The food & the service were very good. We did not care for the stools we were sitting on.
Overall good experience.
Excellent food! Relaxed athmosphere. Highly recommended!
This restaurant remains one of the best places to get excellent California cuisine in San Francisco
Melissa was our server and she was great. My second time dining here...will be back for a third!
My husband and I have been going to Frances for the last 7 years. Every time we go to Frances, it gets better and better. The food is outstanding and the staff is simply amazing. Sarah always makes our dine experience the best. She knows every single dish and provides with the best recommendations.
Frances is one of the best gastronomic jewels in San Francisco.
The food is delicious. However:
We recevied our entrees an hour after sitting down. It wasn't what we ordered and took another 15 minutes to change out. We ordered dessert, and after 25 minutes gave up and asked for the check. At this point we had been seated for 2+ hours in a cramped area and it just wasn't worth it. We got a chocolate cookie for an apology, Of note, the tables on both sides of us turned over, twice.
I would chalk this up to an off night, however the EXACT SAME THING happened to me at Frances 4 years ago. Yes, the wrong entree, the crazy delay on dessert, other tables receiving food and service while we were overlooked, the chocolate cookie apology.
Frances has great food. So do many other restaurants in SF. I can't recommend dining here.
Absolutely delicious food! The service was stellar and the staff were very attentive and accommodating
Francis has delicous food, although their main entree portions are perhaps too large. We variously had duck, beef and halibut which were amazing. For three we also got the corn and carrot sides, but we couldn't do them justice as we were stuffed from attempting to finish our entrees. While nicely decorated, the space feels over-stuffed. They'd do well to cut back on portions size to attempt to fund the removal of a table or two. The wedging of so many people into a tight space makes it too hot and too loud. Their 'wine by the inch' concept, however, is absolute perfection...
We did the tasting menu and it was amazing. My favorite the the bavette steak. The wait staff are amazingly friendly and helpful.
Excellent food&service. Everything was just perfect.
Always a great place for exceptional food and San Francisco ambiance.
A wonderful meal with family and friends, first time for some, we’re regulars. Everything was delicious, from the beignets to desert. Of twenty or thirty times we’ve gone, always beautiful and delicious meals.
Great food and excellent service
We had the tasting menu . So delicious !!! From the bites to dessert ! I love this restaurant . Never dissapoint !
Value is upheld at Frances-so nice to go here many years and they are better than ever. Very generous tasting menu with big 1/2 pours of wine-service is genuine and caring. Great destination, wonderful experience always.
Excellent food. Good service. Intimate physical space. Expensive.
I had the tasting menu which was outstanding, as was the house red wine by the carafe. Everything was especially good and the service was warm and attentive, available to help at all times but never intrusive. Highest marks for Frances!
Amazing like the last time! Thanks! I will recomand and come back for sure!
Always a wonderful experience! The beignets are an absolute must. Their wine by the ounce is amazing value.
This is a very tiny place! Everything was excellent, they took very good care of us for my husband's birthday dinner. We had the tasting menu, which was a steal at $65 per person. Everything was cooked to perfection, and the service is top notch. Could not recommend enough.
Fodd and service were great. Small space but atmosphere was lively and energetic.
The food was really yummy. Service was attentive and they acknowledged our anniversary, which was nice. The tables for two feel a bit on top of each other, but we actually ended up having a nice conversation with the couple sitting next to us. I'd definitely go back.
Great food. Warm and knowledgeable wait staff. Very hospitality focused.
For his 76th birthday, my husband requested dinner at Francis -- it was my first time. The service was excellent, informed staff and attentive, although the bread person kept walking past us without stopping. The décor is minimal, and the restaurant is very noisy. Fortunately our table was to the side, so we were able to hold a conversation without shouting, which many patrons seemed to need to do. Both of our dishes were interesting and flavorful, but neither was exceptional. The duck was chewy, with a string of tendon that was hard to cut even with a steak knife. The halibut was perhaps a bit overcooked, not flakey and melt-in-your-mouth. The birthday candle with dessert was a nice touch, and overall we certainly enjoyed the meal. But return -- probably not, with the number of excellent restaurants in San Francisco.
Amazing food and service as always. Unfortunately., they kicked us out of our table as the next seating was there. Not very classy.
Brought my family in and they loved everything! We had a wonderful time!
Honestly, this was one of the best meals we have ever had. Can't say enough ... everything was fresh, awesome, and well presented. Will never come to SF without dining at Frances
Impeccable service and every item on the tasting menu was outstanding. Also, the suggested wine pairings were perfectly balanced with each course. Superb all around!
Food, presentation, service was exquisite. I was way late due to transit issues and they were kind and welcoming.
Frances offered a tasting menu the evening we dined. Eight courses for $65; a great deal for really excellent food.
Delicious dishes from start to finish. Great portion size for the $. Very helpful server. He made us custom mocktails that were outstanding. Will definitely be back soon.
The tasting menu was amazing - a true taste of items on the ala carte menu, which gave us the opportunity to try different things. All of the dishes were amazing.
I'd recommend Frances unequivocally to almost anyone who loves fine dining and can afford it. The food is thoughtful, season and varied but not too crazy. The way they do the house wine is perfect if only one person wants wine. The layout is funky and they make the most of the "alley space" but a great little restaurant with a friendly vibe.
Attentive service & good food
I loved the food and the experience so much bur I had a hard time hearing what the person across the table was saying. Might just be me, but I found it hard to hear anything. We both commented on it as we left. Well worth it, though. Such gorgeous and delicious food. What a delightful experience.
The food was incredible. We had the tasting menu, which I highly recommend.
Excellent service, non-pretentious but intersting dishes. I would highly recommend going with the (off menu) tasting menu.
Frances never disappoints! The beignets are fantastic, my duck was the best I’ve had in my life and both desserts were phenomenal. Can’t wait to come back
Lovely food and friendly server. Great place for all occasions with your loved ones!
Stellar farm-to-table New American. Amazing flavors.
