Celebrated my birthday with a great friend. Frances embodies all of the attributes I value in a dining experience.
Tried the chef's menu for$65 a person and got a ton of just amazing food. Truly one of the BEST restaurants in SF.
Everything was perfectly prepared and very tasty
Excellent service enhanced the experience of enjoying exceptional food. We will definitely be back!
Perfect neighborhood restaraunt, delicious creative food, warm service, simple but elegant environment. One of our favorites in SF
Great service. Each food item had interesting flavors and textures but overly salty. Tables are situated very close together and conversations were quite loud, so not the intimate environment we were hoping for.
So great, as always.
Very nice food , original and tasty and the bread is sooo good . very nice staff and service. as always in SF, noise level remains high .
My first time at Frances and all of us were super impressed with the food & service. Tables were a little tightly packed, but the vibe was great! The servers were patient, kind, knowledgable, informative and fun all at the same time. Every dish (our party of 4 ordered a total of 10 dishes) was unique and flavors were amazing. Every one!
Will take more friends and out-of-town guests here whenever possible. Highly recommend!
Great neighborhood restaurant, always friendly and the food is fantastic. No matter is you are seated at the counter or at a table, the experience is wonderful...I am going to make Frances my go to restaurant for fun meals with friends an family.
WE booked a "table"5-6 days in advance, but instead were given a bar seat! They should not offer reservations for tables if there are no available tables-very devious and unprofessional.
A wonderful evening. Expert staff and a beautiful menu excellently prepared. Go!
Frances has been one of our neighborhood favorites for years - so it was a sad day to dine at Frances and have such a terrible food and service experience. We both had the kale salad as a starter - nearly inedible - so highly salted it made your mouth pucker. Move onto the entrees - pork chop and gnocchi - again both so heavily salted that both dishes were inedible. Service started strong - but as soon as the restaurant got crowded our waiter was nowhere to be found. We finally had to wave him down to request our bill (we specifically indicated on our reservation and confirmed again when we arrived) that we had to be out the door by 7 pm to catch a show - and our waiter assured us no problem. No questions asked when the entrees were nearly untouched.
Frances WAS a restaurant we highly recommended to all visiting friends and family - sadly - that is no longer the case. I continue to root for Frances - and hope they get back on track - it has been such a great part of our neighborhood dining experience for years!
Wonderful all around
We come every year on our anniversary. Everything is perfect, every time. Insanely good food, incredible staff. Highly recommended.
Went to Frances to celebrate my birthday and it exceeded expectations. We went with the tasting menu which included everything on the menu we were eyeing. Incredible! Can't wait to go back.
Outstanding food experience. 4th time and best meal yet. Lots of courses and no duds truly exceptional this place still hitting on all cylinders after the years. Go now if you haven’t tried this new institution of great dining.
Consistently one of the best meals in SF!
Cozy like a chic neighborhood restaurant but with exceptional food by neighborhood-restaurant standards!
We both enjoyed the Chef’s tasting menu. Phenomenal meal! Wonderful prep & presentation. Perfect portions. Our best dining experience in recent memory :-)
Amazing as always. The wait staff is very friendly and helpful. The food is delicious, always get the soup of the day, it's amazing every time.
WOW - I had been wanting to try this restaurant for some time and it absolutely did NOT disappoint! We opted for the tasting menu with included their favorite hits along with some special treats from the chef. Excellent wine list and fantastic service. We will be back again!
Great food and service. Will come back happily.
Frances has amazing, creative food, really exceptional waitstaff and an intimate atmosphere. I was nervous looking at previous reviews mentioning the tables close together and while that was true I never found it overwhelming. I would highly recommend Frances for a celebratory dinner or romantic date
We had a great meal and terrific experience at Frances. The food was delicious, as always, and the staff really went out of their way to make us feel welcome, in addition to providing great service.
Excellent execution of a well curated, albeit limited menu. Don’t miss the Bouchees, especially the Panisse Frites and Bacon Beignets. Lovely Prosecco by the glass, too. The pork chop is the best ever, anywhere.
Just not that great. Very noisy, service was very slow, an hour between app and entree
The food was perfect. The waiter was helpful and pleasant. The ambience is casual yet quiet and relaxing
I was very disappointed in the food. I ordered the gnocchi. I received 3 slabs. That is not how gnocchi is generally served. If they were trying to be inventive I’m fine with that but the waiter should have let me know that I was not getting what I expected. When it arrived I thought they brought me the wrong meal. I actually never want to have gnocchi again. Very sad. Especially because this was the one special place I picked for our trip to San Francisco.
A very good meal. We had the tasting menu. The portions are a little on the smaller side but well done and tasty nonetheless. A very good wine list. Recommended for sure.
I am just grateful that Frances is here. Thank you. Every visit makes me very happy. Thank you again.
Frances used to be my go-to: you could always count on good food and good service. I loved that Frances prided itself on being a neighborhood restaurant that focused on delivering value. Sadly, as things go in this City, prices go up and quality goes down and, ultimately, we get less and less value. Same is true at Frances. From the all-reservation only dining room to charging for bread, it's no longer the charming neighborhood restaurant it once was.
Some specifics from our last visit: $200 for 2 people who had one drink each makes me think of Frances as a special occasion restaurant; which no longer warrants "it's-Tuesday-and-there-are-probably-open-seats-so-let's-go-to-Frances" visits. Besides, our food was overly salty - which has been an issue our past 3 visits.
Frances never disappoints. The food is always perfect.
I always get the soup. This time I also asked for the soup for dessert.
Loved everything about Frances. Cannot wait to eat there again!
Amazing food experience. The tasting menu between 2 people definitely worth it. The house wine was prrfect as well.
Great food, friendly staff but felt rushed thru our 4 courses. We asked to hold our entrees so we could finish our white wine but the waiter explained that the kitchen was determining the pace, not the guest. That to me is a big faux-pas, and I pitty the guests who decide to try the 10-course sampler menu as they bring out two courses at a time.
Friendly staff, great food, fun atmosphere, but cramped space. My friend and I opted to eat at the bar instead of the close-together tables and felt like we had more room. Very nice place overall and definitely worth a visit. Would go back.
We had a great meal but there were a few plates that were super salty. Service was great.
Lovely gracious experience from start to finish. Innovative cuisine knowledgeable waiter charming hostess great smart casual patrons and vibe.
