Founding Farmers - Reston
As a farmer-owned restaurant, almost all of our delicious food and drink – from our freshly baked bread and house-churned butter to our craft cocktails with our proprietary spirits – is made from scratch, using high-quality ingredients from American family farms.
Our First Bake is available weekday mornings for takeaway breakfast and our specialty blend of Compass Coffee. We hope our Reston guests will enjoy all that is Founding Farmers.

Overall this place is very charming but overpriced for sure
The most amazingly delicious food, fun environment, great service, and large portions.
Wasn’t seated until 15 minutes after our reservation time. It took 15 minutes for our waitress to even show up to our table to get our drink orders and only came back to the table very infrequently throughout the meal. There was hair in my food. Overall, I had high expectations and this place didn’t even come close to living up to them.
Didn’t get off to a great start, because we had a reservation, but weren’t seated until almost 20 minutes past the scheduled time. We did have a delightful server though, so once we were seated, things began to look up. Food was a mixed bag, salad starters were very nice, one person said the fish and chips were excellent, and another said the steak frites was very good. I had pork tenderloin which was quite dry, but salvaged by having a tasty sauce. The mashed potatoes were rather bland too. However we all three really loved our deserts (carrot cake, sinful devils food cake, and deep chocolate pie). They were very busy when we arrived, and it did take a while to get food after we ordered. In the end this put us a little bit over the two hours parking for which validation applies, so we had to pay $4.75 for parking - we should have just used the valet parking which charges $3. Lastly, although the space is attractive, it is awfully loud. Unpleasantly so I thought.
We had a 7:30 reservation, we weren’t seated until 8, and it was another 10 minutes until we saw a waiter to take our drink order. Maybe overcrowded because of Restaurant Week?
The food was tasty, though, especially the pimento bread.
Originally supposed to be 6 people dining, but ended up having 8. Hostess was very accommodating. Our waitress was great and very attentive. Had a great time and great meal. Thank you!
I have visited this location several times, Tuesday was the first day I did not have exceptional service. I'll still go back but I was really surprised that the service was below the quality I usually experience.
This was our second visit to Founding Farmers - Reston and this was even better than the first! Friendly, attentive and knowledgeable wait staff curate a rich experience. The food is fantastic, with lots of options. Great cocktail and non-alcoholic drink menu. Whether you're in the area or have to travel there, this is a can't miss experience.
The restaurant was great as was the food. I gave it 4 stars for brunch because the website boasted about the variety of the server passed food. We were offered only avocado toast and deviled eggs and the deviled eggs were offered 3 times by the same server, the last time while we were enjoying dessert! There should have been more.
We had problems with parking and a snotty hostess. When we arrived we were taken to a table in the center of the restaurant. I politely requested a change as I preferred a booth. There were plenty available for our size party and they accommodated us. As we were leaving the hostess station the members of my party noticed the 20-something hostess rolling her eyes at me behind my back. I found this to be quite offensive. This is not how you treat customers. We also got a snotty response from her when we raised a parking issue. The manager took care of the issue right away but the last thing I need is to deal with a snotty hostess; especially after what we paid for dinner. We will not go back. There are too many other really great restaurants that appreciate their customers and treat them well.
The breading did not adhere to the chicken fried steak; the mushroom pieces in my meatloaf seemed pretty big and expected a brown gravy on the meat loaf. Our server was friendly, efficient, and prompt. We will be back.
The Thomas Jefferson-themed space was bright and energetic with high ceilings, the food was excellent, and the services was very personable and responsive by Samantha Pleasant and an amazing leadership/management team including Skyler and Rachael. We will be back often and can't recommend the new Reston location enough.
Great service from our waiter! Nice ambience. Much less crowded than the Tysons location. The only improvement is that the food at the brunch buffet was not refilled often enough. Many items were unavailable during our brunch.
I was disappointed that the hostess asked me many questions to identify the birthday boy in our group, but his birthday was not acknowledged at our table.
Waiter Kevin was fabulous attentive & informative made a pleasurable experience.
Good food, good service. Moderately high noise level, so don’t plan on romantic conversations.
This restaurant is overpriced and has fatty, pretentious food. Annoying parking too.
We had a good experience. Servers were very nice and accommodating. Food was really good as well
We are Founding Farmers followers. This was our first time at the Reston FF and it reflected that FF has learned from their other places. This one is larger and has a larger bar area. They make homemade donuts rather than the beignets they are known for elsewhere. The beignets take longer than the donuts. Their fried chicken is extra yummy. The chicken and donut is a fun spin on the classic chicken and waffles but we would still like to have the waffle option. Yummy salads and comfort foods.
Exactly as previous reviewers have stated - great food, but SLOW service and very pricey. To me, not quite worth the price tag. Great scene overall, food was very good, but our server was easily confused, slightly messed up our drink orders and made mistakes on the bill. She was quick to correct it, and removed the one item we did not like, so no real fault to her. All courses took way too long to come out, and there was a general feeling of the staff not quite having their act together. Forget getting out under the free 2 hour parking, unless you get nothing but water and entrees!
