Everything was delicious! Very cute atmosphere inside too. Will definitely be back!
This is a lovely little spot in the heart of Shadyside! Our second time dining here and on both visits, the food was perfectly prepared and served! Our reservations were for dinner on Mother's Day. We were promptly seated upon our arrival. Mom was wished a Happy Mother's Day and provided with a card and a beautiful long stemmed rose. A very nice gesture! We began with the charred lettuce salad wedge that was large enough to for two to share. Our three entrees were from the special holiday limited menu. All were perfectly prepared-the stuffed chicken breast, the seasoned pork chop, and the crab cake. Beautifully plated and delicious! Even a complimentary creme brulee for dessert! This is a new favorite spot. We'll be back!
This was such a lovely choice for Mother’s Day! Peaceful with tasteful music and a cozy ambience. I had called ahead because I was bringing my 94 year old mother and we had to prepare ahead for steps. We were greeted at the door by a lovely hostess who was prepared to assist us in getting settled. It couldn’t have been more welcoming! Add to that a fresh rose and a lovely note card for the owners and I was smitten.
Thank you for a lovely day out!
Menu is way too limited. They don’t have daily specials, so what you see on the printed menu is what you get. Menu not particularly inventive, nor is it one that makes you want to return. Atmosphere is welcoming and the interior is attractive. The food quality and selections leave much to be desired. Entrees look more like what one would find on a college cafeteria menu and prevention. Wait staff was very friendly and competent. Overall I was glad to have had an opportunity to eat at this restaurant but will not be recommending it to friends or rushing back.
A charming neighborhood restaurant.
Excellent food, excellent service and the value was great. We've been to many restaurants that served this caliber of food but for the price...this was the best.
Surprising little gem with European flair.
Went for brunch on a Sunday with another couple and sat outside.
The staff could not have been nicer nor more accommodating.
Food was delicious as were the drinks. Fancy old world utensils and glasses add to the ambiance. The salads were inventive and super fresh!
We tried a couple of different menu selections including the she crab risotto and the salmon preceded by some dolmathes. All were excellent with sufficient portions.
The food was good - some dishes excellent (steamed buns) - some not quite there (grilled peach salad with peaches that were not ripe. The service will hopefully get there, but for now is disappointing. There were only about 20 people in the restaurant when we dined, and yet we needed to repeatedly flag down the wait staff to order, get a 2nd drink, etc., and our food didn't come for almost an hour - and when it finally did one dish was cold.
Love the ambiance here. The brunch menu was small but very good. I will be back for dinner
the brunch we had was very good and the food prices are very fair, the drinks were also very good but drink prices are little steep.
Service and ambiance were very good, but we found the food to be average at best. A stuffed chicken dish with no stuffing and a floury “sauce”, a grilled peach salad with very underripe peaches. Good cocktails and coffee
Nice restaurant with great food and great service. The small plates are not too small and the food is delicious. I had the crab cake and enjoyed every bite.
Our food was delicious, service was attentive and polite. We had a great meal in beautiful surroundings.
A must try. I don't have a bad thing to say. Wednesday date night is fantastic. $50 for a 3 course meal and bottle of wine included! So much value and a relaxed setting to enjoy a meal with someone.
My wife and I had a pleasant dinner at Frances. It is cozy, the background music is subdued, the adult beverages were excellent and the food was superb. We would go back in a "heart beat" if we lived in Pittsburgh.
It was very pleasant and the ambience amazing! Every detail is made with taste! Food was really good too!
We will be back!
Amazing dining experience! It doesn’t get better than Frances!
One of the best restaurants I've been to!
This was my first time at Frances and I’ll be back. The Beef Wellington was delightful!
Will definitely come back!
Great food, location and ambience for date night. Our first time there and we will be back.
Server was wonderful. Polite, friendly and professional. Food was excellent. Meatballs were a bit cold. Risotto, dim sum buns, lobster ravioli and lamb chops were excellent. Sat outside.
We had a birthday dinner at Frances, food as usual was delicious, I had the beef Wellington beautifully done, savory and hot throughout, with a side of wonderfully done broccoli; my father had the rags and beef, a staple for the restaurant for sure, always always delicious, and my mother, a very finicky eater, had the fillet grilled to perfection over a bed of garlic mashed potatoes, with a cauliflower and broccoli medley. Waitress was very nice and attentive, without being overbearing. Nice wine selection. Always a good stop.
Went for Wednesday special. Pasta was way over cooked and tasted like it still had the cooking water in it
Delicious food, creative cocktails, very good service and a charming atmosphere all combined for a wonderful evening at Frances! This was our first visit and we were very impressed! Looking forward to returning!
wasn’t a fan of the lobster ravioli but everything else was great
Great food - great atmosphere - great staff. The cocktails are fantastic too!
This was possibly the best dining experience I have had in pittsburgh!
We had a pleasant dinner at Frances, dining outside. The food was good - we had mussels and moussaka. Both tasty. the service friendly and efficient. Our only complaint was that the scotch pours were skimpy. We would go again, especially if we did could eat outside.
Excellent meal!! I love small plates and they had many to choose from. Actually had a hard time making up my mind. The lamb chops were amazing and I would get them again.
A truly enjoyable dining experience. Moderate to high priced. Great service.
Frances is an understated execution of perfection in culinary magnificence. It is a casual, welcoming, tucked away treasure that every element from food to service to decor and glassware, compliments the other for a complete and wonderful dining experience. Every dish I've had has been superb, and beyond my and my guests expectations. Can't say enough good things about this place.
Frances is the best of the best. My fourth time dining there and the food was as exquisite as the first.
Wonderful food and ambiance! Very quaint and good service
We went for the Wednesday date night special and it was incredible! We ordered the shrimp buns for an app, the rags and beef pasta (so filling) cream brûlée for desert, and Tempranillo bottle of wine. Both of us left so full and the food was delicious.
What is a pleasant evening and made our Valentine's Day so much better, the food was exquisite and the atmosphere was relaxing and calm. The service was attentive and polite.
Food was high quality and the restaurant was very intimate. However, they did not seem to be following strict COVID-19 guidelines.
I made a reservation and didn’t know it was a set menu for Valentine’s Day. The meal was quite expensive and almost too much food. Don’t get me wrong, the meal was excellent. But I wasn’t anticipating spending that much money or having limited options. It definitely wasn’t worth $100 a person. They should’ve notified us after making a reservation about the cost/menu. I made the reservation a month or so beforehand due to Covid and restaurant restrictions so I didn’t think much of it.
Everything was great for vday. Never leave reviews but this place is just what I’m you want for date night.
