Founding Farmers - Reston
As a farmer-owned restaurant, almost all of our delicious food and drink – from our freshly baked bread and house-churned butter to our craft cocktails with our proprietary spirits – is made from scratch, using high-quality ingredients from American family farms.
Our First Bake is available weekday mornings for takeaway breakfast and our specialty blend of Compass Coffee. We hope our Reston guests will enjoy all that is Founding Farmers.
My 13 year olds daughter’s birthday with family and a few friends. Stay away from the pizza (unless you like the pepperoni spicy). Spicy chicken sandwich was too spicy compared Wendy’s spicy.
Regular fried chicken, steak and ahi appetizer was outstanding!
We had a 6:30 reservation on a Monday night, the place was not busy at all and they seated us at the last table in the restaurant by the grab and go counter. They ran out of brisket for the farmers platter and wanted to upcharge me $8 more to get another beef substitute, when asked what my options were for a non- up charge for another meat substitute, the answer was only that I can get extra chicken or ribs and that was all they can do for us. We decided to leave when my Farmers mule cocktail did not come in a copper mug. The manager stated each restaurant does things differently when I told them this same drink was in a copper mug when I visited the restaurant in DC. I purposely made reservations at this restaurant because my experience in DC was great. I was excited for the reservation but ended up disappointed.
Wonderful, quiet place for midweek lunch. Hot tea service is fabulous- though tea could be stronger (I bring an extra tea bag with me). Baked goods are perfect with tea. My fried chicken a bit overdone and served thighs as “white meat.” Not sure I agree with that. Service was spot on yet not hovering.
Staff from beginning to end was amazing!!! Best experience that we have ever had. Kevin was the best wait staff thatvwe have ever had anywhere. Love this place!
Attended their brunch which has numerous selections for all tastes. You can order some of their a la carte items such as egg benedict at no extra charge. The food and service was excellent. It was Easter and there was a problem with our reservation. The manager and staff handled it and seated us within 10 minutes. I was reluctant to even try this Founding Farmers because of my bad experiences at the Tyson's and Montgomery County Founding Farmers. The Reston Founding Farmers is far superior to the other ones.
This was my second time at Founding Farmers. I think the only reason it wasn't as good as the first time was because it was Easter and extremely busy. They were out of a couple of the things we wanted and service was a bit slow, but that was to be expected I guess. I would definitely go back again, just not on a holiday!
Waiter was so slow. It was Easter but by the time we were done, he only had 3 tables. He was incredibly slow throughout our whole dinner. Forgot many things we requested. Very disappointed in the service.
Our server, Ceyara, was phenomenal and the food was fantastic. Love coming here!
Unfortunately i was expecting the same fabulous experience i had at the DC location on Pa Ave. The Reston location is not in the same balk park. Service very slow and food sat under lights too long before being served. It was Easter Sunday. Will not go back.
Don’t ever go here for brunch or in general. We have been to Founding Farmers in DC multiple times as well as their Tyson’s location. Both, here and at the Tyson’s location, we have experienced both poor service and food. They cannot keep up the standard . If you want the real experience with good food and service go to the DC location. Poor service and the food for brunch was tasteless and cold if there was any food there. They couldn’t replace the food fast enough. The room with the food for brunch was greasy and slick. Why would put the restroom behind the bar forcing people to walk liquor slipped on the floor and the ice machines, etc. I was carrying a young child to the bathroom and was afraid I was going to slip. Also the price of $37 for brunch when you can’t even get decent food or enough food makes it not worth it at all. For that price go to Liberty Tavern in Arlington and we’re you get great food and your moneys worth. This visit put the nail in the coffin and I’m never going to founding farmers again.
Tysons corner has better variety and people came around once with food not offered at the buffet. They also ran out of coffee but another store was bringing some in. Over all management did great
I made Easter Brunch reservations for 10 early March because of the positive experience I had previously at the restaurants and because I heard the Brunch buffet was good. When we arrived they had set are table for 8 and then just stuck two additional chairs at the table to accommodate the party. When I expressed it was too tight they added a table to remedy the situation.
