Founding Farmers - Reston
As a farmer-owned restaurant, almost all of our delicious food and drink – from our freshly baked bread and house-churned butter to our craft cocktails with our proprietary spirits – is made from scratch, using high-quality ingredients from American family farms.
Our First Bake is available weekday mornings for takeaway breakfast and our specialty blend of Compass Coffee. We hope our Reston guests will enjoy all that is Founding Farmers.
Great buffet items that are quickly refilled by staff as needed. Takes a very long time to get drinks and the items brought by servers, such as pancakes and eggs Benedict.
Waitress was not on top of it. Slow and confused.
A wonderful dining experience at Founding Farmers tonight. The food was tasty and the service was prompt.
They were running behind because they had too many orders and they ran out of chocolate pie.
We had a reservation and the restaurant was not busy. We were first seated at a table right next to a couple on a date. The tables were very close together and we asked to be seated somewhere else. The second choice offered to us was in the dark corner next to the kitchen. When we refused we were asked where we wanted to sit and we chose the obvious nice booth in the front window. We are a mixed race couple with three adult daughters. No idea why we were treated so poorly but it was not the first time at this restaurant. We will go to other locations but not Reston in the future.
Hi SuzanneV: I am super sorry to read about the poor start to your recent visit with us. I feel awful that our team failed to properly accommodate you & your family, and would love the chance to touch base. I will send you a DM with my email address to hopefully follow up about your review & experience. -Amy
Once again we had a really great dinner! Thanks FF!
This is my worst experience with a server I ever had especially for a place that I spent over $300. She basically threw our meal in front of us, interrupted our conversations and worst off she snatched the check from my hand once I paid. Plus the food there was just OK. For the money we pay for the place you would think the food would be better. Will NEVER go back to this place again! Don't waste your money.
Hi Mary: Oh gosh- I am so so sorry to read this! I would love the chance to follow up about the poor service you encountered, and will send you a DM with my contact info to hopefully continue this conversation. -Amy
Service was ok- very busy.
Food quality is not the same as when they first opened
Fresh food and easy access to Metro. But $$, and no kids menu offered.
Overall good experience, just not as good as we've had in the past.
Breakfast was definitely better than the dinner.
Spicy chicken was missing the donut (my fault I didn’t notice it was missing until later). Issues with the credit card payment and a few dirty forks.
There was a nice variety of food choices, and prices seemed reasonable, although wine by the glass was overpriced.
This is still a good value, but it seems the quality of the food has taken a hit at the Brunch Buffet. Over fried, poor parts chicken are not good. They took away the banana foster donuts (family fave), and should go back to either having roasted fowl instead of having just pork, pork, beef, beef. Service was good this time.
Always good bummer at the removal of juices from the menu
I have been to this location before and had a great experience. However, my last visit was not the same experience.
Great place for a birthday celebration.
Arrived a little early waiting for the third person in our party to arrive. My friend and I sat at the bar and order cocktails and an appetizer. The bartender apparently made my drink and gave it to another guest, so my friend was served and I waited another 5+ minutes for my drink. When ready to sit, we were placed at a booth in the bar area, being my first time dining, I would have preferred sitting in the dining room but that was nothing major. The service from this point on was just sad. There was zero friendly anticipation or any kind of up-selling happening, we waited and waited every time we ordered drinks. We had to flag down the server to order a bottle of wine because he left so abruptly after we gave our order for our entrees. Then, after he cleared our plates, came straight over with the check, not even bothering to ask us if we wanted to dessert.. so flagged him down again. The service was the biggest disappointment all in all, but a few notes about the menu and food. Menu is a little pretentious, trying to be home style and fine dining just doesn’t work. I ordered the shrimp and grits, portion was super small and there was no flavor in the grits, the soupy sauce had a lot of flavor, but the server insisted I order it with extra garlic and sauce, shouldn’t have had too if it’s made well. Also, for a fairly new restaurant in NoVa, offer a FULL BAR, only 2 choices of vodka, and not good vodka at that. Lastly validation for parking didn’t mean free parking, still had to pay almost $5. Probably won’t be back in a while.
The service was excellent! The food was very fresh and delicious. I would recommend it to a friend. Great job!
Hi CherylW: Thank you so much for sharing your AWESOME review with us! Much appreciated and we hope to have you back soon. :) -Amy
The large bone in the chicken salad didn't help. No apology from a manager, or anything.
Delicious brunch. Even though it was a buffet, the quality of food was amazing.
Our meal was great as usual but our server was a little too much. He thought he was funny but he was just bizarre and it was not entertaining. Think he needs to work on the script.
