The standard at this pub never alters, always first class, the food the staff the cleanliness and the ambience
Long may it continue through these difficult times.
Always amazing here, food is incredible and Cassidy is the greatest waitress.
Lovely country pub with good range on the menu and the food is delicious. Also very dog friendly....win win!
Food was outstanding. So good we’re coming back in the New Year. Service was good, staff friendly. There wasn’t much atmosphere due to the covid restrictions but I can imagine it being full of people. A really lovely meal - compliments to the chef !
Lovely old pub, welcoming staff and excellent food.
Great food, friendly staff, good service and nice venue.
A nice little pub with a good wood burner. My friend had chicken and wild mushroom an excellent choice it was very tasty. Oh dear, I had the liver and mash which was a disappointment. The waitress enquired how I wanted the liver and a request for rare was interpreted as very over cooked, the mash contained a large lump of glassy potato. But what the heck they were being shut down for another month. I will dash back to the South Hams Devonshire without the memory of a disappointing meal. The three gentlemen on the next table probably were Probably as deaf I am so had to shout and laugh very loudly at each other drowning out my friends conversations.
Booked a table for 6 on Halloween as part of our Pirate ghost walk.
Very friendly staff, felt homely and inviting.
Good selection of ales including a local brewer.
Food arrived promptly and portions were huge.
We will be going back....one day.
Very good food. Lovely atmosphere and the girls serving were brilliant
Fantastic pub with good quality food, good selection on menu and drinks. Lovely atmosphere and great open fire. Highly recommended and looking forward to our next visit 😁
Lovely Sunday roast, very welcoming staff and dog friendly!
Lovely little country pub with a friendly local vibe. Great experience on arrival, explaining their Covid rules nice and clearly. Brilliant service. Lovely food, which you could tell was freshly made, and decent portions. Very child friendly too. Definitely recommend.
Great pub, really nice atmosphere and friendly service. Definitely be going back.
Overal the meal was very good and the presentation of the Restaurant was very good. However the service initially for drinks was poor but did improve a bit with the meal. We would consider returning again at some time in the future.
Excellent service, freshly-cooked, hot good quality food. Very well organised in line with current requirements. Overall a very pleasant experience
Warm welcome, friendly service throughout, but with only another couple in the restaurant it was a bit too quiet. Also the decor lets the good food down, which is a shame. If I were to suggest it to a friend, I would warn them what to expect in terms of the space and that it needs an upgrade.
Super little pub, really liked the table service and no use of an ordering App, food was excellent, we had prawns then mackerel salad and a giant pudding.
Lovely staff, but the youngsters went home at the end of their shift and we were left alone, just needed a seemless transfer!! Will go again.
Just called in en route to Dover .Had a very nice lunch which broke our journey up . Food was very good although service a bit slow, very pleasant young man served us.
Excellent Food - although we had to wait some 15-20 minutes (which we were told was to prepare the fresh meat burgers), the wait was worth it as the food was very well presented and very tasty. Excellent home made burgers which crumbled. Nice homely atmosphere. Will go again.
Lovely food good service and nice atmosphere could benefit with some music
Great little pub. Friendly staff. We went Saturday and Sunday night. Food was good. Would happily return.
Good food, pleasant waitress, not many diners when we visited so didn't get a real feel for the pub. Would visit again though.
A great choice for good traditional pub grub served quickly and attentively
It was standard pub food : well presented .
I had delicious vegetables with my fish pie , which was very average .
My husband had scampi which was nothing to write home about but ok .
The staff were very friendly .Good table Hygiene !
the whole experience was good during covid. The one thing I had issues with is the sweet brioche bun with a burger with bacon and cheese. It just didn't go. The bench seating was uncomfortable.
Excellent quality steak and fish pie in astoundingly historic setting
Rather surprised that staff did not wear any PPE.
Food took a long time even though it appeared to be not busy.
Very attentive staff. Very good quality food. Interesting pub.
Lovely building and charming staff, but service was slow and food was rather unimaginative. We were disappointed that our table was tucked away behind a wooden screen when we were hoping to be able to enjoy the lively atmosphere of the main part of the restaurant.
We have had delivery orders rom here during lockdown & they were all good.
The pub was busy ,which was fine as we were on the discount night but unfortunately there was only one waiter on to serve the restaurant & bar & due to the bookings that had been made they needed help at the tables.
It took a hour to get our mains, drinks were served when ordered & then another wait for dessert.
We took a friend so it was fine as we could chat, our table was right next to the kitchen door, so our friend had the waiter & plates going past her all the time which wasn’t very restful.
We will go back at a quieter time so we have some & conversation with the staff.
We had an excellent meal at the Fox and Hounds. We had been using them for takeaways during lockdown and thought we would venture out to have a meal in the garden. They have put a lot of work into ensuring everyone is able to have a meal out whilst maintaining social distancing!
My friend and I went out for a lovely summer evening to take advantage of the "Eat Out to Help Out" scheme. We had a delightful waiter who was coping well with a very busy evening. We ordered the Moules Frites, side salad and white wine. However there were no frites available as they had all sold out so had sweet potato fries instead. The food was delicious, and I especially liked the garlic wine sauce with the mussels. My only 2 suggestions are 1, the tables outside need candles and 2) a small piece of bread would be great to mop up the wonderful sauce. Overall a great evening out! Highly recommend this country pub.
We ate in the garden which was lovely as it was extremely hot. The food was good and the staff were very friendly.
Lovely staff, doing so well with social distancing will go again
Wonderful little pub with a great menu. Excellent service and food and a lovely NZ sauvignon blanc!
We had the fishfinger sandwich and the soup with sticky toffee pudding for dessert. All was absolutely amazing. My husband said the sandwich was the best he’d ever had.
We’ve just booked in to go again in a couple of weeks!
The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and professional ..the food was maybe a little expensive, especially the dessert but we will be back.
We liked the history of the pirate .. they should maybe place more info around the pub. My sons found it really interesting.
Lovely food. Brilliant service of the new girl (first night!)
Recent visit during Covid restrictions and still a great experience. Excellent food and great service from genuinely nice people.
The service was overbearing - the bar team came to the table at least 10 times to ask us if we were happy/needed anything else or whether they could take things away.
Had a most enjoyable Sunday lunch here. Food delicious, service was excellent. Highly recommended.
