Amazing. Don't miss it. We love Frances and we come all the way from Napa Valley to go here!
EXCELLENT IN EVERY WAY-PERFECT BIRTHDAY CELEBRATION
Consistent, well run with nuance and attention to detail. I leave happier than I arrived every single time.
Frances never disappoints from the food and service, but had we not sat at one of the side tables it would have been very loud and difficult to talk. With that said, we had a server who was excellent with suggestions and comments on options, and we were very happy with the selections. Nothing is left to chance here as it’s a well oiled machine of quality!
Such great food and service. Never had a disappointing meal here. Tables are close (really close) together and it gets loud. But the service is always kind and attentive, and the food is really spot on.
This is our fourth time at francs since it opened. We live out of town but have enjoyed this gem on all our visits. I hate to say it but it is no longer what it started as. The first year it opened and we experienced it was magical. It has now become average. The service is still wonderful. I’m sorry but this was an average dinner with average food
I've greatly enjoyed every meal I've eaten at Frances (despite not loving their "signature" bacon beignets), and my most recent visit was no exception. The wild mushroom tagliatelle was rich and comforting, perfect for a chilly night. The pork chop was cooked just right (kudos to the server for clearly defining the levels of doneness the kitchen would provide for both the chop and the bavette steak), but the star of the night was my seared American Snapper: the combination of fregola (a faro-like pasta), olives and pistachio-fennel slaw was amazing. There was no combination of the ingredients that didn't sparkle on the palate.
I could quibble about the galette not being quite hot enough or the bavette being a little underseasoned, but overall, Frances remains near the top of my list of favorite SF eateries.
We had an excellent birthday dinner for my friend. The service is always wonderful. The panisse frites and maple bacon beignets are solid standbys. This version of the bavette, with chimichurri is absolutely to die for and highly recommended. Also, surprisingly, we dine at Frances and our bill is the same as many other neighborhood restaurants which are not nearly as good. So, while the food is incredible and inventive (the sweet potato soup with sweet potato chips, vinegary mushrooms, and rosemary rivals some of what they have at Atelier Crenn), it is also really good value for money.
We were glad to have a table on the side where there was more room. The other tables are too close together and make for an unpleasant dining experience imo. Our server Jerry was very gracious. The savory beignets were delicious. Really enjoyed the tagliatelle with mushrooms. Polenta was also very good. All around an excellent meal.
Our experience at Frances was outstanding. We enjoyed exceptional food, friendly and professional service, and a stylish but low-key atmosphere. I recommend it highly!
