Founding Farmers - Reston
As a farmer-owned restaurant, almost all of our delicious food and drink – from our freshly baked bread and house-churned butter to our craft cocktails with our proprietary spirits – is made from scratch, using high-quality ingredients from American family farms.
Our First Bake is available weekday mornings for takeaway breakfast and our specialty blend of Compass Coffee. We hope our Reston guests will enjoy all that is Founding Farmers.
Wonderful experience all around.
Their brunch buffet is AMAZING! So many wonderful options and they come around with more bite-sized options.
I often go to their Tysons location and am quite happy with them.
Here in Reston, however, the food seems to be not the same - at least not prepared the same way. The crisp roasted chicken was almost completely covered with sauce making it completely soggy. The jambalaya has little to do with the Louisiana dish of the same name. The Chinese ribs had really dry meat.
Saturday night service, does not keep up at all. The atmosphere is noisy, hectic and the attention given by the overloaded wait-staff can be compared to the one given by flight attendants.
I would not plan a formal dinner here.
Consistently good food and bartenders always nice.
Great food and service. We had fun cebrating the holidays with friends.
My husband's salad looked like it came from Wendy's. My shrimp and grits was awful. The shrimp was shriveled and tough. My grits had very hard clumps. I was very disappointed. I have been to Founding Farmers for brunch several times and have loved it! This was our first dinner visit and it was so disappointing!
Hi CharmaineS: Oh no! I am real sorry to read this! I feel awful and am SO sorry your meals left you & your husband disappointed this time. :( I would love the chance to turn this around and will send you a PM with my contact info. -Amy
I had Thanksgiving dinner here. It was not a good experience. I thought I would give it another try. Not a good experience, the food was mediocre and the service was nothing special. I will not go back and will not recommend to my friends and family.
Fabulous food as always. Tough to pick what to order from all the great choices
Good service, great food. Overall a great meal with coworkers!
Excellent place for business meals. Plenty of parking, great food and service.
Hi Maryam: Thank you for the recommendation! We appreciate it and hope to have you (and your colleagues) back again soon. :) -Amy
Used the valet parking outside of metro. My daughters laptop/school back pack and mother’s fur jacket were stolen out of an allegedly locked car. Restaurant was moderately helpful and parking garage way less helpful. No one seemed to know anything and took me calling management multiple times and finally the police to get any help. If you valet take everything of value out of your vehicle if you’d like to have it when you return. I won’t be back to this location.
Brittney was hands down, second to none service was impeccable. She advised me to get the mint tea and I was feeling better by the timei left.
Great food. Terrible service.
The waitress was nice but didn’t let us know they had kid-sized dinner options (we had four children at the table). It wasn’t until I asked her that she told us about them. The majority of our meals were almost too salty to eat. They didn’t offer any non-alcoholic beers (most restaurants do). Also, the food took a while to come out. Overall, nice waitstaff, but a pretty disappointing meal...
Brunch buffet is only on Sundays. Limited Saturday brunch menu is used instead. Service was slow, took awhile to flag waitress when we needed anything, food came out lukewarm but eggs and grits were cold. The grits were bland and it seemed like our food may have been sitting out for awhile before it was delivered. Biscuits were excellent though. Buffet is generally good but I would pass on regular breakfast menu.
Hi Partyof5: Thank you for your feedback. I am very sorry to read your brunch experience on Saturday was neither here nor there and sadly, a majority of the food & our service missed the mark. :( I would love the chance to touch base about your experience in hopes to turn your lasting impression around. That said, I will send you a PM with my contact info. -Amy
Drinks were overpriced and shrimp was overcooked. Ambiance and service were great.
Hi Trinity8: Oh no. I am real sorry to read your drink(s) and the Shrimp both left much to be desired during this visit. :( I would love the chance to touch base to learn more about what beverage(s) & which shrimp dish you ordered that need some fine-tuning, and also do my best to make right the disappointment you left with. This said, I will send you a DM with my contact info to cont this conversation. -Amy
I normally enjoy going to Founding Farmers however, this experience for Thanksgiving wasn't the greatest. Everything except for the food was great. The bread came out cold and hard, the main course was lukewarm as if they grabbed it off a warming tray or popped it into the microwave and put it on a plate, the ham was dried out, and the pie came out cold with no whipped cream as advertised. My family and I also had multiple dishes that weren't clean. I will continue to go to Founding Farmers just not on holidays.
Vegan options where not available for every course. Very disappointed because we entertaining a vegan friend. If you are offering vegan options make sure you have enough for everyone to enjoy thanksgiving dinner.
I would recommend going on a non holiday. The food was not warm. The service was below par. I was disappointed. I am trying this restaurant again with the regular menu. Hopefully I will not be disappointed,
It was all good
Disappointed with my recent Thanksgiving dinner. Previously had Thanksgiving dinner here in 2018 and it was great, however, it did not live up to expectations this year. Although we had a reservation, we were initially taken to a table with less chairs than in our party. Had to wait for another table to be cleared. We were then seated in the back of the restaurant which is usually where the buffet foods are placed. Tables and chairs were now placed here and it felt like we were in a cafeteria..very sad looking...no decorations and isolated from the main dining area. The food was not as good as last year - the plating was horrible; some of the side dishes were accidentally not plated so had to request them separately; the quantity and quality were also disappointing. Our server was friendly but the staff at front desk were frazzled and not very friendly. Desserts (various pies) were served cold. A kid friendly menu was not available although kids were offered the Thanksgiving menu at a discounted price. Don't think we will be returning next year.
