It's been years since I visited this restaurant, and after having dinner there this past weekend, I can't imagine why I've waited so long to go back. Everything was excellent, from the ambience, to the service, to the food. The only thing I didn't like was that they put soda water in my Manhattan. Who does that? Fortunately everything else was so nice I barely noticed.
Really good food, service and ambience. We’ll be back!
Since moving to Tiburon three years ago I'd heard about Frantoio, and on the occasion of my partner's birthday we checked it out. Everyone we came in contact with from the friendly host to the busboy, waiter and maitre d' were cordial and welcoming. Although the menu offerings were fairly standard for this type of restaurant, there were a number of special starter and main options. We appreciated that they were listed in a supplemental card which included the prices so we didn't have to listen to our server recite them (usually without mentioning prices) and getting them confused. I had the Pappardelle w/ Rabbit Ragout as a starter and enjoyed the Risotto w/ Dayboat Scallops (I know that sounds too starchy but I was delighted with both) and my partner had the Spinach Fettuccini w/ Prawns accompanied by a side of Swiss Chard. The offerings were served very hot and the busboy didn't flinch when I asked for extra grated cheese and ground pepper. Although we didn't try any wines, the martinis were perfectly prepared and the Tiramisu (with birthday candle) was light but satisfying. We arrived as happy hour was concluding at the bar, and it and the adjacent seating area were packed with locals. The main room was spacious and airy and the banquette in which we were seated was comfortable and roomy. The atmosphere was warm and the mood was gracious but casual. We'll be hosting a group of a dozen friends for cocktails at our house next month and will probably book the private dining area adjacent to the main room for dinner afterwards. We're looking forward to returning.
Love Frantoio's ambiance, their food and special olive oil pressed on the premises. I had a wonderful Cuori Di Lattuga Alla Caesar salad followed by Ravioli di Funghi, enhanced by the white truffle oil and brown butter-sage sauce. The Panna Cotta for dessert was delicious, smooth and light, embellished by the raspberries and blackberries. I would definitely recommend Frantoio as a place for a light or special occasion dinner. The service is friendly without being too familiar, professional without being obsequious.
First time eating there though I lived in marin for years. I liked it a lot. Food was good, drinks were good. My husband wished his steak had more flavor but the rest was good
Everything was perfect
Been here many times. Consistently good quality. Recommend to anyone looking to dine in Southern Marin
The salmon, potato puree, asparagus, bread, olive oil were great.
The wild mushroom pizza was outstanding! Also loved the grilled shrimp caesar
A very pleasant and unusual Italian dining place. Prices are moderate for the quality. Service was excellent. The room is very nicely decorated without being fussy and the olive press is a nice addition.
We love coming to Frantoio. We are familiar with many of the servers and hosts and know the experience is reliably a great one. Birthdays, anniversaries, Fathers’ Day - you name it! While the food was as good as ever, service on Valentine’s Day was sub par. The place was rather busy, not a typical Wednesday night. Our server, one of their most experienced, was stretched thin and we were left unnoticed for long stretches of time. After 25 minutes with our drinks, the manager noticed us and took our order. Our entrees came while we were only 2/3 through our salads - not a big deal but made for some space challenges on the small table. The to-go dessert we ordered to bring home to our kid was on the bill but forgotten to be brought out; remedied when we asked as we were ready to leave. None of these things are a big deal, but all added up to not the usual wonderful dinner out. We’re still looking forward to our return there - but won’t try it again on Valentine’s!
Don't go on a holiday such as Valentine's Day. The menu was pared down and very small. I found it hard to find something I really wanted. Also, I dislike squash and asked for another green veg that they definitely had. I was told that because it was a busy night, there were no substitutions. Consequently, I left actually hungry. My lamb entree, while good, was $36 and skimpy due to my not being able to eat the squash. Also, consequently, I left with a bit of a bitter taste in my mouth. It is sad because I have liked Frantoio in the past. Will I go back again? i don't know.
Very poor service! After 15 minutes of arrivla at our seats, we had to get up and find a waiter. Then we had to ask for a wine list. then we had to ask for bread. then we had to ask for water refill. then we had to ask for our bill, after a long wait.
