No liquor license. And apparently no drinks besides water as no one offers us any choices.
Food was not good - chicken was very fatty and not good.
Service was useless - our cold app of spreads took 30 mins and came w/ our dinner
Bathroom was dirty and smelled, no toilet paper.
We were celebrating two birthdays. It was first time for dinner. The Greek burger was not Greek! No Greek herbs and usual other ingredients, other than the meat.
reasonable pricing for reasonable food, nothing outstanding, not bad, not great
The food is fresh and absolutely delicious. I want to put their spicy feta spread on positively everything. The portions are quite large and I don't understand how it's all priced so fairly in Manhattan. We've been here twice now and will surely come many more times.
The only hesitation I have is over the service. The staff is very polite and courteous, but perhaps overly so: both times I've been, I've had to wait far too long to place my order, have the dishes cleared, or the check presented. The restaurant has not been busy either time, and the wait staff appears attentive (they're very quick to refill your water) but seem oddly reticent to disturb diners. It's a minor quibble, but it added significant time to dinner both times I've been. That said, I'll be back!
It would be nice to have a vegetarian entree That isn’t heavy on cheese. Maybe gigantes with rice or potatoes. But all in all it is a nice place for a relaxed dinner.
Very casual restaurant! Brand new without a liquor license. Downstairs is a market and upstairs is the restaurant! Really good food!
Good value, enjoyed the food. Casual, upbeat restaurant. BYOB
Large portions excellent service good value
the food was somewhat unusual for Greek cuisine but well prepared. the service however was slow and they didn't have their liquor license yet. there is very little ambiance it is a casual, but friendly place. drop by for lunch or dinner but not for a romantic evening. I'd go back if I was in the neighborhood but wouldn't make a trip out of my way.
Favorite item was the Greek Orange pie. Server was so sweet and helpful. First table I sat at was wobbly and it was too warm when I first sat down but I changed tables and mentioned something to the server about the temperature and she changed the temperature right away. Definitely would return. Might do take out next time and sit in Bryant Park.
the food is fresh and reasonably priced, until they get a liquor license it's BYOB without a corkage charge
Bad food matched with horrible service. And I followed an employee into the bathroom only to find that the sink was broken (no water) and there were no paper towels.
We enjoyed out dishes. The tourlou and the cod were very good.
It will be even better when wine can be served.
We are going back soon.
Fournos Theophilos is trying hard, and doing a remarkably good job given its small and unattractive, side-street location near Times Square. But good and and plentiful Greek food, friendly server, at a surprisingly low price. Trouble is, FT needs to fix its identity: doesn't know whether it's a cafe (store-front, downstairs for mainly male patrons to meet and drink Greek coffee) or a real restaurant (mezzanine upstairs, invisible from street and not so attractive when you get there... small, non-descript space, paper placements). Complicated name; small menu, basically Greek but missing some favorite dishes like taramasalata. Desserts (downstairs) don't add. I'd try hard to get wine license, lose smoothies, etc. and make it clearer that it's a real restaurant with real food, good value. Hope it succeeds!
Amazing authentic Greek food for a fantastic price. Already went back!
Food and service was good. I would go again.
The only thing is there was no wine ... can Open Table make clear this is the case upfront? Now I see that some people have written that in their reviews. Frankly I don’t read up on reviews as they tend to be mixed. I would like to know upfront when making a selection from available restaurant list. If BYOB is OK, I would want to know that too.
It was very disappointing; the appetizer was fine but entree & dessert were mediocre. Service was especially poor - waiters seemed to ignore me. Is that what a solo female diner should expect?! I will not return
Affordable theater district dining.
My new favorite spot! Thanks Opentable!
Excellent food kindness staff. Coffee was amazing!
Excellent food and excellent service. Would strongly recommend.
Food was good, not great. Limited menu done competently at prices not often seen in Manhattan. BYOB, at least until they get a liquor license. Wish I had known going in, but went to Wine Wisdom on 46th. Take out on first floor, table service upstairs. Certainly a pre-theatre option.
This is a great spot near theaters for a lovely low-key and affordable meal. During the day, this appears to be a place that caters to a casual lunch crowd with counter-service. At night, the upper level is a table service restaurant. You can eat dinner here (shared appetizer, entree, maybe shared dessert) for $25 per person, no problem. In Midtown, that's called a deal. Note that there is no alcohol offered (maybe BYOB - worth asking). Service is friendly and professional. We will be back.
My wife an I had dinner on a Friday night before a show. We had each had an appetizer and main course, portions are large. I had the potato salad and we shared the mixed dips appetizer. I also had the cod and she had the leg of lamb. All of it was delicious.
We did not know what to expect. The food was delicious and a good value. We will go back.
Hands down best, most authentic Greek food we’ve ever had. Pre theater prix fixe menu was fabulous and huge amount of food. Would go back here again and again.
Deliciously rich food. Service was excellent. Went on a Friday night with some friends and the staff was very attentive. Will come back again!
Very nice place! Food very fresh and waiters so kind!!
The Greek food was truly authentic and a great value! Looking forward to their getting a liquor license. Can't wait for our next visit.
the food here was good but the menu was limited - they didn't even have hummus!!
My wife and I dined at Fournos Theophilos for a late lunch. The restaurant wasn't too busy when we visited, but most of the food on the menu were unavailable. Perhaps this was because it was Christmas Day and the restaurant was busy during breakfast/brunch.
From the limited selection that was available, we had Kagianas (with avocados) and Green Salad with Manouri cheese. My wife enjoyed her Kagianas. I thought my Green Salad with Manouri Cheese was decent, but the dressing was pretty salty for my taste, even when I paired it with cheese and toast.
We also had Fredo Cappuccino, and boy was it delicious! I was a little upset about the food but my iced cappuccino really made up for it.
Absolutely delicious & amazing authentic food! I would definitely go back!
What a great find, this is one of the best foods i had in a while. Menu is traditional Greek, food was very flavorful and the server was knowledgeable. very cozy room great for dinner. Highly recommend the chicken and Lamb dish, our female companion had the cod fish, which was also extremely delicious. Must try the Greek Salad and the spreads !
