highly recommend. Casual and elegant
Absolutely love this place. Fantastic food set in a cozy ambiance. Hidden gem.
We love the restaurant & have been going forever. We found it very very noisy & in fact the music was turned off because you could not hear it anyway. That the ambience was so different was a disappointment.
Terrible service waiting at the door for someone to seat us and no one came for 15 min. Standing and waiting! Never again will I enter this Restsurant
Amazing food amazing staff, definitely my new favorite place for dinner!
Service bad. Food average
It’s restaurant week. Had to request that menu then we were told that everyone at table (4 of us) HAD to order from that menu or else from regular dinner menu. Who makes these rules. ?? If they didn’t want to participate in Restaurant week they didn’t have to
In addition to all this noise level was ridiculous
Only positive thing I can say is that they honored our reservation on time
Not going back
Beautiful intimate atmosphere and super attentive staff. Food was very very good also.
Because of the restaurant size it can be a little crowded inside. Food and service are worth the trip.
A really cute spot to meet friends or for date night. Great wine selection and a nice variety of food. Food was awesome! Had the pear salad, coconut shrimp, rigatoni, thai pasta, and salmon. Every dish was good!!!
We are not connoisseurs, but know what good food should taste like. Freelance Cafe delivers. Oval-shaped bread was warm, fresh and crusty. An arugula pear salad with balsalmic vinaigrette was perfectly mildly bitter/sweet. Scallops apparently broiled in a champagne beurre with perhaps a touch of horseradish in it, were yummy -- the sauce making up for the scallops not being a perfect "10." (We've never gotten fantastic scallops from any NYC area eateries or seafood markets or counters, but rather only at NJ shore eateries where they're fresh off the boat and at the Ramsey, NJ, farmers' market, whose purveyor drives them in directly from L.I.). It came with parmesan risotto and green beans, both just right. A glass of sauvignon blanc from Marlborough (NZ), a touch fizzy and citrus-y, went perfectly. Dessert - a lemon cheesecake with bits of chocolate and nut - was fine, and surprisingly light. Service was good and utterly unpretentious. Requested items were brought immediately. We two seniors split this lunch, and had plenty to eat, for $90, including 20% tip.
Had a lovely evening!
Restaurant was closed at time if my reservation. No notice was provided, no sign on door.
What a wonderful meal. The pasta was amazing and the wine was the perfect pairing.
I hadn’t been here for a few years, but previously it was my favorite restaurant for many years when Peter Kelly owned it. To my surprise the same chef is still there and the food is as good as ever. Will be my favorite restaurant again.
Great staff. Makes you feel like family. Makes you feel like home. Good choices on the menu. Great little bar if you don’t have a table. Intimate setting. Just a great place to have a conversation. We went to meet People we haven’t been able to see for six months. It was a great ambience for catching up
Love the food and town.
Had a very pleasant experience. Appetizer was delicious and dinner were very tasty. Overall very enjoyable. Would certainly return.
Lovely! Excellent food and presentation. Birthday celebration
fantastic food. wait staff is always attentive and on the ball. Probably my favorite restaurant in the area! I’ve been going out for at least 16 years and have never been disappointed
Great food along with an interesting menu. The wasabi crusted tuna is amazing. Service is excellent also. One of our favorite restaurants.
We’ve been visiting this restaurant many times over the years.
Food is very good.
Apart from the attitude of the waiter- great place!
Great menu options with many specials. Grilled octopus, mushroom ravioli and wasabi crusted tuna were excellent. Friendly and attentive staff. Will definitely return.
The service was fantastic, menu was even better. Highly recommend!!! Food was amazing....
