Frances, the namesake of Chef / Owner Melissa Perello's grandmother, is nestled between Noe and Sanchez on 17th Street in the heart of the Castro. This new addition to a bustling neighborhood hopes to lend a warm and comfortable space in which to enjoy its ingredient-driven dishes paired with a tall glass of wine. The menu changes frequently, ever-aiming to showcase the season’s finest offerings.

Frances supports the shortest distance between the source and the table, bringing its guests local, sustainable and organic products when available.

The food was delicious and the service attentive. The portions were small by San Francisco standards but the bill was not. There are many restaurants at this price point that are more satisfying.

Frances is still at the top -returned after a few years and the same great people are still there! Clams, and Black Cod were perfectly cooked-great choice of wines to go with each dish. Very good vibes at this Castro location. The very best service and food-Thank you Melissa Perello!

Went for Valentine's Day. The menu was great, really enjoyed the steak and the pasta. The dessert was a chocolate torte, my wife thought it was a bit dense/dry but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

I have been to Frances several times and enjoyed it each time. This last visit, however, was a huge disappointment both in food and service.

Fabulous in every way — well, it could be a larger space, but nothing really needs to be done to this top notch restaurant.

It's all very nice. But it's expensive, loud (why do restaurants have to crank the volume up?) and I left feeling hungry. Went home and popped some popcorn. The salad I ordered was underwhelming and forgettable, albeit clean, fresh and beautiful. The pasta I ordered was delicious but about 1/3 of what I needed -- and I'm not a big eater. Next time, I'll cook at home! The food's better and much less expensive and you don't have to shout to be heard or have a hearing aid to hear.

Kitchen wasn’t very accommodating for food allergies. With so few options, probably not coming back very soon.

After trying to get a reservation at this restaurant for months, we were disappointed in the overall experience.
The food, although very creative, was extremely salty. Both the chicory and kale salads were so over salted they were difficult to eat and the taste lingered so long on our palates that we were still tasting the salt hours later. The Black Cod was delicious as was the lovely, chocolate cake.
Parking in the vicinity of the restaurant is non existent, so allow extra time.
The restaurant is small - which normally makes the experience more intimate however, the tables are so tight toward the back of the restaurant that it is impossible to have a conversation without including your neighboring diners.