It was obvious that the restaurant was having a difficult time keeping the buffet stocked with food. They ran out of many of the items and it took a long time to replenish plates. It was unappetizing to see remnants of food on the serving plates. There are supposed to be pass around items during the buffet and it appeared other tables received those items but nothing was ever passed to our table. All and all it was a disappointing experience and I felt I needed to apologize to my out of town guests.
Perhaps they do a good job on an ordinary weekend but I would not recommend this buffet for a holiday.
This is a great place for a Sunday Brunch. We were seated on time and were met by our wait staff immediately. Since this was a buffet, we were directed to the serving line. The line was short and the food plentiful and very good. Our drinks were served to the table shortly after we returned from the buffet. The background noise level was a little high, but we were able to carry on our conversation with no problem.
My first time coming on a Sunday and this place didn't skip a beat. Brittney came with her legendary service, filled with joy and laughter, Chris delivered on the enthusiasm and energy, and Ciara showered us with an abundance of love. Everyone moved like they were in sync when it came to the greeting, which sets the tone, the seating, the clean up, and even when you leave, you feel like you need to thank everyone that contributed to such a wonderful experience.
Brunch with our son who was home on spring break from college.
Amazing service and delicious brunch items.. A+
I can’t say enough about this crew. We went to the wrong place and with exhausted grandparents and children in tow, they were understanding, compassionate and accommodating though we were an hour late. The services was amazing, the homemade sodas and cocktails were perfect and the food was outstanding. We had the fried chicken and donuts, steamed cod (just delicious, ask for a little hot sauce to go in there!), the short ribs and the chicken salad. One thing was as good as the next!
Sweet server; horrible service. I actually went to the bar to buy a drink I waited so long. She was impossible to find. Really bad service.
Our son was home for the weekend and we wanted to go out for a nice dinner. Food and service was outstanding.
When we arrived, we were escorted to a table and passed by a few booths. We inquired if we could move to a booth and were declined. We were told that we need to request a booth at the time the reservation is made. That’s not clear anywhere. And a bit of a disappointment, as we watched another group come in to be seated at a table and ask for a booth and were promptly moved. Don’t quite understand :(
Issues in the kitchen
Something is wrong in the front of kitchen or the platting process.
Many of the sides were cold while the protein was warm.
Fellow diners pasta was cold first time then undercooked when replaced and finally comp’ed and replaced with turkey to go.
The warm food was all very good. The trout was tasty, the burger was slightly under cooked but tasty and the fried chicken was also tasty.
The fried green tomatoes were underwhelming sorry to say.
The wings were very tasty!
Avoid pasta and make sure to complain, but only if needed. They were very good about trying to take care of our complaints. Staff and management was great!!
Thanks KristaW for sharing your feedback with us. I am so sorry for the mistakes with your food that happened, however glad to know you alerted our team and we properly addressed this in the moment. Again, we appreciate it and hope to have you back soon! -Amy
Food was AWESOME as was the service would definitely recommend! I had the Impossible Meatloaf and it was impossible to to get any better with a "plant base" dish. Kudos to the Chef!
Apparently on the weekend there is no regular lunch menu, only buffet style brunch. That's fine, but it is absolutely not clear from the restaurant's web site. I had lunch on the weekend at their DC location and there was none of this nonsense.
Brunch buffet was ok, but just that, ok. Food was not brought in to keep pace with the use, so some stations were completely empty and you had to wait or come back to check on it to see what might show up. Buffet was located in the far corner of the dining area with contstricted access between the bar, takeout counter and waiter's station. Waiters thought twice before getting out of your way...
Compared to the brunch I had in Tysons, I thought the replenishment of food items was extremely poor, the selection was extremely poor. I had been looking forward to bringing boyfriend to a Founding Farmers for his birthday for over a year for brunch and it was very disappointing for the reasons stated.
Very good but the brunch is a bit overpriced
The food was amazing, paired will with craft cocktails
We were put in the back room where it seemed all of the tables with children were put. The room itself wasn’t very special, it was very hot, and there was zero ambiance or music. The food and the service were excellent, though!