Food and service here are both excellent. There is a large variety of food, from fried chicken or steak to vegetarian grain bowls, so something for everyone. Desserts (my favorite part of any meal) are amazing.
Went with a friend and we had terrible service. Seemed liked the waiter was trying to ignore us most of the time. Our drinks were empty and we were never asked if we wanted refills for the remaining 45 minutes we were there. Asked for some more time to decide on dessert, but the waiter decided it was time for us to go and dropped off the check without a word.

Brunch with a friend service was great friendly service made us feel very comfortable and assisted with selections without being pushy.
Both my entree and my wife's entree were dry and over cooked. One of my two pieces of fried chicken had a quarter-sized piece of tough meat and the rest was just thick breading. Both of our drinks were incorrect and the two promises form the waiter to talk to the bartender resulted in no change. This was overpriced, bad food.
Great food, excellent addition to Reston Restaurant scene
As usual the food was excellent. However this is the second time in as many weeks that the timing of the service was not good and I believe it is because the servers have too many tables at once to be able to give the customers the service they need. We sat for a good 10 minutes before we were acknowledged and had a drink order taken. Once the order was taken it was another 15-20 minutes before we got our drinks from the bar. The non alcoholic drink was brought over timely but our bar drinks did not arrive for another 15 minutes. My salad was not delivered until after our entrees, as the server saw our food come out and realized I had not gotten my salad and promptly got it for me. I do not fault the server for these issues, but rather problems with service for tables from the bar and the runners for various parts of our meal. Our server was as nice as could be, took our order correctly and we got the correct food. But something else is going on behind the scenes that does not make this a good overall experience, which is too bad as I really like the food.
Great family brunch, as always! My kids just love it here
Absolutely loved our server, she was so polite and outgoing.
Tyler was very kind and provided great service. The food was good but hard to come by. The eggs were very runny looking and when I brought it to the cooks attention, he started "splainin" to me that it was the heavy cream in the eggs, like it was my first time coming here. Very crowded and extremely busy. Seems like they would do better to add another day for the brunch. Worked before.
Went of Sunday brunch. We couldn't order off the menu and had to eat at the buffet. IMHO the the buffet choices were far below the $32 price tag. I don't think we'll be going back for brunch again.
The eggs were good as was the fruit crumble. The fried chicken was dry, the "warm" salmon was cold, there was no bacon, no bread. Everything was very carb heavy.
brunch was very over priced for what they served. We were expecting much more.
Hi RacerX12: Thank you for your review. I am very sorry to read that our buffet brunch left something to be desired, and really failed to give you true bang for your buck. :/ Our Culinary Team will take into consideration what you shared and will look into adding more options to our brunch selection. We do hope to have you back for another try and please call us at: 703-988-7333 for any reservation help needed. -Amy
Great ambiance, good drinks, good food with a few standouts. It’s in my neighborhood and I really want to love this place. But there are always details wrong, particularly with service. Food showing up without silverware and nobody notices. Wildly variable timing- appetizers out within 3 minutes of ordering but drinks showing up well after. Things that would be easily excused in a restaurant with lower price points and less ambition in other respects. They should poach whoever looks after service at Great American restaurants.
Good food nice place. Brunch is outstanding.
Hi RichH: Thank you for sharing your wonderful review with us! We appreciate it and hope to have you back for another great brunch visit soon. :) -Amy
Service was very slow. After being seated, we waited at least 10 minutes before the server acknowledged us.
Founding Farmers Reston was a decent choice for dinner. The best things were the food and valet parking right in front for $3. The service was slow but courteous, the ambience was suburban chain chic, but way too loud. The restaurant employees have been trained to present the restaurant as upscale, which yields some attitude. The biggest weakness is the price, which is way to high for what you get. I walked out feeing a little used.
Overall the experience was pretty good. Food was tasty but our waitress was no where to be found most of the night which slowed the ordering process drastically. To be fair, when she was available she was courteous and professional. Could have just been a hectic evening.
A little scene-y for me. And the wait person kept coming over every 2 mins?!? RELAX really.....
The restaurant was a pleasure from the time we walked in till we left. Good food , good service. Great atmosphere. The only negative was that the bar does not have all the mixers it should have. I realize that the theme is fresh natural foods but the bar should have ginger ale for drinks.
First visit and definitely not our last. Service was excellent and so was the food. I had a bad experience at DC location so this was a very pleasant surprise. It is also nice to be able to have a conversation without yelling. They also validate parking and have valet parking.
