About Founding Farmers - Montgomery County
MoCo's Founding Farmers is owned by the more than 40,000 family farmers of the NDFU, serving American inspired real food and drink with an emphasis and focus on cooking from scratch.
While our restaurant is supplied by hundreds of family farms everywhere, that doesn’t mean we know every farm, and that doesn’t mean we never have to buy product from the traditional (corporate) supply chain, but it does mean we’re working hard to direct our purchasing dollars where it aligns with our values.
We’re serving the best food we can, made from scratch in our kitchens every day. Our innovative, American dishes are made primarily with pure ingredients honoring the farmers and their hard-earned bounty.
The restaurant is upscale casual, which welcomes business casual dress, and dress that would be appropriate in a nice restaurant; this includes jeans and athletic wear, and warm-weather clothing, including shorts.

Founding Farmers - Montgomery County Ratings and Reviews
A large part of my disappointment stems from my misunderstanding of what I thought I had ordered vs. what came out. I thought I had ordered a dish where it was served in a cast iron skillet with some hashbrowns and scrambled eggs. My misunderstanding stemmed from the dish being called "Pan Scramble", as I had interpreted "Pan" as the cast iron skillet (lol).
Reality then kicks in when I am served with simple ol scrambled eggs w/ham, cheese, and some onions and pan fried hashbrowns. Throw in a dry buttermilk biscuit that was hard as a rock and not flaky at all, and I'm already in a downward spiral.
With my expectations shattered, I couldn't un-focus myself from the fact that this simple dish was priced at $14. On top of this, a cup of fresh brewed coffee costs $4.25. Just to put it into perspective, that's damn near double the price of a Starbucks grande fresh brewed coffee.
I will give props to the server though. He was attentive with refills, requests, and timing of the food.
All in all, Founding Farmer's atmosphere is nice and uniquely designed, but the pricing structure seems a little on the high side for the quality and amount of food received.
Food and Service was great! Exceptional menu which made it hard to choose. Disappointed that even after making notes on the reservation and calling the night before no one wished my girlfriend a happy birthday. They were quick to say “we don’t offer a free dessert but can put a candle in one you buy” but that was not the request. Simply just wanted someone to aknowledge her but no one did.
Will definitely be back but won’t bother trying to surprise someone with something “special”.
The staff was attentive and quite friendly. Service was alright, however, several items ordered were over-looked and had to be requested several times. The food was flavorful. The devil-ish eggs filling was whipped offering light fluffiness, but lacked flavor. Perhaps the seafood version would fare differently. The menu is packed with choices, so one is not stuck with having to settle for the mundane. Yes, I shall go again.
This is our go to local neighborhood restaurant. I’ ll do a quick openntable cyeck to assess how busy the restaurant is as we’re hrading out and place a quick reservation if there are openings in a 15 to 20 minute window do we roll in and get seated promptly. Service is always friendly. The wait staff are always helpful and willing to make dietary substitutions to menu items - switching out carb heavy sides for a salad or other vegetable. My only complaint was the temperature at the seating area on our last visit. A front corner table nearest to the open stair well was a breezy cooler spot - I kept my jacket sling over my shoulders to stay warm. Otherwise, a delightful meal as usual.
Decided to try the Impossible Burger that I've been hearing about, and I must say, it lives up to the hype. Great taste and I feel good after eating it - not sluggish and heavy as after eating a big greasy beef burger. Enjoyed the service. My one small complaint is that when I see the starter of pickled veggies, I was expecting an interesting assortment and instead just got a small bowl of regular sliced pickles. That's not worth the 5 bucks.
I had heard great things about Founding Farmers in DC and had been itching to go, but the traffic and parking in the city leaves a lot to be desired! Needless to say, when I saw the signs of the upcoming restaurant in North Potomac, I was extremely excited. When my friend birthday rolled around, we made it a point to make sure that we wouldn't miss going to FF this year! It met every expectation and exceeded them, from the short wait time (we DID make a reservation), through to the dessert! The food was quite tasty (I ordered the Southern Fried Chicken entree and my friend ordered the Chicken and Waffles). This is the first place I've had collard greens that were as near perfectly seasoned and cooked as mine! The mashed potatoes were exquisite and the fried chicken won me over immediately and is the main reason why I will be returning very soon! The wait staff was very pleasant, knowledgeable, professional and attentive! A wonderful experience all around! Looking forward to returning very soon!
Server was way to busy to take our order. Restaurant was just so packed it was silly. They forgot butter, coffee, all the basics. The popularity has really brought this restaurant down in quality. Used to love it but now it’s just not really worth the bad service and cold food
Excellent food with a variety of creative dishes from the chefs! Unique drinks and entrees. One of the few restaurants in the DC Metro area that carries the Impossible Burger, a vegetarian burger invented by one of the world's top scientists, engineered to appear and taste like real meat.
This was mine and my husvand’s first time dining at Founding Farmers, and we were not disappointed! Everything was fantastic - our waiter, the atmosphere, and the food. We recommend the skillet cornbread and the butternut cake!! Will return soon to try out brunch!
We’re not a weekly regulars, but since it has opened, my husband and I have been there over 20 times. He enjoys it. The food is decent. However not consistent. The wait staff is wonderful. The front of house, has improved. I highly recommend it for brunch, casual dinner or an early breakfast.
We had 10:45 pm reservations for after a show at Kennedy Center. It was awful getting out of the parking lot at KC and we ended up walking in at 10:58 pm. They were gracious & seated us even though I'm sure the kitchen crew were trying to wrap things up. We never felt rushed or pushed to finish our meal. We had the usual great service and wonderful meals enjoyed by all!
