Frank's on First is an Italian restaurant and trattoria. Each day, all of the pasta and dough for the restaurant is made from scratch by the kitchen staff. Frank's staff serves only the freshest ingredients that have been locally sourced, picking up produce from the local markets each day. The restaurant offers casual dining as well as delivery and pickup options.
The menu is predominantly Italian and Mediterranean cuisine. Franks has an extensive pizza and flatbread menu, with several different styles and recipes. Most popular recipes include the napoletana, primavera, and chicken pesto. Beyond that, Franks serves a wide array of pasta dishes like lasagna, baked ravioli, and eggplant parmesan. There is also a fully stocked bar, including a large wine list. The vineyards represented are mostly Italian, with a few California vintners thrown in as well. Don't leave without one of Frank's decadent desserts: the chocolate mousse or tiramisu.
So, after making this opentable booking, we walked to the restaurant. I was very confused, as when we arrived to the address, it was a pizza counter. I thought to myself, "this cannot be where we made out reservation!" Low and behold, there is a door to a dining room in the rear of the pizza kitchen.
I am so glad that we walked through the door, because the food at Franks is absolutely STELLAR. I'm talking about the absolute best chicken marsala I have ever had. I am quite picky about a good marsala and now when I have a craving I will not go anywhere else!! My boyfriend got the chicken parm ad said it was equally as excellent.
When they brought the check, they give little almond cookies that are delicious.
We will be back, frequently!
Staff is always friendly and accommodating. Solid Italian Food.
Great local Italian restaurant, Food is prepared well, staff is accommodating, prices are affordable. We always enjoy eating here.
We had dinner with Italian friends who are great and authentic Italian cooks. They raved about the food. We have eaten at Frank's many times after being introduced by friends who lived in the neighborhood. Always had a great dinner. The shrimp scampi was outstanding.
Franks has been a staple in the neighborhood. The food is delicious, the staff and Owner so friendly - you will always run into one of your neighbors there. Many wonderful items to choose from on the menu. All in all, a perfect place to eat!
A local red sauce Italian food joint. You get what you expect, and it was quite satisfactory. It is also pretty inexpensive. It is also quite a safe place. We ate there on July 4, and it was packed with copys.
Food is very good; service is friendly; varied menu which caters to all tastes.
I lived in this neighborhood for over 13 years and never knew this place was here. Great old traditional Italian food. Will be coming here often.
I've been going to Frank's for years and the longer I go the more difficult it seems for them to reserve a table.
I was in search of a reasonably priced restaurant with good food, and I figured, this place has been here 30 years, it's gotta be at least decent. Boy was I wrong. It was definitely quiet, and we had the entire dining room to ourselves for most of the time, yet the service was horrible! Infrequent visits to the table, servers who barely speak English, and food that was...well, edible I guess, but that's about it. I will never return here and would not recommend it to anyone. Maybe their pizza is good, but at this point, I'm not courageous enough to try.
Food was good solid italian fare! Delicious! Taste like true italian. Great neighborhood spot with 'regulars.' Service was super and we will definitely be back! A Gem!
Old world italian. Neighborhood regulars. Perfect casual dinner. Pizzaria in front home cooking in back.
This was one of the best meals we have had in NYC. Don't let the first impression fool you, the food is fabulous and just like Italy. You definitely can't judge a book by it's cover on this restaurant. We had pizza and pastas, all were delicious. We will definitely be returning here on our next trip.
Been going here for years and it's always the same - which in many cases is great! Food is good, service good, atmosphere old school. I'll be back for sure!
They have a problem reserving a table and although I got the table this time on another occasion they gave the table to someone else and said "well if someone comes in before you and takes the table what can I do?"
The wait staff is not involved in this charade and are excellent servers. The person most responsible for this is the owner's sister. To solve the problem they should honor the reservation or not accept any at all.
I loved it! So what if the service was a little on the slow side, it was wonderful not to be rushed through dinner. The food was good - not over done and not bloating, the wine was reasonably priced and the decor was cute. It's a throwback for sure. Don't expect fancy and dont' be discouraged by the pizza oven at the front. Their dining room in the back is cute and cozy. I will definitely go back again for their pizza and pasta. I loved the fact that it was served with a salad. If you're looking for comfort food in a relaxed environment where you can sit and talk and not be rushed out the door - this is the place!
This is a long-standing, dependable Italian neighborhood restaurant. The food is good and plentiful; prices are moderate and service is friendly and helpful. What more can one want?
