Fred's Hickory Inn
Thu–Sat 11:00 am–10:00 pm
Took my wife to supper for her birthday and we had a very relaxed evening. We split a Romaine Wedge Salad and ordered the Filet and Shrimp Andouille Pasta. All was seasoned and cooked to perfection.
First time to go to Fred's Hickory Inn! It was just perfect in every way... Great service, food and atmosphere. Already planning when we can go back !
Family birthday dinner at one of our local favorites. We’ve been fans for about 20 years now. Always good food.
Had a reservation for 6 people, all from out of town on Monday night only to show up and find the restaurant closed... I guess new hours and no one communicated from OT or Freds. Sure put me in a pinch as the organizer to find something last minute.
Great meal as usual. Brought someone for their first time and it was a hit. Especially the cheesecake!
My favorite place to take friends and family. Just a trifle disappointed in the ribs today - they were a bit dry and chewy
This was a very nice, family oriented place to eat. It's a good spot for just a casual night out or to take a significant other for a special occasion. Would also be a nice celebratory location for a sharing a meal for anniversaries, birthdays, graduations etc. The food was great. The kids menu was pleasing and inviting to the toddler grandchildren we took with us for this night out. All in all a very nice experience with excellent service, atmosphere and food. It is a little pricey on some of the menu items in comparison to other local options, but not way out of market expectation. We will be visiting again in the future.
Excellent meat based meals with impeccable service. Building is old and quaint. Definitely a nice dining experience. Ann was our waitress and she did outstanding.
We love Freds. It’s always good and the service is great.
Delicious smoked sirloin. Never would have guessed it could be as good as prime rib.
Food and service were top notch. Enjoyed the Smoked Sirloin, loaded potato and salad with their yummy Parmesan dressing.
This was our 20th anniversary. Had not been to Fred’s in several years. Only downside was the noise. It was a little loud and our table was near the front door which made it slightly less romantic.
Great food! Just as I remembered! Will always be one of my faves!
Jo was our server and did superb. Food was great! We enjoyed the patio seating with live music. Highly recommend.
The only complaint was that both of our steaks were too salty, to the point we could not finish our steaks. However, our waiter was very polite and apologetic and Fred's Hickory Inn made it right. I would go back for sure and would recommend them, and next time order my steak without seasoning.
service was very good. Much better than it has been in the past. Food was good and satisfying. I had the strip steak and it had to be the best I have ever had there.
Great atmosphere. Great service. Great BBQ - sausage and sauce were outstanding. I really enjoyed the Shrimp Parmesan salad. The shrimp were cooked perfectly, and the dressing was great. We enjoyed the live music. We'll be back!
Waitress, although friendly, was persistent with clearing the table and checkup questions. We were attempting a small birthday gathering for our daughter with family and before she started college and felt rushed to leave. This was frustrating, irritating and unnecessary as the restaurant was not busy. There was no need to rush us as we were quiet and well mannered. Disappointing.
Our first visit and we were not disappointed! We will definitely return.
We love Fred’s and usually have a perfect experience so tonight was a disappointment. Our server was friendly and skilled but something was wrong with the service somewhere. Everything took so much longer than it usually does at Fred’s (than it would anywhere) and we didn’t see our server very often. The dining area was very noisy and full to the point of feeling crowded which was odd for a Thursday. I don’t know if they were under staffed or what. This place is generally wonderful so I’m considering this a fluke. We were taking our parents out this evening to show them one of the places we are considering for our wedding dinner so this was doubly disappointing but we will be back, hopefully to the usual great experience.
We tried this place for the 1st time to celebrate our anniversary. We liked the unigue building and interior but were not impressed with some of the food or service. The stuffed mushroom appetizer had so much cheese and other toppings that there was very little mushroom to taste. We assumed that our waitress would bring complimentary bread as most restaurants like this offer bread and we saw it on other tables. When we asked she said she'd bring it if we wanted it. My soup was brought next(Mediteranean Veggie). I was expecting a broth type soup with assorted vegetables but it had a thick chili consistency and tasted burnt. Our main entrees were brought out next although I was supposed to have a loaded sweet potato and they brought a loaded baked potato. They were quick to remedy this. Both my meat and potato entree and my husband's were good. A little while later the complimentary bread was finally brought out. For a moderately expensive restaurant we were a little surprised that the bread was a hoagie roll that had been spread with garlic butter and cut in slices. My husband and I had water to drink. By the time we were finished with our meal I had about half a glass left and my husband had finished his. Our waitress had never offered to refill our drinks or come by to check on that but finally another person, maybe a manager, came by and noticed. At this point we decided to forego getting dessert not wanting to wait any longer especially if it didn't turn out well. As I mentioned before it was our anniversary and we thought we might be better off just going to a local dessert shop. When we asked for the check the waitress told us that they had complimentary cheesecake for us as it was our anniversary and we just let her know we would take it to go. When we did try it at home it was very good. Though our main entrees and the cheesecake were good we don't plan to come back due to the other things mentioned.
Great food & atmosphere. I miss the shrimp salad with the Parmesan dressing though.