We were celebrating a birthday. Great ambiance. The food and drinks are way overpriced. I would recommend this restaurant for a special occasion. Drinks for $15 each. I had one appetizer, one drink, and one entree. $47. Service was excellent though.
Home cooking with a modern/hipster twist! Great variety and unique combinations.
Reservations are easy to make. Food is wonderful. The servers are always nice and offer recommendations.
This was a great location! I loved the easy access to the restaurant by both the metro and car which makes getting a group together so much easier. The food was excellent as was our waitress!
Service was extremely slow but staff was very friendly. Good food and great desserts.
This was our first time at the Founding Farmers in Reston. We all agreed that it surpassed the Tysons and DC restaurants in ambience. The four of us had reservations on a Sunday for 7:45 pm. We were promptly seated, but our meal did not come until 9:15. This was the only drawback. We entertained ourselves with conversation, drinks, and appetizers during our wait for the main course. We all ordered different things. The food was delicious, and three of us had to take home doggie bags due to the portions. We would return for the cornbread alone! Scrumptious! We ordered dessert, and it was complimentary in celebration of our friend's birthday...a nice surprise. Our server, Jeff, was super efficient and super busy but took time to answer our questions on the history of the restaurant and recommend dishes. We will definitely go back to this neighborhood gem and will come prepared to feast on the cornbread while awaiting our meal.
After a certain point they do not replenish the food for brunch, so if you have an early afternoon reservation, the price is the same, but there are a lot less choices and the food area is a mess.
Restaurant was way too warm by the window seats. They probably need to either upgrade the tint on the window or bring down the shades. The food, when it was there, was excellent. However, I think the kitchen had trouble keeping up; the spread was continually emptied out. The server we had was friendly.
This location may be logistically too big to handle the breakfast brunch; it seems like a larger seating capacity but it was not overflowing. I will be going back to the Tyson's location next time. That location really runs smoothly.
We were looking for a special brunch for my son’s 12th birthday and found this great menu so we booked a reservation a week in advance. I was looking forward to things like Belgium waffles, Brie, frittata and perogies. When we arrived, our server (who was trying) told us that eggs Benedict and pancakes would have to be ordered fresh and everything else was on the buffet. We stood in line and there were no waffles, the French toast was all gone, no frittata and no Brie. My older kids went to the buffet before I did and found extra fried French toast and donuts, but no one was replenishing it by the time I got there. When I looked on the menu again, it said carts would come around. We had been there an hour already and not one cart came around. We had to ask for bacon, which is one of the few items my 5 year old would eat. The menu also said pizza. There was none. A while later, our waitress herself brought a plate of bacon lollies; however, they tasted like they were weird meat cooked outside. We also asked about the perogies and she said a cart with perogies would come around. About 10 minutes later a guy came around with spinach perogies. The potato ones were all gone. This was a VERY disappointing brunch.
A little pricey for a brunch buffet unless you have a hefty appetite. Good farm to table food and everything was well prepared and stocked.
I have been to other restaurants in this group throughout DC and MD and this one is by far my favorite. The menu is excellent and the apps are fantastic. I was also thrilled to see Pisco that is imported from Peru. I tried one of those and it was absolutely fantastic. Very few places carry it. They have a great handcrafted alcoholic and non-alcoholic menu. I plan to return!
Server was great! Food was excellent! Only issue was reservations were running 15-20 minutes late. Also it took over 30 minutes to get entrees and for dessert we never got our espresso but got billed for it.
The food was delicious, the atmosphere was relaxing, and service impeccable. Will definitely be back, when in town.
First time at this location Food tasty as always. lobster salad tasted great, but a little overdressed. Jambalaya has interesting presentation with the 1/2 on top rather than incorporated making more difficult to eat than expected. Smaller critiques, but again good overall. Drink list always good. Service was on point. Friendly host staff, validated parking. Will return.
First time at this FF location. Have been to 2 others plus Farmers and Distillers. This was just as wonderful as the other locations. Good to know that the company maintains this level of excellence at all locations.
Food and service were excellent. Tried unsuccessfully to get a reservation at Tyson's. Found one here. Was not disappointed. Brought out-of-town friends here. Everyone enjoyed their meal.
George took wonderful care of our group of 11! Food was delicious and we had a great time.
Enjoy the farm to table food. Excellent service. Price point very good. If you go use valet parking as it’s cheaper than garage parking. Also NO signage in garage for restaurant. Elevator NO signage for restaurant. That’s the only annoying piece.
Server was very nice but once again our appetizer arrived less than one minute before the entree. This has also happened to me at the downtown and the Tyson’s restaurants. For that reason, I don’t think it’s at all the fault of the server but clearly a problem in the kitchen. Food is good but this continuing problem is annoying. It disrupts conversation and either you rush through the appetizer so your entree doesn’t get cold or you raise an issue and send it back to the kitchen. Both choices disruptive. Note: the servers apologized but didn’t offer to remedy the situation. I’ll have to think very hard before I go back.
We went for the brunch, great choices...loved that waiters brought bacon on a stick to our tables along with others treats during the meal....topped with homemade strawberry ice cream that was as smooth and creamy as Ive ever had.... friendly, attentive service and they validated our parking.... we'll be back !
Great salmon and fish n’ chips!