Fixed price Thanksgiving menu had plenty of choices. The prime rib outdid the Turkey and ham by miles..
Non-alcoholic made to order vanilla soda was delicious! Desert options were ok ... not anazing.
Would come back.
Founding Farmers has tasty food with a great selection for a reasonable price.
Everything was excellent, except the bread. I go to Founding Farmers fairly regularly and order the cornbread and it is always served hot. On Thanksgiving, it was shown on the menu as being the "skillet cornbread" making it sound like it would be served hot. We asked and were told that it is being served differently because it was Thanksgiving. They did put some bread in the oven for us and it was served warm. So the issue was resolved, but it seems below FF standards to serve cold bread.
Thanksgiving ( prix fixe menu).
Food was great. Choices of entres great too.
Waitress seemed overwhelmed. Had to track someone down for dessert silverware.
Wonderful experience. Will return next year!
We drove 2 hours one way for dinner because we remembered how much we enjoyed it a few years ago. We are still enjoying the leftovers. All of the servers were great.
Overall it is was good. I am sure it was a challenge given that it was Thanksgiving. The "ham" wasn't really ham, it really was pork roast--- the manager said it was a "pork ham". Not really. My Prime rib was underdone, but they took it back and came back very quickly with a better piece and then checked in with me to see if it was OK.
Thanksgiving dinner was fantastic. You had a choice of protein types - such as fried chicken, turkey, white fish or prime rib. All were delicious. Each plate was loaded up with a small portion of several sides. The restaurant was full and busy, service did not suffer .
Great overall experience.
Nice big windows to let the light in, making the whole experience upbeat.
Waitress as excellent. Very attentive throughout the meal. We had a few questions about the restaurant and waitress told manager.
Manager appeared shortly and answered all of our questions. She had the ability to talk to us as a personal friend.
Which is very rare in today’s fast paced environment where time and money are the only important issues in many of today’s restaurants.
Best overall customer experience and highly recommended.
FF is usually wonderful, but our Thanksgiving entrees were mediocre to bad. Turkey was tough, mashed potatoes cold, green beans tough as well. Our soup was excellent, but barely warm rather than hot. The pecan pie dessert was fabulous.
We love FF and will continue to come here, just not for Thanksgiving.
Very disappointed with Thanksgiving meal.
1) Cocktail expensive for the small size.
2) Bread service plopped down, consisted of cold rolls and cornbread; cornbread taste was good, ignored rolls.
3) Service was VERY rushed; could barely finish one course before next served. Soup/Salad course was not only rushed, but the bowls were left on table after entree served! Messy and unappetizing.
4) Very dissatisfied with entrees; the green beans were tough and inedible, the potatoes and dressing and gravy were lukewarm. Potatoes, dressing, gravy tasted fine, what there was of them; but smallest servings we've ever seen, size of small ice cream scoop.
5) Overall impression was of being run through an assembly line at top speed, not an enjoyable Thanksgiving dinner for family.
Thanksgiving dinner was the best this year!!! Our first time dining at this location and won't be the last. Thanks to Jacob and the rest of the staff for insuring we had an awesome experience!
We were there for Thanksgiving with friends. I had the prime rib and it was good. The side dishes were good as well. Service was excellent.
We felt a little rushed and didn’t get seated right away with reservations. The food was good and dessert was awesome. The service was great but a little too fast. Not all were quite done eating as plates were being whisked away. It was a bit steep in price but I didn’t have to cook and clean so only I thought it was worth the price. We were visiting from out of town and staying with my son whose wife is about to deliver baby number two and we didn’t want to create the mess at her house. We all missed eating at home and having leftovers. Even though it was delicious, we probably won’t do it on Thanksgiving again. But we come to Fiynding Farmers every time we visit our son!!
I would recommend Founding Farmers, but not for Thanksgiving. The food was mediocre and messily plated. It seems you could not pick and choose the sides, at least the way the waiter explained it to me. For instance, I didn't really want sweet potatoes, he said then they will just do a bit more of each. What I wanted was more regular pototoes and less stuffing too. Special orders weren't the order of the day. My food was barely warm and my sons Fried Chicken entree was under done. For the 400.00 bill for 7 people, that was also excessive. Next year I will stay home and cook because I can do better. Usually your food is very good, Thanksgiving it was not.
Hi JaneD: Oh no! I am real sorry to read that your Thanksgiving visit failed to measure up, and both you & your son were served less than desirable meals. :( I would love to make this right and will send you a PM to hopefully cont this conversation. -Amy
The food is always delicious, but it is annoying that there is no kid’s menu despite having food that could easily be adapted to kid palates and portions. The service also moves at a leisurely pace. The fish in the fish and chips is light and fresh (though the chips are meh). The cheese ravioli is fresh and flavorful, and the spicy shrimp fettuccini sufficiently spicy.
I had made the reservation on the wrong night but your hostess was very accommodating and found us a table. That make a difference and I will return, Great job!!
The buffet was great! The food was always quickly replenished and everything was delicious.