Nice dining experience. Enjoyed the ambiance and the main course was great. I had the smoked pork. The stuffed mushrooms were good as well. The cheesecake was very soft and didn't seem baked, not the best I've ever had but was good.
Food and service was excellent. Had their filets. Cooked perfectly. Been going to freds since the 70s usually not disappointed.
Father’s Day Lunch. Food and service were both outstanding.
Fathers Day lunch 1/2 Rack was awesome. Just right for dry rub.
Good food, but slow.
My family and I said outside on a beautiful night. The love music was excellent and the food delicious. It could not have been a better setting or a better evening.
Although I got a confirmation email and text they did not have my reservation when I arrived but they did set me right away. My seat was right next to he kitchen exit which meant there was a constant flow of traffic around our table.
As for the food: I did not realize that the Sunday lunch was buffet only. That was my mistake. The mashed potatoes and meat were excellent but everything else was subpar. Our bill for two adults and two children was $100 which is too high for any buffet.
Not much to choose from in the dinner area. The beef was extremely tough. The mimosas were deep orange indicating and tasting like practically no champagne. We were seated in the bar but it took a very long time to get our drinks. It took so long to get our coffee at the close of our meal that we almost left. I will say the salad and desserts were good. We were celebrating Mother's Day and a birthday. We felt the price for the food and service we got was a total rip off. Our party of eight will never go there again.
Food was great. Went for Mother’s Day. Was advertised as a brunch but no actual breakfast was served. That was confusing. Otherwise everything was great
Lunch was OK. Dishes came out fast and to order. The burger quality was OK, while the french fries were glued together. The spaghetti was over cooked to my taste (to my daughter liked it as is), while the meatballs were too seasoned and hard.
Overall a good and nice location to eat, with room for improvement on the food quality.
Easter Buffet. Ridiculously over priced at $24 per person. Buffet line was disorganized, plates ran out several times with numerous people waiting and food choices were slim/out of stock. Will avoid this place in the future.
Easter Buffet was good. Meats and desserts were excellent. Could have had more sides and a much better salad choices. Overall was excellent food and would and well worth $24 a person.
Easter Brunch Buffet. It was unorganized. No plates. The waitress ignored us and we did not even get greeted until I asked who our waitress was.... 10 minutes after sitting there watching her walk by a hundred times and look right at me and ignore us. When I did ask who our waitress was, was rudely told someone would get her, then she came with an attitude and and took our drink order and never saw her again until she just dropped the check. Which was way overpriced for what was served. The food was terrible! Not seasoned properly, cold, I couldn’t eat the salad cause the tings for it were laying in it! Yuck! Never going back! Ever.
I always enjoy Fred’s for steak or ribs. My wife usually gets pasta “no meat”. This time it had more veggies than she expected- she really enjoyed it. It probably needed a little more marinara but well worth it - and she would order again. My sons steak & mine were very good - the blue cheese olives with my martini were also excellent together. Since the remodel, I love the newness of the place with accents of the dark wood look. The whole place is old time classy. My only negative is it’s a lot nosier because sound bounces everywhere. They need some sound panels to muffle some of the noise. I always recommend Fred’s to newcomers to the area and educate them on the historical past of the place. My son does miss the old marshmallow mints, but I guess the Razorback ones are ok and more sanitary.
We love this place because you can hear to have a dinner conversation. We tried the spinach artichoke dip which is quite good here - much better than most. The rest of the food was favorites we’ve had before. Good drinks and service too. Fred’s is always a win.
A few mishaps, but the so called manager just simply sucked.
We had a coupon for moving in the area and came to Fred's for the first time. Thought the experience was positive but I feel that the prices are too high. Several other places have comparable food but with much lower prices.
Everything was excellent except where we were sitting the afternoon sun was blinding one of our guests and unfortunately the blind on the window was broken. So, for about 30 minutes it was uncomfortable for him, but otherwise, food was great, service was great, value for what we got was excellent. This was my first time there will be back for sure!
I’ve been to Fred’s twice this week and really enjoyed it both times. It offers an unusual menu with a full smokehouse selection as well as a nice assortment of steaks and a good selection of Italian classics. We’ve had the smoked sirloin that is comparable to a prime rib (this has been my personal favorite meal), the smoked chicken which was amazingly moist and delicious, a perfect filet, sliced sirloin, ribs, and grilled shrimp (these were so salty they weren’t enjoyable but I imagine this was a one off as everything else we’ve had there was super). The seafood stuffed mushrooms and smokehouse sampler appetizers were both great and the creme Brûlée and the blackberry cobbler were fantastic sweet treats to finish off fabulous meals. The service was prompt and friendly both times we’ve visited and I love the classic dining room styling with a nice blend of modern fixtures and photography and traditional design and antiques. The rooms aren’t overly loud which is so nice. You can actually enjoy a conversation with your dinner guests at Fred’s. I will be visiting this place often as it does everything just right and has the kind of comfortable yet refined atmosphere so many places aim for but miss. You can tell why Fred’s has become and remained a Bentonville classic.