Frantoio offers reliably fine food: good salads, housemade focaccia and pastas, various pizze from a wood-burning oven, locally-sourced, seasonal ingredients, fresh fish, and more. All this with attentive service in an architecturally unusual room in which dinner conversation is actually possible.
Fancy that! Easy dinner conversation with friends without having to screech and bellow over the din of the uncouth and inconsiderate nearby. While too many restaurants in the SF Bay Area pass off jammed-together tables and deafening noise as "ambience," Frantoio offers refuge for the civilized diner. It is a great place for a relaxing dinner and conversation with friends.
Italian hospitality at its finest - they love what they do and are happy to share it.
After theater during Super Bowl...great evening with friends from SF and Marin. I can always count on Frantoio.
Always fine food nice ambience, excellent service. Great experience
Excellent service... food not so much... it was just ok specially for the price
Unlike other times we have dined there, the pasta was overcooked and over-sauced. The salad, also, had too much dressing.
All good except service was slow. Very nice waiter, but SLOW.
We dined in the olive press room - very special and fun
Great place as always.
We were there early for New Year’s Eve. Had a great dinner and service was wonderful. Forget about this place because it is off the beaten path, but am going to start going there more. Really liked it. Have two great rooms for parties/events!!
Thanks for a great Christmas eve! see you soon .......
We were thrilled to be seated with our group of 7 in the olive oil pressing room, which had only just finished a few days ago with the annual pressing of the 2017 harvest. It was just quiet enough that we could all hear each other and have a lovely catch-up kind of evening.
We all enjoyed our salads and pastas plus a lovely sangiovese recommended by our waiter.
Ambiance, service and food were excellent! Dined at an early hour. Noise level can be high when the restaurant is full.
Food no better than so-so. Panna Cotta should have been soft and melt in the mouth...instead it was like jello. Nice space, but way too loud. Service was very pleasant, and pretty much timed to our "progress". With all the choices in Marin County, probably will not go back again.
Consistently good food and friendly staff. Nice interesting space and not noisy.
Frantoio has gotten it right for many years. The menu hasn't changed much, and this means they get every dish right, every time. Very consistent, very enjoyable, high quality, lovely room, good service. Don't let its attachment to a Holiday Inn dissuade you. It's a high quality restaurant serving enjoyable meals in a beautiful well-designed room. Wears well over time and repeated visits.
Very disappointing. We have dined here many times and have always enjoyed the food, but this meal was below par. The pasta had obviously been plated well in advance and thrown in the microwave to reheat. The sauce was gloppy. Perhaps it is best not to dine at this restaurant on a Sunday night.
There were four of us. We all concluded the food was wonderful, especially the sweet corn soup. The pretty, blonde English waitress was exceptionally friendly, helpful and attentive. We would visit this restaurant again.
Everyone was so attentive and kind...drinks, apps, and meal was perfectly timed. Everyone went beyond expectations!
Was delicious and fun.
Overall excellent meal and service. First time here and plan to visit again. Had an issue with a few overcharges but was resolved.
Good food, spotty service, somewhat noisy, hostess very professional.
Like Frantoio very much and go there at least every other month.
Great pasta and pizzas! We also had terrific fried calamari and amazing lamb chops. Excellent wine list, scrumptious desserts, need I say more?
We had an absolutely fantastic time. Booth was quiet so we could actually talk. The food was very good but took an awfully long time to come. Also our waiter was very pleasant but totally unaware of time. Put drinks took too long to come and we waited about a half hour for our dinner after our starting course. The atmosphere was so nice and it was quiet so we could talk so we didn’t mind. Others might not be as understanding.
We have enjoyed this restaurant for many years and still do. The service is outstanding and so is the food. Look forward to the new olive oil!
My wife and I live nearby and are regulars for dinners. We like the ambiance, the service, and, of course, the food. The main dining room is usually reasonably full but in no way a hotspot so it is possible for couples to talk. Further, there is ample parking which, in our area, is a major problem.
We always stop here when in the Bay Area. Food and service is great and really nice decor inside. Comfortable and delicious!
