   With not drinks, we ended up paying 100$ each which I think is a bit overpriced for the quality of the food. The duck was great but the steak was a bit overcooked, the spaghetti were not as tasty as expected, and the lumberjack case was just okay. I was surprised to see that they charge you for bread.

   They know how to ruin an otherwise lovely tasting menu by serving everything too fast. The soup came out before our wine did. The food was coming out so fast that there wasn't even enough table space let alone time to enjoy it.

   Great service and food. It was our anniversary and we couldn’t have a better meal and service. Definitely one of my top meals ever. We went with the chef fixed meal and bottle of Matthieu Coste Pinot Noir. My only reason for not giving it an overall five star is how close the tables to each other. It was hard for us to have a private chat with the next table less than 2 feet from us

   Tables were all very close together — someone who sat next to me had extremely pungent perfume that hung around for my entire meal. My waitress wasn't friendly and bumped into me twice (due to the close quarters of tables). Half of my meal was tasty, half was bland.

   Great variety, powerful flavor combinations. We tried all of the desserts, and even the one we weren’t as excited about (from the description) was absolutely terrific! Menu is always unique and inspired, love this place!

   I took a client out to eat and it was a lovely experience. Service was impeccable. Food was delicious and super exceptional with some requested fresh lemon and ground pepper. Dessert was creative and different. I’ve been 3x in the last 15 yrs and would definitely go back. Keep up the good work, Frances!

    We have been to Frances many time. Unfortunately this was the least favorite of out mr experiences. The server was good and the ambiance is always great. The entrees were dry and lackluster. Both the duck and the sole were mediocre at best. The potato side to share was good. The beans weren’t very flavorful and missing the bacon component.

    We chose Frances to celebrate Valentine’s Day, and as seems to happen regularly with special pre fixe menus (same exact dishes for everyone with no course variation selections), the food was just okay. The duck entree was really mediocre, fatty and strange taste. Several courses were barely lukewarm (pasta and quinoa side, duck especially noticeable). First course was fantastic, delicious dessert, everything else pretty meh. The service tho is phenomenal. We’ll be back but not for a holiday static menu .

    A spectacular special Valentine's Day prix fixe menu. Wonderful variety, generous portions, prompt and very cheery service. We especially enjoyed the scallop toast, crab salad, roast duck, cauliflower soup, and a red velvet cake with raspberry ice. (The excellent Vincent Pinard sauv blanc, recommended by the server, was an added treat.) The only minus points were for something nobody could help: we ate outside, it was a very cold night, and the heaters didn't do the trick. Othwerwise, no complaints, just praise. We'll be back.

    My partner and I loved our meal at Frances, what a fantastic date night spot. The highlights for use were the cauliflower soup, Dungeness crab campanelle, yellow foot mushroom reginette, and the black sesame cake. The service was phenomenal and attentive, and they still have the nicest bathroom of any restaurant in SF!

    It was our first time dining at Francis. It was definitely one of the best meals we’ve ever had. The ingredients were fresh and high quality. The little gem salad was light and had wonder flavors. The pasta appetizer was delicious and al dente. My mahi mahi entree was perfectly cooked and tasty. The chocolate dessert added the perfect finish to a fantastic meal— not overly sweet or rich. I can’t wait to come back again!

    The food overall, was quite good. The chickpea fries do not disappoint. The greens were perfectly dressed, crisp and vibrant. All courses were beautifully presented and well prepared. Some of the dishes, most notably the seafood courses seemed disjointed with the theme of the restaurant as a high end, local and sustainable establishment. The appetizer course had a rockfish crudo that was either not fresh or the rockfish was not the proper selection for a crudo. The product was not "fresh like the sea" but the fishiness was overpowering. The salmon entrée was well prepared with New Zealand Ora King salmon (considered to be the Wagyu of fishes) but seemed like a pedestrian protein choice for such a talented staff. For a restaurant that prides itself on sustainability and with the skill level of the staff I was surprised it was not serving something closer to home such as Mt. Lassen Trout or even Arctic Char farmed from the Pacific Northwest.

    Amazing meal start-to-finish! In fact, when we were finished we wanted to start again, even though we were full. Service was great and super-accommodating of my allergies. The Chef’s family-style dinner is a great and tasty experience!

    Disappointing. The new inside space is far too crowded. Staff and customers are falling over each other from the poor design. If you like traveling in economy class seats you will like the seating at Francis. On the other hand the servers do their best to work in an environment with too many seats. Food is good, not great. Very simple presentations but the same dishes are better elsewhere. Even though the dishes are simple the kitchen seems to struggle getting them out quickly or with any pacing. Some came all at once and some, like the prime rib took so long it was cold when it arrived. It’s unfortunate but this is like some other restaurants that are not what they used to be.

    Second time ever, but first time since the pandemic happened. We loved it for an early Christmas dinner with family! My only qualm was that in the beginning the serving felt a bit rushed, but it improved over the courses. My favorite was the mushroom pasta and the salad. Pasta was so much umami, salad so refreshing.

    We always have a top notch experience at Frances. This was our first experience with a tasting menu, and part of the delight was enjoying flavors and items we may not have typically ordered. I’ve never been even the slightest bit disappointed with Frances’ offerings, ambience, and service. A meal at Frances is a guaranteed special occasion!