We had a great dinner at Founding Farmers. The service is exceptional and the food variety & selection is excellent. I had the chicken salad sandwich and homemade chips, my wife the chicken enchiladas. Both meals were fantastic and the serving portions are very generous.
This is a great place to go for a business lunch, date night or a family dinner. One of my favorite Reston restaurants!
Loved everything about it! The food was amazing and the service was outstanding. Going back again in a couple days!
AWWWEESOME! Thank you and we look forward to your return. :) -Amy
This was a missmatch for my group. We had gone to the original FF in DC when it was about the food and distinctively good. Most of the food wasn't bad, just nothing special. Culinary heights were the shrimp and grits, cornbread, and the poke salad. They were all very good. The spicy deviled eggs were the blandest we'd ever experienced. Waiter was well meaning but distracted. Space is very big and dark and very noisy which seems to be a trend. My advice to potential diners is: Don't bother. Eat at Silver Diner and pocket the 40% you'll save on the bill.

Booked a table for 8 for a slow Monday evening. Food was good. The main issue was with the drinks. Every drink took upward of 15 minutes solid. Even Old Fashioned took them more than 20 mins! Apparently one of the bar attenders was off since he had a cut in his finger few days back. Founding Farmers was known for bad Service and I was hoping for a better one this time. Rest of my team was vindicated, they warned me not to go with Founding Farmers. Food was good though.
I am very sorry, SridharS to read that the service and drink delivery really missed the mark this time. :( I understand your disappointment that this happened and I would love the chance to touch base. I will send you a PM. -Amy
The server was nice and tried to be attentive but it took for ever. We were seated around 6:30 but did not get out until after 9 pm. Usually that would not be a problem but we had two kids 3 yo and under. It seemed like the kitchen was having "issues". A table behind us, who were seated after us, were served and out almost an hour before we were out. I'm not looking for fast food but it did take way too long considering we had little kids with us.
Restaurant was pretty empty since it was 4pm on a Sunday afternoon. Took a very very looonnngg
Time to get our food n drinks
Thank you, JOHNNAN for letting us know! Our Management Team reads each review for consideration into what needs to be fixed, and we will definitely look into what we can do to avoid this from happening during future Sunday afternoons. Again, we appreciate it and really-thank you for your kind patience this time! We hope for your soon return and call us at 703-988-7333. -Amy
The buffet is delicious. Service is decent, but I think they need more people on the tables. Maybe more in the kitchen. The Benedict is a myth. I’ve been twice, ordered it twice, and never have seen it.
Have heard about Founding Farmers for years but never tried it! The food was incredible! Will definitely go back!
Between the fun food choices (get the Whirly Pop Kettle Corn appetizer for the table!) and the scratch made drinks (get the passion fruit vanilla soda if it’s in season), you cannot go wrong here. There is something delicious and fresh for everyone. The service and peppy ambience are fantastic too.
The food was delicious and Derek was a fabulous waiter! We really enjoyed our experience!
Perfect as always!!
Thank you, AmyB for sharing your 5-STAR review with us! :) :) :) -Amy
Amazing venue and great food.
Very busy Friday night. Wait staff was friendly but seemed disorganized with a lot of running back and forth when it seems trips might have been consolidated. Food was decent, my husband loved the trout and who wouldn't love that fried chicken! But it all would have been much more delicious if it had been warmer.
Your restaurant is trendy and stylish with good food offered at not terrible prices. Just a little more attention to detail will really enhance this dining experience.
Restonian, thank you for sharing your review with us. I am super sorry for the disorganized service and lukewarm meals you pointed out in your feedback. Our team appreciates that you took the time to let us know & we will look into the improvements needed to better the overall quality experience we aim for based on your suggestions. That said, we are hopeful for your return & please call anytime at 703-988-7333 for reservations or anything our Management Team may assist with in the future. -Amy
Great location with easy parking. Great choices on the menus makes it easy to satisfy diverse tastes. We will be back to sample more of the good stuff & great deserts too
